The Blues Brothers led by Jake and Elwood completely destroyed the Starr team. After Starr scored 2 in the 1st Starr's bat went silent, and the Blues Brothers scored 13 unanswered runs for a 13 to 2 win. Great pitching by Wayne Heaton and a great defense ended Starr's mini winning streak. Offensively for Starr, John Rozolis had 3 hits , followed by Terry Klein and Jay Passman had 2 hits. Congratulations.

( Tom needed Directions because He usually doesn’t Run that Far )the Wolfpack would add a Run in the Top of the Sixth Inning and that was all the Scoring in the Game for the 8-3 Final Score if anyone was keeping Track Papa John, Kevin Oliver, Bill Jones were a combined 8 for 11 with 6 Runs Scored
Our Hats off to the Wolfpack who Played the Game without Pete Williamson who is their Starting Leftfielder and a BIG BAT in their LINEUP !!!
Sent from my iPhone
Want to start by thanking Tom Boyle for stepping in to pitch for us today.....he pitched great but did not receive any support from his defense nor his offense. The Wolfpack showed up but not their fielding, hitting nor baserunning.....we were all focused on the wonderful Pizza Party hosted by Ken Radon after today's game. The Pack did bang out 2 runs in the first inning but just as quickly the Wildcats responded to knot the game. The Wildcats then Exploded with key doubles and a home run and before you know it the score was 8-2.....The Wolfpack tried to mount a rally each inning but in two of the innings the rally was stalled with poor base running. The Wildcats simply outplayed the Pack today for a 8-3 victory......on the Wolfpack offense,
Dave Noa had 2 hits, as did Phil D'Angiolini while Steve Belenko and Ron Mangini each served up 3 hits each, with Mark Azzaro chipping in 1 hit. It was a tough loss but the pizza, beverages and desserts were fabulous!!!!
Classics 13 Devils 10
The Classics came out hitting today 4 runs in the first inning, 3 runs in third, 3 runs in the forth, 2 runs in the sixth and 1 in the seventh. Kevin Culp filled in as our starting pitcher and did an outstanding job leading the Classics to a 13-10 victory.
Whatever they eat for breakfast do it again with outstanding hitting by Eric Suber 4 hits, 4 hits from Frank Verano and 4 hits from Jack McNulty we now call the hits McNulty bombs with 1 home run on field 5 hitting the scoreboard in left field, a second over the fence counted as a double, a 3B and 2B what a day. Adding to the hitting attack is Al Moffa 3 hits, Georg Groves, Dave Simone, Mark Jerdan, and John Breig each with 2 hits.
Well, the Devils had a hard time today making outs….singles to triples doesn’t fly…
Lost again 13-10.Came back in the seventh inning but not enough
Injuries to Derek Foster and Gene Reeber put a damper on the game….
Gene collided with Jack McNulty around 2nd base and both went down. Gene has to get an mri tomorrow. He can’t lift his throwing arm up and will be out for who knows how long ... .Jack kept on playing the next inning and was ok.
Positives for the game were Ray Morris going 4-4, while Jeff Hooker, Wayne Haller, Tom Jakubowski, and John Salmon went 2-3. Roy Barlow went 2-4…
Panthers 11 Eagles 7
A very competitive game with the Panthers prevailing 11 to 7. Game was tied in the top of 5th with Eagles scoring 4 runs to make it 7 to 7. The Panthers scored 4 runs bottom of the 5th to take an 11 to 7 lead which was the final score.
Standout stars were Ed Occhi pitching a strong game. Very good play continued with many outstanding plays with Mike Kroger and filtering throughout the team with an unassisted double play by Dale Cassidy. Mike Aversa filled in at 1st base and played well. Craig Neiderpreum had a few good plays along with Andy Markowitz, not to be left out Augie Rosenblatt and Ron Tuminski all with timely catches and hits. All in all, there were 20 hits. Mike Kroger and Bob Dougherty each having 3 a piece, they both had 3 and 2 rbi's apiece. Dale Cassidy, Ken Riess(3 rbi's), Ron Tuminski, Craig Niederpreum each having 2 hits apiece. Not to be left out were timely hits by Ed Occhi, Jim Swiderski, and Doug Rutter.
Flames 15 Blue Jays 14
The Flames bats were hot which was needed as their gloves were cold in a 15-14 win over the Blue Jays. Both teams had leads, caught up, and fell behind throughout the game. The game was tied at thirteen going into the seventh inning. Bill Russell walked and Lee Jaslow singled, turning over the batting order and sparking a two-run rally. The Blue Jays stormed back with one quick run and had two runners on base with two outs when Russ Dorrycott raced in to snare a flyball to left field to end the game. Lee Jaslow made the Flames only other good defensive play, grabbing a rocket line drive in the early innings. John Mack and Bob Gaines led the offense with four hits each. Jim Stabene, Russ Dorrycott, and Jerry Gross had three hits. Kevin Culp, Craig Wright, Jack Galloway, and Lee Jaslow contributed two hits.
The Blue Jays faced off with the Flames in what was either a high powered offensive game or a low powered defensive effort. The Flames demonstrated good hitting from top to bottom of their batting order. The Jays responded with strong hitting going toe to toe with the league leaders. The Jays offense was led by Dick Tosti (4 for 4, 4 runs scored) and Jeff Blank (4 for 4 with 3 runs scored). Jim O'Brien and Rich Pich were both 3 for 4 with 4RBIs. Ken Mealey chipped in with 3 hits. Tony Baccari was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Bill Matlack chipped in with 2 hits and thanks go out to subs John Breig (2 hits) and Paul Stesko (3 hits) who chipped in to help with the blue offense and defense.
The work on the lights has been completed and certified.
Ken Radon has started a tradition of creating an original piece of art and presenting it to his manager at the end of each season. Despite the fact that Ken groused about Ron all season (at least that's what I heard) he was still gentlemanly enough to dedicate the time needed to create and present Ron with this masterpiece.

Game Reports For 9/9/2025
Starr 12 Panthers 7
The game started out with the Panthers scoring 1 run for a brief 1 to 0 lead. Starr answered back with 4 in the first and 3 in the second for a commanding lead of 7 to 1. The Panthers scored 1 in the 3rd and 2 in 5th and 3 in the 6th to cut into Starr's lead. At this point Starr led 8 to 7. Starr then scored 4 unanswered runs in the bottom of the 6th for a 12 to 7 final. Starr played with 10 players as 56 players were hurt or not available. Offensively for Starr, Spencer Synderman was a perfect 2 for 2 with 2 walks and 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Ron Fein had 3 hits and 3 runs scored and Jay Passman had 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Alan Massey had 2 hits and 3 RBIs, John Rozolis had 2 hits and 3 runs scored, Terry Abrams had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. One hit for Terry Klein, Dave Detweiler, and Harris Braunstein. Wanted to thank Tom Delaney for filling in for Bill Schwartz and pitched a great game.
Apparently the Panthers were star gazing. They gave up 4 runs in the 1st inning and 4 more in the 6th inning.
Hitters for the day were:
Ed Occhi. 4 for 4
Bob Dougherty. 3 for 4
Craig Niederpruem 3 for 3
Jim Swiderski. 2 for 3
Ken Riess. and Ron Tuminski. were 2 for 4
Dale Cassidy, Augi Rosenblat and Doug Rutter all had one hit.
Flames 9 Eagles 8
The Flames and Eagles battled fiercely in an eight inning game won by the Flames 9 to 8. The Flames came back from a 6-3 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and the tying run in the bottom of the seventh. The Eagles pushed across their ghost runner and one more in the top of the eighth but the Flames plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth for the win. In the eighth, Jerry Gross was the ghost runner, Lee Jaslow hit an infield single. Tom Cosgrove lined a single to right field scoring one run. Kevin Culp walked and the game was won on consecutive singles by Bob Gaines and Russ Dorrycott scoring courtesy runner Craig Wright and then Cosgrove. Bob Gaines led the offense with three hits and three RBI's. Lee Jaslow, John Mack, Russ Dorrycott, and Tom Cosgrove all had two hits.
