Thursday's Results

Wolfpack 13 Panthers 6

The Wolfpack clawed the Panthers for a victory 13-6. The Pack scored 3 in the bottom of the first and never looked back. The big bats of Phil Angiolini, Bob Gaines, Dick Tosti and Keith Klasic combined for the 3 spot. The Panthers answered back with 2 in the third inning but the Wolfpack solidified its defense with Bob Gaines making two key catches in left field of two hard hit balls which saved at least 5 runs in the game. The bats came alive for the Pack scoring another 3 runs in the bottom of the third and in the fifth frame, Wayne Heaton (2 hits) started a rally singling to left, followed by another hit by Tracey Zimmerman and a double down the third base line by Ron Mangini. Phil Angiolini (3 hits) slashed his 5th home run of the season, only to then be followed by another home run this time to right by Bob Gaines for a 5 spot in the inning. Dick Tosti ( 3 hits) and Keith Klasic (2 hits) continued their hot batting. Dick Tosti has only made one out in the last three games......Jack Galloway, Curtis Bragg and Howard Borochaner each had 1 hit. Each time the Panthers tried to rally, great defensive plays shut them down......it was another great team effort by the Wolfpack.

The short-handed Panthers dropped a game to the Wolfpack by a score of 13-6.  Ten defensive players were not enough to stop balls from getting through the gaps for the Wolfpack and that combined with potent hitting was too much to overcome.  Defensively John Rozolis played great at shortstop and made a spectacular diving catch of a hot line drive.  Mike Segal did a great job pitching, allowing very few walks.  Mike has been pitching the last four or five games.  He is not normally a pitcher which  makes his performance all the more remarkable. The Panthers put up 15 hits but scored only 5 runs.  Joe Grines and Craig Wright both went 3-4.  John Rozolis went 2-4 with a triple.  Ed Occhi and Bill Matlack also went 2-4 in the game.

Flames 8 Classics 3

The Flames snuffed out the Classics 8 to 3 with Norm Derry pitching a great game only allowing single runs in the first, fourth, and sixth innings.  The Flames defense was solid throughout the game highlighted by an inning ending double play in the sixth inning going from right center fielder Kevin Grevera (catch) to shortstop Tom Cosgrove to catcher John Salmon thwarting a Classics' rally.  Eleven Flames contributed hits with three hits from Tom Cosgrove, Kevin Grevera, and Ken Radon.  Gene Corrado, Norm Derry, Ron Tuminski, and John Salmon all had two hits with doubles by Gene and Ron.  Ken Radon once again had the highest percentage of RBI's at 25%.  Kevin Grevera, Gene Corrado, Gene Harris, Howard Barman, John Salmon, and Lee Jaslow each had only half of Ken's percentage of RBI's.

Tom Boyle pitched a good game but the mental errors and some mixed in fielding errors made for a bad day for the Classics losing 8-3.

Eagles 10 Devils 7

The Eagles got an early jump on the Devils by scoring in the first innings and holding the Devil's scoreless for a 6 to 0 lead after 3 innings. The Devils then came alive starting in the fourth inning scoring 2 runs, however the Eagles scored 4 runs in the fourth. The Devils struck back in the sixth inning scoring 5 to make the game close going into the seventh, but the Eagles held them scoreless and they came away with a win by the score of 10 to 7.   The Eagles were led by Judy Agasar who went 3 for 3 including a solid double to left field.  She has informed me that she is now working on a great post game workout. I noticed that she had a great big smile on her face today and  I know her post game program is very fulfilling for her. Ed Brandriff also went 3 for 3 including a double and Bill Howland also went 3 for 3… Ted Henritzy, Bob Esterly and Greg Peters each had 2 hits but Greg hit a solid triple to center field. Barry Windsor pitched a great game as Kevin Culp did for the Devils.

Devils started off slow again, down 10-2, rallied 5 runs in the sixth, but fell short again. 10-7 final.  Kudos to Tom Reither hitting a triple to score 2 runs in the 6th.

Wildcats 14 Blue Jays 10

The Wildcats kept the Blue Jays off the Board in the 1st Inning then came to bat and put up 5 Runs to take the Lead. The Blue Jays answered in the Top of the 3rd with 5 Runs of their own to tie the Game at 5!!! The Wildcats came to bat in the Bottom of the 3rd and answered with 5 Runs of their own to go ahead 10-5 !! After a scoreless 4th inning the Blue Jays came to Bat in the Top of the 5th and went on to Score another 5 Runs Knotting the Game at 10-10 and that would be the end of the Scoring for the Blue Jays fortunately the Wildcats were able to Score 4 more Runs in the Bottom of the 6th for a Final Score of 14-10
Leading the Wildcats were George Groves, Franklin Smith and Larry Restivo all going 3 for 3 and each Scoring 3 Runs!!! Bob Silvester and Tom Boyce were both 3 for 3 Charlie Whitaker was 2 for 3 Scoring 2 runs, Bim Bradford was 2 for 3 and Monroe Weingarten chipped in going 2 for 2 !!!
“OUR HATS OFF”To the Blue Jays who never gave up coming back from Two 5 Run DEFICITS !!!

The Blue Jays are blue after dropping their third straight game this time losing to the Wildcats by a score of 14 to 10.  The Jays won games early in the season by getting ahead early and playing strong defense.  Lately the birds have started poorly giving up a combine 14 runs in the first inning in their last 3 games. They were then forced to play catch up and came up short in all three games.  The birds posted two five-run innings with hits coming from Tom Sikora (1 for 3), Warren Fuchs (2 for 3), Jim Swiderski (3 for 3) and Bob Doernberg (1 for 3).  After that the top of the order was able to drive them home with Jim Klemick (2 for 3), Del Kates (2 for 3), Jack McNulty  (double, triple), Fred Weiner (2 for 3), Scott Comer (3 for 3) and Bob Dolan (2 for 3) all contributing hits.  After matching the Wildcats 5 run innings twice the birds defense was unable to contain the top of the cats order as they struck late for another 4.  The Wildcats hit well and capitalized on every scoring opportunity that they had.
