Thursday's Results

Flames 9 Wolfpack 9

The Flames ended a one game losing streak but didn't start a winning streak in a 9-9 tie with the Wolfpack.  The game ended due to the heat required time limit after seven innings.  The Wolfpack tied the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh on a double but a relay from the rightcenterfielder to short fielder to catcher to third base ended the game preventing the winning run getting to third.  The Flames had their usual strong offensive start with 8 runs in the first three innings but then their offense cooled off (despite the heat).  Gene Corrado had the Flames first homerun of the season among his two hits.  Derek Foster and Frank Glauser both had three hits.  Kevin Grevera, Lee Jaslow, Norm Derry, and Tom Cosgrove each had two hits.  Gene Harris and Norm Derry both contributed with doubles.

The Wolfpack and Flames fought each other to the very end when time ran out with a score of 9-9. Each team scored 3 runs in the first inning and the flames scored an additional 5 runs between the 2nd and 3rd innings but the Pack clawed back with 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning making the score 8-7. Flames pushed over an additional run in the 5th inning. Neither team scored in the 6th inning setting the stage for heroics for the Pack in the bottom of the 7th Flames....Tracey Zimmerman, with an injured hand singled, Keith Klasic hit a clutch single and "Ole Reliable of Alabama" Bob Gaines doubled both runners home to tie the score at 9-9....time then ran out with hot hitting Dick Tosti on Deck but no ability to go to extra innings.

The Pack gave it everything it had at the plate with key hits by Tracey Zimmerman, Dick Tosti(2 hits) a big Sac fly RBI by Jack Galloway, timely hitting Howard Borochaner (2 hits) , Butch Bodenheimer, Jim Stabene, Wayne Heaton ( who also pitched a great game). The Wolfpack played excellent defense to hold down the hard hitting flames Between innings 4 thru 7.....one of the highlights of the game was Ron Mangini ( playing the ghost of Billy Martin) kicking infield dirt at Flames manager Tom Cosgrove during a 4th inning argument...It was a great game all around

Starr 5 Eagles 2

Score for today's Starr vs Eagles.  A very hot day to start and Starr put up 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd for a 2 to 0 lead which held for half inning as the Eagles came back with 2 in top of the fourth for a 2 to 2 tie game. In the bottom of the 5th Starr scored a run to take a 3 to 2 lead, and Starr scored 2 in the bottom of the 6th for a 5 to 2 lead which was the final score. Outstanding defense by Starr squashed any chance for the Eagles to score more runs. They had bases loaded and no outs and an unbelievable play by Ron Fein, catching a hard line drive and turning it into a double play which led to 0 runs scored. A tremendous defensive play by Spencer Synderman and Hal Katz helped to stop any threat  by the Eagles. Terry Abrams turned in a flawless game with 9 assists playing third base. Bill Schwartz turned in another gem and did not walk any batters today. The Eagles and Starr  played great defense today and played all 7 innings under an hour. Starting with a 1 and 1 count was great for the league and the gear today.  Offensively for Starr  was Spencer Synderman who went 2 for 2 and 1 RBI. Getting 2 hits were Terry Klein, Ron Fein.   Chipping in with 1 hit and 2 RBI'S was Larry Levin, Jack Donohue, Hal Katz, Bill Schwartz, Terri Abrams, Harris Braunstein, Vince Burkett and Jay Passman

The Eagles offense could only score 2 runs and fell to Starr 5 to 2. The team defense played well and the pitching by Barry Windsor was very good but the offense only had 12 hits and we also hit into 3 double plays. Greg Peters had a well hit double that drove in the 2 runs. The eagles had 4 players with 2 hits including Ted henritzy. Barry Windsor, Dale Cassidy, and Judy Agasar.

Devils 13 Wildcats 10

Even playing with only 10 guys, the Devils started off with 4 in the first and never looked back….Devils are on a roll.
The Devils offense was a total team effort with Dave Bushar 4-5, Kevin Culp 4-5 pitching another great game, Tom Reither 3-4, Ken Reiss 4-5, Gene Reeber 4-5, Jerry Barlow 3-4, Dave Frayne 2-3

The Game wasn’t as Close as the Final Score as “SATAN REEBERS” Devils Jumped out to a 7-1 Lead after 3-1/2 Innings but the Wildcats clawed their way back by Scoring 9 Runs in the last 4 Innings the only problem is that the Devils were able to put up 5 more runs of their Own!!! The Devils played “EXCELLENT DEFENSE” led by Tom Reither who like CHICKENMAN” was EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE!!! The Wildcats Scored 4 in the Bottom of the 7th and were coming to the Top of the Order but a Wildcat Runner was trying to go 1st to 3rd on a hit to the outfield but the ball was thrown to Jerry Barlow who was able to get a Hold of the Ball for the final out of the Game!!! The Wildcats offense was led by Bim Bradford and Gene Rubin both 3 for 3, George Groves, Tom Delaney, and Bill Krieger were all 2 for 3!!!
Congratulations to Reeber's Devils who played a man SHORT and You wouldn’t have known it because they played a great game offensively and defensively!!!

Blue Jays 5 Panthers 4

The Blue Jays fell behind early as the Panthers jumped ahead 4 to 0 with a run in the first inning and then 3 more in the second.  The blue "D" tightened up and kept the big cats off the board for the remainder of the game.  The Jays offense only generated 1 hit until things got going in the fourth inning and 10 hits overall.  The fourth started with singles by Jim Klemick and Fred Weiner. Scott Comer followed that with  a 2 RBI triple to get the birds on the scoreboard.  Bob Dolan followed Scott's triple with a double to draw the birds within 1 run of the Panthers.  The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh.  Del Kates started the inning with a single that was followed by a triple from Fred Weiner, tying the game.  Scott Comer once again came through with a single to drive Fred home with the walk off winning run.  After a rocky start the entire Jays team settled down to play great defense.  Tom Sikora turned a perfect double play and Jim Klemick filled in admirably at shortstop for 5 innings.  Del Kates, Fred Weiner (triple, RBI) and Scott Comer (triple 3 RBIs) all had 2 hits.

The Panthers dropped a very close game to the Blue Jays by a score of 5-4.  The Panthers held the lead until the bottom of the 7th inning when the Jays put up 2 runs to win a very fast game.  The Panther bats were anemic managing a mere 8 hits over 7 innings.  Mike Aversa had the only extra base hit with a double.  All other hits were onesies spread across the lineup.  It was a tough day.