Wolfpack 4 Devils 3
The Wolfpack has now played in three consecutive games decided by one run. As in the others this game was a hard fought pitching duel right to the last inning. The Devils jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and held the Pack scoreless in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second Pete Williamson led off with a double followed by hard hit singles by Ron Mangini and Steve Belenko. Up to the plate stepped Pascal Houcke, who has been the hottest hitter in the Pack lineup and quickly lined a pitch up the right center gap for a Home Run, clearing the bases. The Pack ended the inning with a 4-1 score. The game then became a defensive battle with great plays on both sides. (The Wolfpack executed 3 Double Plays in the game). The Devils did not go quietly scoring single runs in the 6th and 7th making it a 4-3 game. Kevin Culp, who graciously agreed to pitch for the Wolfpack due to the loss of Ron Miller, did a fabulous job of limiting any big hits to allow the Pack to win a close one 4-3. Dave Noa, batting in the leadoff position had 3 hits and again played great defense at mid field. John Walsh lined a single in the third inning but was erased by a well executed Double Play by the Devils. Phil Angiolini had a long double, and Pascal Houcke added another single for his second hit of the game. It was another squeaker but the Pack held on for the win.
Devils played great defense today but could not score enough runs to win with a 4-3 loss today.
Tried mixing up the line up to no avail.
Will keep trying….
Derek Foster and Roy Barlow went 2-3, while Gene Reeber went 2-2..
Better luck this Thursday
Wildcats 14 Classics 5
In what may have been the Wildcats best Game of the Season where they had 21 Hits and Scored 14 Runs and actually Played Good Defense for a CHANGE they were able to Outplay the Classics by the Score of 14-5
The Wildcats were able to Score Runs in each of the First Four Innings to take a 12-1 Lead. The Classics put 4 more runs on the Board in the Bottom of the Sixth and the Wildcats scored 2 runs in the Top of the Seventh for the 14-5 Final. Leading the way for the Wildcats were some Familiar Names Papa John going 3 For 4 with 4 Runs Scored, Kevin Oliver going 4 for 5 with 2 Runs Scored with a Grand Slam a Triple Two Singles and 7 Runs Batted In, Bill Jones was 4 for 5 with 2 Runs Scored, Billy the Kid Howland Slacked off a Little Today only going 3 for 4 and He didn’t Score any Runs ( way to take the Day off Billy )hahahaha, Mike Wooden Bat Weidmann chipped in going 2 for 4 with 2 Runs Scored, Aaron Sacharov was 2 for 4 with 1 Run Scored, and Fred Weiner, John Reich, Steve Scheele all Scored a Run for the 14 Run Total
Our Hats off to the Classics who have been without their # 1 Pitcher Norm Derry since ( EARLY JUNE )in the First Half of the Season
This is going to be a short review. The team overall did not play well and did not hit but the fielding held its own.
Classics lost 14-5.
Blue Jays 3 Blues Brothers 1
With only 10 birds available to play the Blue Jays had to face off against the Blues Brothers shorthanded. Their concern about playing with missing players was somewhat alleviated by the fact that one of the players missing was Lee Bullman. Despite the fact that Lee is an outstanding player the birds seem to play especially well when Lee is out and standing somewhere else. The Blue Jays mysteriously have a 5 and 0 record in games where Lee is not there.
The Blues Brothers jumped out early with a run in the first inning and after that run scored the Blue Jays turned on their defense, going into dodging bullet mode, as the jays dodged one bullet after another and held the powerful Brothers lineup scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Blue Brothers were doing the same thing keeping the bluebirds off the board by turning 3 double plays. In the top of the fourth the jay birds struck. After singles by Jeff Blank and Jim O'Brien, Rich Pich doubled in the gap in left center driving in 2 runs. Tony Baccari came in to run for Rich and Ken Mealey followed up with a single moving Tony over to third base. Bob Silvester followed that with an RBI single driving in the third run of the inning. No more runs were scored and the jaybirds held on for a 3 to 1 victory.
Rich Pich was without question the star of the game going 2 for 3 and driving in 2 runs while doing a great job pitching and getting key third strike fouls to get out of jams. The bluebird infield of Ken Mealey, Dick Tosti, Jeff Blank, Steve Griffin and Bill Matlack all made major defensive contributions. Offensively Tony Baccari was 2 for 3 with a walk, Ken Mealey was 3 for 3, and Bob Silvester was 2 for 3 with a big RBI single. Tosti, O'Brien, Blank and Rich Dickson contributed hits. A well played game by both teams.
The Blue Jays with solid defense and great pitching defeated The Blues Brothers 3 to 1, on Field # 4, in the 9:30 AM game Tuesday.
We didn't realize it, but the Blue Jays actually won the game in the first inning, when after scoring one run, The Blues Brothers loaded the bases with one out. The Blues Jays pitcher then got our number 6 and 7 hitters to hit a foul ball with two strikes, resulting in two strikeouts and no more runs scored.
The Blues Jays scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning, on clutch hits by the middle to lower part of their batting order.
Tom Riether had three hits including a double for the Blues Brothers. Wayne Heaton had two hits with one being a double and Charlie Whitaker had two singles. Franklin Smith, Ted Henritzy, and Ed Brandriff, all had one hit each.
Credit the Blue Jays for winning the game playing every inning with only three outfielders.
Philadelphia A's star player Bobby Shantz will turn 100 years old on September 26. A party was held in his honor last weekend. There were many honored guests but the spotlight was stolen by our very own Ed Brandriff who related stories about his exploits playing in the Bucks County Senior Softball League for hours on end and bored everyone to tears.
Well done Ed!
Game Reports For 9/4/2025
Blues Brothers 7 Devil 6
On Christopher Jones Field the Blues Brothers squeaked by the Devils 7 to 6 in an eight inning contest.
The Blues Brothers started the scoring in the second inning when Tom Riether hit a triple, and Andy Cohen drove him in with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Blues Brothers scored three runs when Joe Mursch and Franklin Smith reached base on consecutive singles. Tom Riether was then intentionally walked on four fake pitches. Ted Henritzy then hit a single up the middle, driving in two runs. Bill Krieger, two batters later, hit an RBI single.
The Devils scored one run in the top of the fifth inning. Leading 4 to 1 in the top of the seventh inning the Devils scored four runs on some key hits and two errors by the Blues Brothers, to take a 5 to 4 lead. In the top of the seventh inning Tom Riether blasted a solo home run to left center field to tie the game. The Blues Brothers were about to win the game, but our pinch runner did not overrun second base and collided with the Devils second baseman as the winning run was being scored on consecutive singles by Bill Krieger, Wayne Heaton and Charlie Whitaker. The runner was called out at second base, ending the rally.
The Devils scored one run in the 8th inning going ahead in the game. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Monroe Weingarten hit a single advancing the "ghost runner" to third. Butch Bodenheimer, our 12th batter in the order, then blasted a double to left field driving in two runs and the Blues Brothers escaped with the win.
The Blues Brothers turned four double plays in the game and Wayne Heaton pitched all eight innings.
Well, the Devils played better ball today but came up short in the 8th inning to lose 7-6.
Devils were down 4-1 until the 7th inning and came out going ahead 5-4 until the Blues Brothers tied the game at 5 each, with Tom Reither hitting a bomb in left field for a home run.
Devils scored one run in top of the eight but couldn’t hold The Blues Brothers down….
Ray Morris went 3-3 and pitched a great game.
Roy Barlow, Jeff Hooker and Wayne Haller all went 2-3.
