Devils 10 Wolfpack 7

The Devils win again with a 10-7 victory over the Wolfpack. Jim, you can add stuff.

How is this?  The Devils are so hot that they had to go down to hell to cool off.  After a slow start in the first half of the season the Devils have rattled off 5 consecutive wins.  They weren't able to score 25 runs like they did on Tuesday, but when you score more than you give up, it ends up being a pretty good day.

The offense was led by Dave Bushar who went 4 for 4.  Adding to the offense by going 2 for 3 were Tom Reither, Ken Riess, Gene Reeber, Jerry Barlow, Frank Froio and Dave Frayne.

The Devil D ended the game by turning a triple play.  With bases loaded and no outs, Wayne Heaton hit a ground ball to Dave Simone at third base.  Dave stepped on third and threw home to Dave Frayne for a force at home.  A double Dave double play, but wait there's more.  The runner from first tried to get to third base and was thrown out.    What just happened?  Triple play.   Game over.

The Devils continue to have the number on the Wolfpack but as a person who has played and been around baseball my entire life, I have never witnessed a more bizarre ending as I did in this game. The Devils were given a comfortable 9-1 lead by the bottom of the fourth inning. Poor fielding in both infield and outfield, plus too many bad judgements on the base paths put the Wolfpack in a deep hole. On the positive side the Wolfpack offense woke up with Dick Tosti, Phil Angiolini, Keith Klasic, Curtis Bragg, Ron Mangini, Wayne Heaton and Jack Galloway each having 2 hits, Bob Gaines, Jim Stabene, Howard Borochaner and Augie Rosenblatt each chipped in with one hit each. In the top of the Fifth inning the Pack put a 5 run spot on the board putting themselves back in the game at 10-6......neither team scored in the sixth inning so the game entered "The Twilight Zone" in the top of the seventh....the Wolfpack loaded the bases on three consecutive hits.....scoring one run making it 10-7 still no outs.....a routine ground ball was hit to the Devil third baseman who stepped on third base and then threw to home before the Wolfpack runner could reach home plate causing the second out, but then the Wolfpack runner from First base tried to make it to third base was was thrown out to complete a TRIPLE PLAY!!!! I cannot make this up.
Devils 10 Wolfpack 7.......I immediately drove to the nearest watering hole for a stiff drink!

Starr 12 Classics 7

The Classics scored 1 in the top of the 1st to take a short lived 1 to 0 lead. Starr came back with 2 in the first and the Classics tied the score in the top of the 2nd. Then Starr went on a scoring feast with 1 in the third and 5 in the fourth to take a 9 to 2 lead. The Classics came back in the 5th with 4 to close the gap to 9 to 6. The starrs scored 3 more for a final of 12 to 7.  Both teams played sloppy ball as the Starr team  tightened up in the last 2 innings to hold the Classics  to 1 run in the last 2 innings. There were great plays turned in by Hal Katz of the Starr team and a great catch by Ron Cohen of the Classics. Offensive stars were Hal Katz going 3 for 3 with 4 rbi's,Terry Klein 4 for 4, and Larry Levin going 3 for 3 with 4 runs scored and 2 rbi's. Chipping in with 2 hits was Ron Fein. One hit by Jack Donohue, Terry Abrams, SPENCER SYNDERMAN, Bill Schwartz, Vince Burkett, Jay Passman, and Harris Braunstein.  Harris Braunstein currently has a 5 game hitting which ties his 66 year record which he did once before in the handicap league.  Great team win and everybody contributed today. Starr played a class team led by Eric Gottlieb.

The Classics did their best missing key players. The game was tied into the fourth inning but Starr had a big inning in the fifth scoring five runs. The Classics could not catch up, losing 12-7.

John Brieg filled in pitching and did a great job. Also, Ron Cohen and Tony Baccari played with injuries and had a good game.

Flames 12 Eagles 4

The Flames were blazing on both sides of the ball in a 12-4 win over the Eagles.  The Flames started quickly with two runs in the top of the first inning and then opened up a 2-1 game with five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.  The offense was led by John Salmon, Kevin Grevera, and Gene Corrado pounding three hits each.  Derek Foster and Frank Glauser had two hits.  Additionally Carl Weigand and Lee Jaslow both doubled.  The defense turned three double plays to back another strong pitching performance from Norm Derry.  One doubleplay came with the bases loaded where Frank Glauser snared a grounder tagged third and threw home to catcher John Salmon for the second out.  Gene Harris was the middleman on the other two, turning the quick pivot both times.

The eagles started slow and kept it that way throughout the game as they fell to the flames 12 to 4. The Eagles never led in the game and the flames scored 5 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to put the game away.   Pascal Houcke went 3 for 3 with a double and Barry Winsor went 2 for 2 with a walk but it was not enough as the Eagles also hit into 3 double plays as the flames played good defense.

Panthers 12 Wildcats 2

The Panthers played a good game yesterday to grab a win over the Wildcats by a score of 12-2.  Mike Segal pitched only his second game of the season and did a great job allowing only a few walks. The Panthers defense was tight for 7 full innings allowing only two 1 run innings.  The Panthers bats were hot with the team going 15-40.  Joe Grines led the team by going 4-5.  Craig Wright went 2-4 with a triple while John Mack, Howard Wible, and Rich Waloff also went 2-4.  Terry Gallagher added a double and went 1-4 in the game.

Well the Wildcats Played another Game where the only Bright Spot was a Player going 3 for 3 with 3 Singles that Player was Franklin Smith!!  The Wildcats had a Total of 10 hits all Singles 7 other Players had 1 Hit each, at least it was an IMPROVEMENT over their last game where they only had 4 Singles, the Panthers turned at least two Double Plays and pretty much played a mistake free game. The Panthers didn’t have their pitcher so Mike Segal took the ball as the starting pitcher today and did an “EXCELLENT JOB” in holding the Wildcats to 10 singles and only 2 runs  Our hats Off to the Panthers for a well played game, Final Score Panthers-12 Wildcats-2
