Flames 11 Wolfpack 7
The Flames defeated the Wolfpack 11 to 7 overcoming the absence of power hitting clean-up hitter Gene Corrado and second baseman Lee Jaslow generating runs with only a barrage of singles all game. Gene Harris, Aaron Sacharov, and Norm Derry led the way with three hits each. Derek Foster, Tom Cosgrove, Kevin Grevera, Frank Glauser, and Carl Weigand each contributed two hits. After allowing three runs in the top of the first inning, Norm Derry held the powerful hitting Wolfpack to only four more runs over the last six innings. The Flames defense played a clean game with solid defensive plays from Gene Harris, Derek Foster, Frank Glauser, and Kevin Grevera. For those of you tracking Ken Radon's percentage of RBI's, his percentage dropped precipitously to 9% for this game.
It is difficult to beat a good team like the Flames with 13 hits but 11 errors.....that is what occurred in today's game. The Wolfpack jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first but gave the Flames 5 runs in the bottom. The Flames then hammered away at the Wolfpack defense almost every inning. The Wolfpack tried to mount a comeback with good hitting from Dick Tosti, Phil D'Angiolini, Keith Klasic and Howard Borochaner but could not seem to move enough runners to home plate. Final score Flames 11, Wolfpack 7.
Starr 19 Eagles 6
The Eagles took a 1 to 0 lead in the first inning aided by 3 errors by Starr's defense. Starr struck back with 4 runs in the top of the 2nd for a 4 to 1 lead. Again in the bottom of the 2nd the Eagles scored 2 runs on another 3 errors by Starr to close the gap 4 to 3. At this point Starr's bats Came alive to tack on 15 more runs for a final of 19 to 9. Starr's defense, after the 2nd inning, was flawless as 2 bases loaded and no outs ended in 2 great plays by Terry Abrams making 2 great catches and getting double plays on a force at 3rd and throwing out the runners going home. Offensively Starr was led by Ron Fein going 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored and 4 rbi's. Jack Donohue going 4 for 4. Chipping in with 2 hits were Terry Klein, Hal Katz, Lee Bullman with 4 rbi's, Bill Schwartz, and Jay Passman. Terry Abrams was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI's, Spencer Synderman 3 hits and Larry Levin with 3 hits. Alan Massey and Harris Braunstein each added 1 hit.
Eagles playing the 1st place Starr, needed to bring their “A” game today to get a win. Unfortunately the Eagles brought their ‘C” minus game and that grade might be on a curve. Eagles hit into 3 double plays which has been an issue all year. We also had 2 runners forced out on the bases on what should have been base hits to the outfield. Add to that numerous misplays in the field and you get a 19-9 shellacking at the hands of Starr. Ted Henitzy and Andy Cohen each had 3 hits for the Eagles. Bill Howland, Barry Windsor and Dale Cassiy each had 2 hits.
Devils 14 Wildcats 5
The Devils started off with 5 runs in the first and never looked back. With great defense, and great hitting, the Devils won today 14-5. Kevin Culp, Wayne Haller, Dave Simone, and Tom Reither all went 3-4 with Tom hitting an in the park home run. Jerry Barlow, Bill Russell, and Steve Weiss all went 2-3
The Devils 😈 Hit their way to a 14-5 Victory over the Wildcats. In their Previous 4 Games the Wildcats had six 5 Run Innings but today the Devils Played “EXCELLENT DEFENSE” the “ENTIRE GAME” the Highlights for the Wildcats were Dave Noa going 3 for 3 with 3 Singles!! The only other Highlight was Charlie Whitaker giving out the “PRETZELS” after the Game!!! In My Opinion the “PRETZELS” taste a “HELL OF A LOT BETTER AFTER A WIN”
Blue Jays 11 Panthers 2
The Blue Jays took advantage of an injury riddled Panthers team to break their 3 game losing streak. The Jays played strong defensively with Tom Sikora doing a good job securing the middle of the field. The birds jumped out early with a 5 run first inning and never looked back en route to a 11 to 2 victory. Fred Weiner led the Jays offense going 2 for 2 with a double, a walk and 2 RBI's. Also with 2 hits were Jim Klemick, Jack McNulty (double), Bob Dolan, Jim O'Brien (2 doubles, 3 RBI's), Jeff Blank (double) and Jim Swiderski.
A depleted Panthers team got pecked by an offensively strong Blue Jays team by a score of 11-2. The Blue Jays started strong with a 5 run first inning and never looked back. The Panthers had few bright spots in the game as their bats also went silent. Howard Wible was the only multi-hit player of the game for the Panthers, going 2-3. One continuing positive for the team is the pitching by Mike Segal, who has done a great job of filling in for an injured Ed Betancourt.