Bim Bradford went 2-2…
All in all a better game for the Devils…
Flames 7 Wildcats 5
The Flames and Wildcats battled each other and the Flames came out on top (this time) 7-5. The Flames bats appeared to start hot loading the bases with no outs in the top of the first inning. The Wildcats agile (that might be spelled correct for ageless!) third baseman Bill Howland played Michael Jack Schmidt defense by first forcing the speedy Tom Cosgrove at home plate on a grounder, followed by a third to home inning ending double play on the next batter's ground ball! Bill's defense doused the Flames offense resulting in scoreless innings until the top of the fifth inning. The Wildcats scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first but the Flames matched that with two runs in the top of the fifth and went ahead 3-2 with another run in the top of the sixth. The Wildcats stormed back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-3 lead. The Flames rallied scoring four runs and held the Wildcats scoreless in the bottom of the seventh for the win. The Flames offense was led by Kevin Culp's three hits and two runs scored. Kevin Grevera, Russ Dorrycott, Bob Gaines, and Ron Cohen each had two hits. John Mack contributed two RBI's. The Flames defense made some strong plays. Bob Gaines continued his stellar right field play throwing out runners at second and at home. Jerry Gross made an all-star play at catcher bare handing Bob's bounced throw away from the plate and racing to beat the oncoming runner for an out. Tom Cosgrove ranged far into left field to nab a pop-up. Both pitchers (Kevin Culp and Tom Delaney) pitched well with only one walk between them and very few three ball counts resulting in a quickly played game.
After getting out of a Bases Loaded No Outs Jam in the Top of First Inning the Wildcats were able to Score 2 Runs in the Bottom of the First to take a 2-0 Lead and held it until the Top of the Fifth Inning when the Flames would put 2 Runs of their own on the Board and added another Run in the Top of the Sixth to take a 3-2 Lead but with 1 Out in the Bottom of the Sixth the Wildcats would put together 4 Straight Hits including 2 Triples to Score 3 Runs and go ahead 5-3 then came the Top of the Seventh and unlike the First Inning being able to get out of a Bases Loaded No Outs Jam the Wildcats couldn’t get out of a Man on First 1 Out Jam and went on to allow 4 Runs to Score on some Loose Plays and the Flames would shut the Wildcats down in the Bottom of the Seventh for the 7-5 Victory. I was thankful that We lost by 2 Runs because I walked Jack Galloway with the Bases Loaded for the Flames 7th Run but what nobody It was an Intentional Walk respecting Jacks Bat (SOUNDS GOOD) only if it were True Jack was just Very Patient at the Plate
Leading the Wildcats were Papa John 2 for 3 with 2 runs Scored Kevin Oliver 2 for 3 with 2 Runs Scored and Bill Jones 2 for 3 with 1 Run Scored WAIT a MINUTE those 3 Guys were 6 for 9 with 5 Runs Scored what the Hell did the Rest of us do HAHAHA
CONGRATULATIONS to the Flames on a WELL PLAYED GAME both OFFENSIVELY and DEFENSIVELY and to Kevin Culp on a Great Pitched Game
Classics 7 Panthers 5
Classics won 7 to 5 over the Panthers. A fairly well-played game, the pitching was especially good with a combined 3 base on balls for both teams. Other than that, both teams appeared with the required minimum to play. 13 hits for the Panthers, with Ed Occhi, Jim Klemick, and Augie Rosenblatt having two hits apiece. Surprise secret weapon, Ron Tuminski had a double with 2 RBIs.
The game started with the Classics scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the first and scoring 3 more runs in the third inning but the Panthers came back and scored 4 runs making the score 6-4 Classics. Then each team scored 1 run each but the Classics held onto a 7-5 victory.
Excellent pitching by John Breig and good defense by the Classics.
Multiple hits by Eric Suber, George Groves and Jack McNulty. Also contributing with singles where Al Moffa, Dave Simone, Eric Gottlieb, Dave Frayne, Joe Grines, Darryl Puzan, Dave Cutler and John Breig.
Blue Jays 14 Eagles 9
The Blue Jays tied a franchise record by winning two games in the same week. On a day where everyone was looking forward to an Eagles win, the Blue Jays said "Not these Eagles!" A solid Blue Jay offensive and defensive effort with everyone contributing allowed the smaller birds to build a solid 14 to 3 lead going into the 7th inning. The Eagles caught fire in the top of the 7th but trailing by 11 was too big of a hurdle even for a team as determined as the Eagles.
On the Blue Jay offensive side of the ball Steve Griffin and Curtis Bragg started things off going 3 for 4 and scoring twice. Tony Baccari had 2 hits and a walk, scoring twice while Dick Tosti had a hit and two walks, scoring once. Jeff Blank playing with an injured shoulder managed 3 hits with a walk. The biggest offensive impact came from Rich Pich who went 3 for four with 2 doubles while pitching a great game. Also contributing with 2 hits were Ken Mealey and Bob Silvester. Bill Matlack had a perfect day at the plate with a hit and 2 walks. The Eagles have a lot of heart and a never say die attitude. They came back 5 down to beat the Blue Jays in their last meeting and gave the Jays a sense of Deja Vu by posting up a big seventh inning. This time it was the Blue Jays that won the battle of the birds.
The Eagles scored a couple of runs in the first inning but from there on it was the Blue Jays who took complete charge of the game. The Eagles offense didn't play as well as it could have and the defense was poor. Trailing 14 to 3 going into the seventh inning the Eagles didn't quit. Down 14 to 3 they managed to score 6 runs but it wasn't enough to top the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays played very well and earned a solid win. Congratulations to the Blue Jays for a well played game !
Starr 10 Wolfpack 9
Starr started the scoring with a 3 spot in the first and the Wolfpack scoring 1 in the second. Score remained 3 to 1 going into the 4th inning when. The Wolfpack plated 3 runs in. The top of the4th to take a 4 to 3 lead until Starr scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th for an 8 to 4 lead. Big hit of Starr's inning was a booming 3 run Homer from Keith Klassic. The Wolfpack answered back with a 5 spot in the 6th for a 9 to eight lead. Starr answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th for a final 10 to 9 win in a back and forth game . Thanks to Kevin Culp and Jim O'Brien for their great pitching and not allowing a walk for the Wolf Pack. Without Jack pitching the number of pitches thrown was 65 not 1 hundred and sixty 65. This allowed Starr teams to go to lunch and not dinner. Offensively for Starr Bill Schwartz and Harris Braunstein each went 3 for 3 and Harris Braunstein is on my case and wants to lead off and play shortstop. He sees his Psychiatrist tomorrow and I hope he straightens him out. Chipping in with2 hits were John Rozolis, Terry Klein, Mike Katz, Alan Massey, and Jay Passman. Spencer Snyderman, Terry Abrams, Ron Fein and Keith Klassic each had one hit.
I want to start by thanking Kevin Culp and Jim O'Brien for stepping in and pitching for the Wolfpack, as well as Carl Weigand who played an excellent right field and added a key hit for the team. The Wolfpack was missing 3 players today but every player has guts and fight to never give up and even though they came out on the losing end of a tight game, they fought until the last out. Starr jumped out to the lead 3-0 as they combined key hits after two fielding miscues for a 3-1 lead after 2 innings. By the end of the 5th inning the Pack was behind 8-4 but then exploded with 5 runs in the top of the 6th. Starr scored an additional 2 runs in the bottom of the frame, making the score 10-9. The Wolfpack started a rally in the top of the 7th inning loading the bases with 2 out but on a 3 and 2 count Billy Schwartz struck out the Wolfpack batter to end the rally and cap the victory for Starr 10-9.
The Wolfpack had great offense today with Pete Williamson banging out 3 hits and making a great diving catch in left field. Phil Angiolini, Pascal Houcke, Brian Donocuff and Judy Agasar all had a good day at the plate with 3 hits each, several in clutch situations. Ron Mangini had 2 hits and Mark Azzaro, and Carl Weigand each chipped in one hit. Phil Angiolini turned a third to second double play which was ESPN worthy, and great plays were made in the outfield against a strong wind, by Pascal Houcke and Judy Agasar. Wolfpack batters continually hit frozen ropes to the Starr left side of the infield but most of them were caught. Hats off to Starr for a great game.
I know that everyone was trying to remember not to forget but apparently we either didn't remember what we forgot or we forgot what we were supposed to remember. Either way it ended up in my garage.
A busy day at the lost and found. If you recognize any of these items and are interested in retaking possession of them, they will be available Tuesday at Middletown Community Park.
