2024 Tournament Day 3 results

Wolfpack 9 Panthers 5

For the second round of the Playoffs the Wolfpack pounced on the Panthers in the initial three innings building a score of 9-0 at the end of three innings. The big bats of Tosti, Angiolini, Gaines and Klasic all exploded in the first along with a booming triple by Curtis Bragg. Each time the Panthers tried to mount a strong rally, Wayne Heatons pitching and a stubborn defense shut them down. The Pack's outfield defense was especially strong catching every long ball hit by the Panthers. A great play was made by Butch Bodenheimer behind the plate with two Panthers on base and one of their best hitters at bat....Butch snared a foul pop up for the third out to kill a rally. The Wolfpack offense was well rounded as Dick Tosti, Phil Angiolini, Bob Gaines, Keith Klasic each had a 2 hit game, while Ron Mangini, Curtis Bragg, Wayne Heaton and Butch Bodenheimer all chipped in with 1 hit.
It was a well played team victory by the score of 9-5 for the Wolfpack who is hungry to move on in the Playoffs.

The Panthers dropped their last game of the season to the Wolfpack by a score of 9-5.  The Wolfpack's hitting was just too much to overcome while the Panther bats were quiet.  The Panthers played good defense by holding the Wolfpack scoreless for 4 innings but the Wolfpack exploded for 4 runs in the first inning and 3 runs in the third, which proved to be more than enough,  The Panthers bunched 3 of their 5 hits in the 4th inning to score 3 runs.   Offensively, only Steve Belenko had multiple hits going 2-3.

Flames 6 Wildcats 5

The Flames squeaked by the Wildcats 6-5 in a closely fought well-played game.  Derek Foster filled in at pitcher for the hobbled Norm Derry (relegated to DH only) and also turned a line drive into a double play defensively with a quick throw to first.  The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Flames retaliated with three runs in the bottom of the inning on consecutive two out hits from Kevin Grevera, Frank Glauser, Tom Cosgrove, Carl Wiegand, and Norm Derry.  The Wildcats reclaimed the lead with two more runs in the top of the second.  The Flames tied it with key hits from Ken Radon and John Salmon and aggressive baserunning from Gene Corrado.  After the Wildcats took the lead again, the Flames tied it with hits from Ken Radon and Aaron Sacharov with Aaron's aggressive baserunning resulting in a run.  The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when Gene Corrado singled and Tom Cosgrove tripled him home. The Wildcats left the tying run on first base in the top of the seventh when the game ended.  The Flames offense was led by Tom Cosgrove with three hits including a triple and double.  Ken Radon and Gene Corrado had two hits. John Salmon's lone hit was a double or a triple (we're still waiting for the official scorer decision).  Lee Jaslow, Ken Radon, Frank Glauser, Gene Corrado, and John Salmon all made strong defensive plays keeping the game close.  Tom Cosgrove threw a runner out at the plate to John Salmon to atone for his error that allowed the runner to get on base at the start of the inning.  Gene Harris played his usual strong game at shortfielder and Ron Tuminski played solid right centerfield for the Flames.  It was a great team win.

Well the Wildcats Season Ended with Two 1 Run Losses in the Double Elimination Tournament !!! The Wildcats actually Started Playing like a Team ( Better Late than Never ) Three of their Last Four Games were Decided by 1 Run, they had one Win and Two Losses !! We won’t mention the Fourth Game I would just like to thank all the Guys on the Wildcats for Playing together and not Pointing Fingers at each other this one !!! not this one !!!
In today’s Game We could only come through with 13 Hits ( won’t win many games like that)
Ten of the Fourteen Batters had Hits today led By Bob Silvester going 2 for 2 with a Walk and a Run Scored. One of His Hits was a DOUBLE to leftfield, George Groves and Tom Boyce also had 2 Hits in 3 at Bats The Flames played Excellent Defense and turned one Double Play they actually thought they had a second Double Play to end the Game but the Fleet Footed Tom Delaney was Safe at First the Flames must have been under the Assumption that Andy gets Paid to call outs what they didn’t Realize is that Tom paid Him to make the Safe Call so instead of One I’ll give them Credit for 2 Double Plays because if I was on their Team I would have lost it on that call.  I want to give credit to the Flames and their Manager Tom Cosgrove on a Well Played Game !!!
Also I want to Point out the Vulgar Language out of Gene Harris and Carl. I had to remind them that they shouldn’t be using that kind of Language !!! That I’m the only one that Talks like that I just want to thank all of My Teammates for a FUN SEASON !!!

Starr 8 Eagles 7

The Eagles played the top team Starr and could not pull off a win and lost 8 to 7 in a very competitive and entertaining game. The Eagles scored 3 in the first inning but Starr came back and scored 4 to start the game. Starr then scored 3 in the third inning while keeping the eagles scoreless until the sixth inning when the eagles scored 4 to tie the game. The Eagles kept Starr scoreless from the third inning but couldn't do it in the seventh inning as Starr pulled out the win by scoring a run to end the game. Congratulations to Starr for a well played game.  The Eagles were led by Ed Brandriff who went 3 for 3 including a double, the eagles had 4 players with 2 hits including Mike Kroeger including a double, Barry Windsor, Greg Peters including a double,  and Andy Cohen including a double. Judy Agasar, John Walsh, Mike Kroeger and Greg Peters all had nice catches to keep the game close but Starr proved to be too much for the eagles.

Blue Jays 6 Devils 2

The Blue Jays scored a run in both the second and fourth innings to lead the Devils 2 - 0 after 4 innings.  In the 5th inning the middle and bottom of the Blue Jays batting order struck for 4 more runs on big two out hits by Tom Sikora, Mark Jerden, Jim Sadowski and Warren Fuchs.  The Devils rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh but the Jays were able to stop the rally to earn a 6 to 2 win.

The Jays played outstanding defense, but then again so did the Devils.  Del Kates did an outstanding job at third base and Jim O'Brien caught everything hit up the middle.  Tom Sikora, Jim Klemick, Jeff Blank and Mark Jerden all made good plays in the infield. Jack McNulty played an excellent shortstop.  Outfielders Bob Dolan, Fred Weiner and Scott Comer all had putouts.  One of Fred's catches was a shoestring catch, charging in, that he converted into a double play to end a potential Devil rally.

Jim Klemick, Fred Weiner, Scott Comer, and Bob Dolan (double) led the birds offense with 2 hits each.  Both teams played extremely well in what was an outstanding game.