Game Reports For 9/2/2025
Flames 15 Blues Brothers 12
The Flames bats were on fire in a 15-12 victory over the hard hitting Blues Brothers. The Flames offense was well distributed with three hits from Kevin Culp, John Mack, Bob Gaines, Ron Cohen, and Tom Cosgrove with Mack, Gaines, and Cosgrove all contributing doubles. Russ Dorrycott, Jack Galloway, Warren Fuchs, and Lee Jaslow each had two hits. Kevin Grevera, Craig Wright, and Jim Stabene all drove in a run. The Flames defense was led by fleet footed right fielder Bob Gaines who made multiple catches on shots hit his way. Warren Fuchs also made a nice pickup on a throw to the plate to thwart a runner trying to score. Kudos to Blue Brothers Manager Ted Henritzy for working with Flames Manager Tom Cosgrove and the umpire to fairly resolve a mistaken call. As letting the call stand favored the Flames and reversing the call favored the Blue Brothers, all three agreed to a "do-over" as if the play never happened.
The Flames beat the Blues Brothers in the 9:30 AM at Firefighters Field #1, 15 to 12.
The Flames won because they fielded better, hit better and ran the bases better than the Blues Brothers.
Paul Stetsko and Tom Riether had three hits each for the Blues Brothers. Ted Henritzy, Andy Cohen, Fred Eberhardt, Wayne Heaton, and Franklin Smith (2 doubles) had two hits for the losing team.
Jack Donohue, Joe Mursch, Charlie Whitaker, and Monroe Weingarten all had singles in the game.
The Blues Brothers had runners thrown out for the third out in the first inning and in the seventh inning, which killed rallies.
Eagles 14 Classics 2
The Eagles started early and scored 3 runs in the first inning and the classics scored 2 runs in the first. The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Eagles scored 5 runs. The Classics did not score any more runs while the eagles scored 5 more in the sixth inning and then 1 more in the seventh to end the game 14 to 2 over the injury riddled Classics. The Eagles were led by Rich Dempsey who had 4 hits and 4 other players with 3 hits including Gene Corrado, Franco Folda (triple), Clete Mahoney (double) and Tom Boyle. Five Eagles batters chipped in with 2 hits including Frank Glauser (walk), Art Taylor, Gary Jones Tom Boyce and Bob Esterly. Franco Folda made some nice catches at shortstop and Clete Mahoney made some nice catches in left field. Tom Boyle pitched a solid game.
This was a good to bad and ugly game, The Classics only managed 2 runs in the first inning and could not score the rest of the game to lose 14-2.
John Breig pitched a good game but had little run support.
Wolfpack 14 Panthers 13
A fabulously fought game between two tough teams. With the Wolfpack missing two of their best players, the team pulled together, played hard and pulled out a victory 13-12. The Panthers jumped out to a 3- 0 lead in the first inning due to timely hitting and defensive errors by the Pack. The Panthers built their lead to 8-0 in the top of the second but the Wolfpack responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning and battled adding 5 more runs in the bottom of the third making the score 8-7. Tom Delany ( subbing for the Wolfpack) pitching his usual great game, blanked the Panthers in the next two innings and the Wolfpack added another 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth making the score 10-8. The Panthers then again were able to scratch out 3 runs in the top of the 5th, again with the help of Wolfpack defensive lapses, but the Pack rallied to score 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th
The game really became a squeaker as the Panthers pushed across another run in the top of the seventh placing the Wolfpack backs to the wall with a tie score 12-12 going into the bottom of the seventh. With the score tied the game went into the extra innings. The Panthers did not score so in the bottom of the 8th inning,
Ron Mangini led off with a truly cheap single followed by a slashing single by Phil Angiolini. Mark Azzaro moved the runner to third base and then Pete Williamson was walked. Pascal Houcke then came to bat and delivered his 4th hit of the day and drove in the winning run for a 13-12 walk off victory. On the offensive side for the Wolfpack Ron Mangini and Pascal Houcke both had 4 hits,
Phil Angiolini had 3 hits, Mark Azzaro came through a usual with 2 triples. Pete Williamson, Ken Radon and Judy Agasar each had 2 clutch hits and
Brian Donocuff, John Walsh and Louie DePalma each added one hit towards the victory. Thanks to Tom Delany for pitching for the Wolfpack and hats off to the Panthers for a hard fought game.
The Panthers suffered another brutal loss 14 to 13 to the Wolfpack in extra innings. It was a back-and-forth game. Panthers had 24 hits: Dale Cassidy had 4, Ron Tuminski and Mike Segal had 3. Doug Rutter, Augie Rosenblatt, Craig Nierderpreum each had 2. RBI's and runs were distributed. At times there was very good play, decent pitching both sides and noted that Tom Delaney pitched for the Wolfpack and was in a groove.
Blue Jays 18 Devils 2
"Blue Jay Way" is a pretty crappy song by Beatles standards but the Blue Jays played the Blue Jay Way Tuesday and had their most impressive showing of the season. The Blue Jays played excellent defense with Ken Mealey starting things off by either jumping or reaching high to spear a hard hit line drive in the first inning. Rumor has it that his feet may have left the ground. Tony Baccari played an excellent left field and threw 2 runners out. Jeff Blank speared a line drive and turned it into a double play and Dick Tosti played an outstanding shortstop also turning a double play. Howard Barman snagged a hard hit line drive to right field, Steve Griffin made an excellent play backing up first base, and Jim O'Brien threw a runner out at second from right centerfield.
The Blue also went on the attack offensively scoring in 6 of the seven innings. The attack was led by Dick Tosti (5 for 5, 2 runs and 3 RBIs) and Tony Baccari (5 for 5, 4 runs and 4RBIs). Jim O'Brien was 4 for 5 with 2 runs and 4 RBIs while Steve Griffin, Jeff Blank, and Howard Barman all chipped in with 3 hits each. Curtis Bragg had 2 hits and scored 4 runs. Rich Pich had 2 hits, a double, and pitched an excellent game. Ken Mealey had 2 hits, while Bob Silvester and Bill Matlack chipped in with 1 hit each. Rich Dickson was so busy coaching first base that he needed an afternoon nap.
The Jaybirds have had a high level of success playing when Lee Bullman is not there and want to make sure that Lee knows that their next game will be Friday night at 7:30 at the Cohocksink Recreation Center in Port Richmond.
I have nothing to say about today’s game except Ray Morris returned…
No more pitcher issues
Starr 12 Wildcats 5
Game started slow with the Wildcats taking a 2 to 1 lead after 2 innings. Starr answers with 4 runs with Mike Katz getting the big hit with a 3 run home run. (Oxygen was needed when he hit home plate) The scored was 5 to 2 after 4 innings. Starr then tacked on 2 runs in the 5th and 5 in the sixth for a 12 to 2 Score. The Wildcats put up 3 runs in the 7th for a final of 12 to 5. Defensively Ron Fein jumped and snagged a ball that had no chance to be caught and made a great catch. John Rozolis made an unbelievable catch from ss running into left field with his back to infield making an over the shoulder great catch . Offensively the bottom 3 batters of Bill Schwartz, Jay Passman and Harris Braunstein were 7 for 9 with winning pitcher going 3 for 3. Chipping in with 3 hits was Keith Klassic with 3 hits and 3 RBIs . Terry Klein and John Rozolis each had to hits with Terry Klein with 2 RBIs. Mike Katz had 1 hit and 3 RBIs, and Ron Fein 1 hit ,Terry Abrams and Alan Massey also with 1 hit. It was nice to see Kevin Kulp pitching again and Tom Delaney pitched 14 innings and his fast ball topped out 22 miles per hour in the last 2 innings.
The Game wasn’t as close as the Score indicates as the Wildcats Scored 3 of their 5 Runs in the top half of the 7th already behind 12-2 at the Time. We were able to pickup 17 Hits but also left 13 Runners Stranded, We also had a few Misplayed Balls in the Field. Not taking anything away from Starr who Hit the Ball and also Played Good Defense they Deserved the Win, this Game was a lot different than our last Game because the most Balls any Batter saw was Three and that was on a Full Count it’s a different Game when the Batter doesn’t have to Stand there and look at anywhere from Seven to Sixteen Pitches before He gets the opportunity to Swing at a Somewhat Close Pitch (like in our last game) Congratulations and Our Hats off to Starr on a well Played Game (especially that pain in the ass 2nd Baseman Jay Passman who kept Me off Base all Three at Bats)
Game Reports For 8/28/2025
Wolfpack 6 Classics 5
A hard fought squeaker was the result of the game with the Wolfpack outlasting the Classics 6-5. In the bottom of the first, singles by Dave Noa and Phil Angiolini resulted in the first run when Ron Mangini singled to left . The Classics then responded with a run in the top of the second but key hits by Pascal Houcke, Vince Burkett and John Walsh pushed across another Wolfpack run. The Pack was not finished as they scored 3 more runs in the third inning with two consecutive hits by Dave Noa and Phil Angiolini a walk to Mark Azzaro and a clutch hit by Pete Williamson. Defensively, the Pack made two great plays with a running catch by Steve Belenko on a moon shot by Jack McNulty and a Double Play Third to first by Phil Angiolini to
Ken Radon. The Classics would not surrender as they scored another run in the 4th and two in the 5th with a combination of hits and two key errors made by the Pack in the field. Louie DePalma pitched with an injury and gave the team everything he had. In the bottom of the fifth, Louie DePalma walked, Mark Azzaro and Pete Williamson combined to score 2 runs making it a 6-5 game for the Pack. In the top of the seventh inning, the Classics put men on base and Pete Williamson came in to pitch and close down a rally for the Wolfpack victory 6-5. On the offensive side for the pack, Dave Noa had two hits, as did Phil Angiolini, Pete Williamson and Pascal Houcke. It was a well fought game by both teams.
The Classics scored in the first inning with 1 run and Wolfpack came back and tied the game. The Wolfpack kept scoring a few runs the rest of the game and the Classics could not capitalize with men on base to lose a close game 6-5. Good hitting by Eric Suber, George Groves and Eric Gottlieb with 2 runs each.
Flames 10 Starr 9
The Flames came away with a 10-9 victory over Starr in a hard fought game won in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Flames were shorthanded fielding only ten players and utilized back-up pitcher Jack Galloway with Kevin Culp out. Russ Dorrycott, Craig Wright, and Bob Gaines deftly manned the outfield for the game. Starr jumped out to a 7-3 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning. The Flames offense battled back to take a 9-8 lead into the seventh inning. Starr tied the game when Tom Cosgrove thought he was throwing to John Mack at first base instead of Bill Russell and airmailed his throw to first on what would have been a game ending grounder allowing the tying run to score from third. Fortunately the Flames picked him up in the bottom of the seventh as Bill Russell got his third single of the day with one out. Lee Jaslow's infield grounder was not handled. Tom Cosgrove singled to right center to load the bases and Craig Wright drove a flyball to leftfield that just barely scored courtesy runner Bob Gaines from third for the win. The Flames defense turned three double plays. Lee Jaslow stabbed one screamer and fed to second for a relay to first on one. Jim Stabene started another. Bill Russell turned an unassisted double play when he caught a pop fly between the runner and the base and then tagged first. The Flames offense was led by Bill Russell, Bob Gaines, Kevin Grevera, Craig Wright, and Tom Cosgrove with three hits each. Russ Dorrycott had two hits and made a terrific running catch to preserve the tie. Jack Galloway pitched a complete game and came through with two sacrifice flies with runners in scoring position. Warren Fuchs had a hit and grabbed a relay throw to the plate to nab a runner trying to score.
Flames scored 2 runs in the 1st and Starr answered back with 2 in the 2nd. The Flames went ahead with another run in the bottom of the 2nd for a 1 run lead. Starr then scored 2 in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th for a commanding 7 to 3 lead. The lead only lasted till the 4th when Flames scored 3 for a slim 1 run Starr lead. Both teams added a run in the 5th. In the bottom of the 6th the Flames scored 2 for a 1 run lead. Starr came back in 7th to tie the score. In the bottom of the 7 the Flames scored the winning run for a 10 to 9 win. Offensively Starr was lead by John Rozolis going 3 for 3, and Terry Klein going 4 for 4. Every player had at least one hit. Starr was handicapped committing 13 errors and forced to swing pitches that were not strikes all game. This is the 3rd game in a row where the other team was not pitching their number one pitcher and had to put in another pitcher who could not throw strikes. We won 2 of the 3 games but the games go on for ever and players are forced to swing at anything close. I want to thank Gene Reeber realizing this and instead of making a mockery of the game Gene put a pitcher in That could throw strikes but weakened his defense. If a pitcher can't throw strikes after 8 balls a walk should be awarded and if it happens again remove that player who can't pitch and move the game along. The umpires don't even call illegal pitches, both defense and offensively players are frustrated. We all know who can't pitch then do not allow them. You would not put in a player who can't throw at short or a first baseman who cannot catch. The umpires are Frustrated also. Making a Mockery of the game can be forfeited by the umpire. And that is a rule in the book!!!!!!
Devils 12 Wildcats 11
Devils win again by a close game 12-11 in the seventh inning.
Frank Froio again the winning pitcher.
Dave Bushar and Wayne Haller each went 3-3, while Derek Foster went 3-4.

All around a nice win for the last place Devils.
I’m just going to keep this Short because I don’t want to Say how I really feel about this Game !!! We lost to the Devils-12 Wildcats-11
Congratulations to The Devils !
Panthers 14 Blue Jays 5
The Panthers played short handed with only 9 players. Good defense and timely hitting kept the Jays behind the whole game. Thanks to the Jays for giving up a player to throw the ball back to the pitcher ONLY.
Big hitters for the day:
Ron Tuminski 4 hits
Mike Aversa 4 hits with a ripped thumb nail.
Jim Klemick. 4 hits including 1 double
Dale Cassidy. 3 hits including 1 double
Augi (doggy) Rosenblatt 3 hits with double
Ed Occhi and Ken Riess each had 3 hits
Craig Niederpruem 1 hit.
The Blue Jays played their best game of the season, but it sure wasn't the one we played yesterday. Yesterday we got beat up by a Panther team that was playing with a borrowed Blue Jay catching, 3 outfielders, one outfielder with a broken hand, and one infielder that injured his hand in the first inning. The Blue Jays had body parts that appeared to be intact, even after being pummeled. The Panthers hit the ball well and played strong defensively. The Jays put on a spectacle of unclutch hitting, poor defensive play, with a brain fart thrown in every inning or two for diversity. The Panthers were only batting eight players so it seemed as if their top of their order came to bat at least twice every inning, and when they did, they hit and ran the bases well. The jays took comfort in the fact that the game was held at Chris Jones Park so that the only witnesses were the Panthers, one umpire, one jogger and two dog walkers.
There were some positive things to report for the blue birds. Ken Mealey did a good job filling in for the Blue Jays at third base. Steve Griffin had a perfect day at the plate with a single, a double, 2 walks and 2 runs scored. Lee Bullman was 2 for 3 and Rich Pich pitched a solid game and had a triple.
Blues Brothers 12 Eagles 8
The Eagles hosted the Blues Brothers in an early contest at Fireman’s Park with the Blues Brothers come out on top 12-8 The Brothers started the scoring with 2 runs in the 1st inning with a lead off single by Joe Mursch and a homerun from Paul Stetsko before anyone had their eyes open. The 2nd inning the Brothers scored 4 runs on consecutive singles from Andy Cohen, Wayne Heaton and Bill Kreiger later followed by singles from Charlie Whitaker and Butch Bodenheimer. In the bottom of the second the Eagles scored a touchdown ( 6 runs) but missed the extra point tying the game at 6 each. In the top of the 3rd the Brother’s scored 2 more runs on a single from Jack Donohue and a double by Ed Brandriff and a triple from Andy Cohen putting the Brother’s up 8-6. In top of the 5th a lead off single by Joe Mursch and triple by Jack Donohue and a homerun blast from Tom Riether making it 11-6. The Eagles scored single runs in the bottom of the 5th and 6th innings closing the gap to 11-8. The Brother’s grabbed a single runs in the top of the seventh with back to back singles from Paul Stetsko and Jack Donohue and a RBI single from Ed Brandriff making the final score 12-8. The Blues Brothers were aided by great defense with throwing out 2 runners at the plate by Tom Riether and another at 2nd base from Jack Donohue. The Brother’s were lead by Jack Donohue, Ed Brandriff and Andy Cohen with 3 hits each. 2 hits each from Joe Mursch, Paul Stetsko, Franklin Smith, Bill Krieger, Charlie Whitaker and Butch Bodenheimer. Home runs from Paul Stetsko and Tom Riether.
The Blues Brothers started quickly and took off with a 6 to 0 lead going into the bottom of the second inning but the Eagles responded by scoring 6 too. The Blues Brothers were able to keep the runs coming in by scoring 6 more runs in the game while the eagles could only score 2 runs which led the Blues Brothers to a 12 to 8 win. The Blues Brothers played good defense and were able to throw 2 eagles out at home plate. The Eagles were led by Frank Glauser who had 4 hits and Tom Boyce and Gene Corrado who each had 3 hits. Gene also having a walk. There were 6 Eagle players with 2 hits including Franco Folda, Craig Kloss, Rich Dempsey (double). Art Taylor, Gary Jones and Bob Esterly. Craig Kloss made some nice catches in the outfield. Tom Boyle pitched well and made some nice catches while pitching a good game. Franco Folda made a nice running catch at shortstop while Frank Glauser played well at third base. Tom Boyce and Gary Jones also played well in the infield. The eagles could just not keep up with the Blues Brothers. Congratulations to the blue's brothers who just outplayed the eagles.
From Tuesday's Eagles versus Wolfpack game
The Eagles and the Wolfpack played a very competitive game that went into extra innings with the Wolfpack scoring 2 runs in the ninth inning to come away with a 9 to 7 victory. The Eagles did make it interesting by scoring 3 runs in the seventh inning to send it into overtime. The Eagles were led by Franco Folda who had 3 hits and 4 players had 2 hits including Frank Glauser, Bob Esterly and our 2 subs Jim O'Brien and Ken Riess. Jim also made some nice plays at first base. We thank both Jim and Ken for helping us out. Congratulations to the Wolfpack for a close and fun game.
The Good News
I have an email from the Township indicated that the work at Community Park is now targeted for completion on 9/5. The picture on the left is an artists rendering of what the fields will look like when they are done. It might be a little tough on the outfielders.
The Bad News
Monday, Sept. 8, through Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a weekday lane closure with flagging will be in place on Langhorne Yardley Road between Maple Point Drive and Bridgetown Pike.

Game Reports For 8/26/2025
Wolfpack 9 Eagles 7 (9 Innings)
A hard fought extra inning battle resulted in the Wolfpack clawing the Eagles 9-7. The Eagles jumped on the Pack in the bottom of the first for 4 runs .
The Wolfpack put men on base in the second but could not push in a run. In the third inning Phil Angoiolini, Mark Azzaro and Pete Williamson all singled and two runs were driven in by a hard single to left by Ron Mangini making the score 4-2. The Wolfpack pitcher, Pete Williamson ( first start) held the Eagles scoreless in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. The bats of Angiolini, Azzaro, Williamson and Mangini delivered 2 more runs in the top of the 5th inning making the score 4-4. The score remained at 4-4 into the top of the 7th when John Walsh led off with a clutch 2 base hit followed by a single by Steve Belenko, a intentional walk to Mark Azzaro and then to help himself, Pete Williamson slashed an opposite field double which allowed the Pack to take a 7-4 lead. But the Eagles would not return to their nest quietly as they put runners on base and costly errors by the Wolfpack allowed the Eagles to score 3 runs pushing the game into extra innings. In the ninth inning Ken Radon delivered his 3rd hit of the game followed by John Walsh's second clutch hit. Steve Belenko then came through and great base running by Vince Burkett and Dave Noa scoring gave the Pack a 9-7 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. The Eagles then had the tying and winning run on base but the Pack defense shut them down for a 9-7 victory. Once again Mark Azzaro and Dave Noa turned in great performances at bat and in the field. Pete Williamson pitched a great game through a nail biter.
Classics 10 Flames 5 (8 Innings)
This was a Classic duel between two good teams the Classics jumped out in the top of the first inning scoring 3 runs adding on in the top of the third with 2 runs but the Flames came back in the bottom of the third scoring 2 runs. The score was 5-2 Classics the Flames scored one more run in the fourth to make it 5-3 game then later in the game scored 2 more runs to have a tie game in the seventh inning. Top of the eight inning ghost run at second, John Breig singled, Eric Suber walked, George Groves singled bases loaded and mighty hitting Jack McNaulty came to the plate and hit a moon shot over the left fielder's head for a grand slam making the score of 9-5 but that was not the end of the inning Al Moffa hit a single, Dave Simone advanced the runner to second, one out, Eric Gottlieb advance the runner to third, two outs and Dave Frayne hit a single to score Al to make it 10-5 Classics and finial out of the inning. Classics final score 10-5 win.
Great team win and pitching by John Breig was outstanding, Jack McNulty and Al Moffa with 3 hits and George Groves and Dave Simone with 2 hits each.
The Flames offense flashed to come back from a 5-0 deficit to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning only to fizzle for the rest of the game in a 10-5 extra inning loss to the Classics. Jack McNulty mashed the ball all game for the Classics with multiple crushed hits and one crushed out including a game deciding grand slam in the top of the eighth inning. The Flames offense was led by the two Kevins (Culp and Grevera) with three hits each. Russ Dorrycott and Tom Cosgrove contributed two hits to the Flames cause. Kevin Grevera made two highlight reel shoestring catches in left field to keep the game close. Craig Wright scored two runs. Craig, Bob Gaines, Jack Galloway, Jerry Gross, Warren Fuchs, and Lee Jaslow had one hit each.
Wildcats 11 Blues Brothers 8
The Game Started with the Blues Brothers Scoring 1 Run in the Top of the First only to have the Wildcats answer with 3 Runs of their Own in the Bottom half of the First the Second Inning started with the Blues Brothers Scoring 2 Runs to even the Score at 3-3 But the Wildcats again answered with 3 Runs in the Bottom of the Second and 2 More in the Bottom of the 3rd to take an 8-2 Lead the Blues Brothers scored 1 Run in the Fourth Inning and the Wildcats put up 3 more Runs in the Bottom half of the Fifth Inning to go up by the Score of 11-4 but the Blues Brothers weren’t QUITE FINISHED as they would Score 4 Runs in the Top of the Sixth Inning and that would be all the Scoring in the Game making the Final Score 11-8 in favor of the Wildcats Aaron Sacharov had His 2nd Straight Game going 3 for 3 and Scoring 2 Runs, Bill Jones was 3 for 4, Billy “The Kid” Howland was 2 for 2 with a Walk But the Real Offensive Star for the Wildcats was Mike “Wooden Bat” Weidmann going 3 for 3 and 2 of the Hits came with the Bases Loaded knocking in a Total of 5 Runs for the Game !!!
The Blues Brothers are trying to figure out which was more frustrating trying to find the softball field at Jones Park or the game itself this morning where the Wildcats won 11 to 8.
Joe Mursch, Tom Riether and Ed Brandriff had three hits for the losing team. Ted Henritzy had two hits. Fred Eberhardt, Wayne Heaton, Paul Stetsko, Bill Krieger, Franklin Smith, Monroe Weingarten and Charlie Whitaker all had one hit. Franklin's hit was an RBI double.
The Wildcats hit well and fielded well which was why they won the game.
Devils 10 Panthers 5
Seems like the Devils came to play today as they won 10-5 with Frank Froio being the winning pitcher.Wayne Haller led the team going 4-4 and played a great SS.
Derek Foster and Larry Restivo both went 3-4.
Roy Barlow, Jeff Hooker, and Gene Reeber went 2-4.
John Salmon went 2-3 with a great double in the 5th scoring 2.
Tom Jakubowski went 2-3 as well.
It was a great team effort today and about time we won a game…..
The Devils outplayed the Panthers. The Panthers left too many runners on base with only 13 hits.
Hitters of the day were:
Augie (Doggie) had 3 tremendous blasts.
Jim Klemick, Dale Cassidy had 2 hits each
Ed Occhi, Ken Riess, Mike Auerbach, Jim Swiderski, Craig Niederpruem and Doug Rutter all chipped in with 1 hit.
Starr 14 Blue Jays 13 (8 Innings)
The game started off with Starr scoring 3 runs in the first (Blue Jays pitcher complained that the pitching rubber was not measured correctly and short). After walking 2 batters the pitcher from the Blue Jay's got a tape and measured the distance and he was correct, it was 2 and half feet short. Who measured the field? ( it wasn't Craig Wright). Guess who for a free hot dog! The Blue Jays answered back with a 5 spot in the bottom of the first for a 5 to 3 lead. Starr scored 1 run in the top of the third and 3 in the 4th for a lead of 7 to 5 over the Blue Jay's which lasted till the Blue Jay's scored 4 in the bottom of the 6th for a 9 to 7 lead. In the top of the 7th, Starr started out at the bottom of their lineup and put up 6 runs for a 13 to 9 lead. All was looking good for Starr but the Blue Jay's did not quit and scored 4 to tie the game up at 13 to 13. Extra innings and Starr squeezed a run across for a 14 to 13 lead. The Blue started out with a runner 2nd and with 1 out the next batter singled for
Offensively Starr was led by Larry Levin, John Rosolis, Keith Klassic, and Spencer Synderman each getting 3 hits. 2 hits by Terry Abrams, Alan Massey, Jay Passman, Harris Braunstein, and Mike Katz. Bill Schwartz added 1 hit and another complete game (struck out the side in one inning). It was a crazy game score wise and Lot of scoring. The over under was 25 runs. Tom Delaney had the over and lost 100 dollars. He is under review with the board for illegal betting and bad language around little kids.
A back and forth overtime thriller. Starr struck early with 3 runs in the first inning but the Blue Jays responded with a 5 run inning. Starr regained the lead with a run in the third and 3 more in the fourth while the Blue Jays went dormant for 4 innings. In the 6th inning the birds bit back scoring 4 runs to take a short lived 9 to 7 lead. Starr had everything go their way in the seventh posting 6 runs to jump ahead 13 to 9. The Jays bounced back once again scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie things up at 13. Starr was able to plate the 8th inning ghost runner and then turn their third double play in the bottom of the eight to seal the win.
Starr hit the ball well, turned 3 double plays to kill rallies and kept the mistakes to a minimum. That was the difference in the game.
The Blue Jays offense was led by Curtis Bragg (3 for 4, 2 runs), Tony Baccari (3 for 4, 3 runs), and Dick Tosti (3 for 4, 2 runs, triple, 3 RBI's). Jim O'Brien (2 for 3) added to the offense while Steve Griffin, Lee Bullman, Ken Mealey, and Del Kates were all 2 for 4.
Editor's Notes: The field was measured by Craig Wright along with Bob Gaines and Jim O'Brien. The mound was set at the correct location before the first game. We can only assume that the mound was apparently relocated during the course of that game.
If the over under was 25, and Tom had the over, a final score of 14 to 13 (27 runs total runs) would have made him a winner. Whenever I think of the "real winners" in our league, Tom's name is one of a few that instantly comes to mind.

I’ve been at Comm Park for a few hours today for another meeting but the quad has four vehicles running around the interior all day. Some go on the air, some deliver parts. So tell your guys that work is getting done. It’ll be done soon - whether that’s a week or two or three we will see.
Thanks. I'll share the update. Our regular season ends Septbember 16th.
Hopefully we can get back before then.

I'm planning to start a used softball equipment store. I can acquire inventory easily by just being the last one to leave our games. I have these lovely items that I picked up on Tuesday. If anyone is interested in these items please contact me so I know where to leave them Thursday.
30 ounce Easton Rebel Softball Bat. Used but it appears that it really doesn't have any hits in it since it's previous owner abandoned it.
14 Inch Wilson A360 softball glove. Used. Looks nice but probably doesn't work very well. It says genuine leather but I have my doubts.
Orange Hydro FlaskThermos with blue bottom and a happy dude icon. Works well, water was still cold when I dumped it out. Sorry! This item has already been claimed.
Game Reports For 8/21/2025
Eagles Wildcats
In what I know would have been a Well Played Game by “BOTH TEAMS” the Wildcats and Eagles had to Settle for a “CANCELLATION” due to Poor and Unplayable Field Conditions. “CONGRATULATIONS to the EAGLES” on what We know would have been a well Played Game And Our Hats Off well just for the Sake of Taking Our Hats Off !!!
Starr 8 Devils 2
Starr scored 2 runs in the first and 2 in the 3rd for a 4 to 1 lead after 3 and remained that score till Starr scored 4 in the bottom of the 6th. Devils score a lone run in the 7th for a final of 8 to 2 Starr victory. Starr played great defense behind Bill Schwartz' great pitching. Offensively for Starr Keith Klassic was a perfect 3 for 3 with 3 big rbi's. Also Larry Levin was a perfect 2 for 2 with a walk and 3 runs scored. Chipping in with 2 booming doubles was Terry Klein. Terry Abrams, Bill Schwartz chipped in with 2 hits each. Ron Fein contributed 2 rbi's and Bill Schwartz also had 2 rbi's. 1 hit each for John Rizolio, Spencer Synderman, Dave Detweiler and Harris Braunstein. Great team effort against great group players from the Devils.
The Devils were in it until the 6th inning only down by 3 but Starr put up 4 runs in the 6th and never looked back.
Derek Foster pitched another good game and defense was solid. We just can’t get the hits we need to succeed. But we always try our best…
Flames 8 Wolfpack 6
The Flames Warren Fuchs and Lee Jaslow started a four run Flames rally in the top of the seventh inning in an 8-6 hard fought battle with the Wolfpack. Warren had a one out single and Lee followed with a walk turning over the batting order and igniting the rally for the team. The four runs were needed as the Wolfpack clawed back two runs in the bottom of the seventh. John Mack led the offense with four hits and two RBI's. Tom Cosgrove had three hits including a double. Kevin Grevera and Craig Wright had two hits each with Kevin driving in three runs. Kevin Culp pitched his usual walk less game and had one hit and one walk. Kevin also drove in the go ahead run in the seventh with a sacrifice line drive out. The Flames defense was solid. Jerry Gross filled in for the disabled Ron Cohen at third base with multiple strong plays including a bases loaded no out third to first double play in the seventh inning. Bill Russell made a nice running catch in right field early in the game. Jim Stabene ranged from midfield toward first base to snag a popup. The Flames displayed some flexibility with Warren Fuchs filling in as an outfielder for the last two innings and Ron Cohen filling in at catcher defying doctor's (and spouses') orders. The game had some excitement in the last out of the top of the third inning when Tom Cosgrove collided with Kenny Radon on a close play at first base. Tom went flying but was unable to stick the landing after being called out, Ken was heard saying "I thought I might have killed the little guy!". Both players were ok and stayed in the game.
The Wolfpack did not bring their "A" game against the Flames but they battled hard for 6 innings. The Flames jumped out with 2 runs in the first due to fielding miscues, but the Pack responded in the bottom with a Mark Azzaro triple and a Ron Mangini single. The Wolfpack added another run in the 3rd inning with a Dave Noa single and Mark Azzaro's second triple. In the fourth inning the Pack added an additional run with clutch hits by Pascal Houcke, Vince Burkett, Brian Donocuff and Ken Radon, making the score 3-2. Flames were held scoreless through the 4th and 5th innings as the Wolfpack squeezed out another run with 3 hits making it a 4-2 game. In the 6th and 7th innings the Flames took advantage of poor field play combined with walks and clutch hits to drive in 6 runs. In the bottom of the 7th the Wolfpack launched a rally with consecutive hits by Brian Donocuff, Ken Radon and
John Walsh but the next batter hit into an easy double play which really hurt the Pack. Phil Angiolini the ripped a shot to left but was thrown out at second base ending the game....a tough loss for the Wolfpack. Kevin Culp pitched a great game and Tom Cosgrove played his usual all-star game.
For the Wolfpack....Mark Azzaro was 3-3 with 2 triples, Vince Burkett delivered 2 hits as did Brian Donocuff and Ken Radon. Dave Noa, Ron Mangini, Pascal Houcke, John Walsh and Phil Angiolini added additional hits.
Blue Jays 13 Classics 11
The Blue Jays put up some early offense scoring 3 runs in both the first and third innings but the Classics outdid them scoring 5 runs in the first inning and then 5 more in the third to take a 10 to 6 lead after 3 innings. In the third inning Tony Baccari hit his second little league home run of the season, grounding the ball past first base and once again losing control of his brakes. It wasn't pretty but it resulted in 3 Blue Jay runs to give the birds a very short lived 6 to 5 lead. Not to be outdone Jack McNulty hit a grand slam to end a 5 run Classic third inning. Jack's hit was a catchable deep fly ball that both Lee Bullman and Jim O'Brien were in position to catch. The problem was that two bodies cannot occupy the same space at exactly the same time and when they collided at full speed (not an incredibly fast full speed) the ball went off O'Brien's glove and both fielders went down for the count.
In the fifth inning the Jays got hot scoring 5 runs with 2 outs. Curtis Bragg doubled to get things going, after a walk to Tony Baccari, Dick Tosti, Jeff Blank, and Jim O'Brien all hit RBI singles. Rich Pich followed with an RBI double and Lee Bullman followed with an RBI single to cap off the inning. In the sixth inning it was more of the same for the Jaybirds as Ken Mealey started with a walk, followed by singles by Del Kates, Bob Silvester and Bill Matlack as 11 consecutive blue batters reached base safely.
The Jay defense tightened up and did not allow any more runs until Jack McNulty's solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. A home run that did not injure any outfielders. The Classics refused to surrender easily as they loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to plate the runs needed to tie or win the game. Del Kates threw a runner out at home for the second out and then the game ended on a strikeout. Hats off to the Classics on a classic game.
Rich Pich led the Jays offense with 3 hits (2 doubles). Chipping in with 2 hits were Curtis Bragg (double), Tony Baccari (LL homer, walk), Dick Tosti, Jeff Blank, Jim O'Brien, Lee Bullman and Del Kates.
Rich Dickson provided moral support and Bob Silvester loves to write "Blue Jays Won" in our book. We need to do it more often.
This was a Classics back and forth scoring game. The Blue Jays scored 3 runs in the top of the first and the Classics came back with 5 runs then it was back and forth through the game. The Blue Jays had a big inning late in the game to go ahead 13-10 but the Classics had bases loaded with 2 outs and could not score. Blue Jays 13 and Classics 11.
Hitting highlights: Jack McNulty hitting a grand slam home run and single home run also Eric Suber, George Groves, Al Moffa, Frank Verano and Joe Grines contributing 2 hits each.

Light Tower replacement at Community park
With light tower replacement work ongoing at Community Park we were forced to move games to Firefighters Park and Christopher Jones Park. The game between the Flames and the Devils had to be cancelled as Christoper Jones park was not playable due to heavy rain inthe area.
Wolfpack 11 Blue Jays 7
Another hard fought battle for the Wolfpack with some strange occurrences. The Pack jumped out to a 2-0 score in top of the first only to have the Blue Jays respond with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. Neither team scored in the second inning but the Wolfpack made noise in the top of the third. Louie DePalma singled followed by another single from Dave Noa. Then with two outs Pete Williamson and Ron Mangini delivered clutch hits. Pascal Houcke then slashed a key double to center field, having the Pack score 4 runs. The never give up Blue Jays put two runs on the board in the bottom of the third making it a squeaker 6-5 in favor of the Pack. Both teams added 2 runs each in the fifth inning. For the Pack in that inning Dave Noa singled again Mark Azzaro delivered his second big hit , Pete Williamson and Ron Mangini both doubled. In the 6th inning, the Blue Jays put men on base and was threatening a big inning when lightning struck as the Blue Jays hit into a 6-3 double play but their runner going into third base overran the commit line making the play a Triple Play, ending the threat. In the top of the seventh, the Pack attack resulted in additional 3 runs as John Walsh started the rally with a line drive single followed with a walk and three singles. making the score 11-7. Leading the offense for the Wolfpack was Dave Noa and
Ron Mangini both went 4 for 4 at the plate, also Mark Azzaro had a triple and double, Pete Williamson going 3-4 , Brian Donocuff 2-3 and Judy Agasar had a great game going 3-3. Tough defense was played by the infield of Angiolini, Azzaro, Noa , Donocuff and Radon, which shut down Blue Jay threats.
First things first, the Blue Jay batter that hit into the triple play was none other than ___ _'_____
Editor's Note: We will not include information in these reports that makes a player look bad. These reports are intended to show the positive side of things and reflect positively on the players and the league in general. Especially if the player in question happens to be the Editor.
Overall the Blue Jays showed a great deal of spunk going head to head with a powerful Wolfpack team and matching up well all while missing some key players. The two teams traded the lead and the Jays stayed in the game until the most unfortunate turn of events, the triple play, in the fifth inning. That took a lot of steam out of the team and after that the birds were unable to score.
Tony Baccari and Dick Tosti both had excellent offensive games going 3 for 4. Jeff Blank was 3 for 3. Single hits by ___ _'_____, Rich Pich, and Lee Bullman (and a walk). Rich Pich pitched a great game and on two occasions battled back from 3-0 counts to record strikeouts. Pete Williamson had a great game for the Wolfpack making an outstanding catch in left field and delivering a key 2 out bases loaded hit. Pascal Houck showed a lack of courtesy by using a bat I gave him to hit a ball over my head.
Blues Brothers 5 Classics 3

The Blues Brothers scored two more runs in the top of the third inning on a Joe Mursch single, followed by a double by Paul Stetsko, followed by a two RBI double by Tom Riether. The Classics started hitting, taking advantage of two walks with the bases loaded and scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Al Moffa led the team 3 hits, Franks Verano 2 hits and Eric Suber, George Groves, Eric Gottlieb, Joe Grines, Darryl Puzan all contributed with 1 hit each.
Wildcats 8 Panthers 1
In what was probably the Best Defensive Game of the Season for the Wildcats they were able to Beat the Undermanned Panther’s who were missing 2 or 3 of their Starters. The Wildcats managed to get 18 Hits as all but One Wildcat had at least 1 Hit. The Cats were led by Aaron Sacharov going 3 for 3 and Scoring
1 Run, Kevin Oliver 2 for 3 with 2 Runs Scored and back in the writeup again is the Youngster Billy “The Kid” Howland going 2 for 3 with 2 Runs Scored. Papa John was 2 for 3 with 1 Run Scored and Howard Wible going 1 for 3 with a Fielder's Choice and 2 Runs Scored.
Also today was the First Game where Papa John, Carl Weigand or (Scott Comer if he was there) stayed on their Feet the whole Game while Playing Defense. The Panthers welcomed back Andy Markowitz from the IR it’s been awhile since Andy has Played but He did a Good Job in Leftfield
Our Hats Off to the Panthers for Playing Hard the Entire Game and not giving up
“DESPITE BEING SHORT HANDED ONCE AGAIN”
The Wildcats won 8 to over 1 over the Panthers. Pitching was good, the defense was better for the Wildcats but not too shabby for the Panthers. 7 Hits for the Panthers, 3 for Ed Occhi, run scored by Ron Tuminski, RBI credited to Jim Klemick. It was nice to see Andy Markowitz back in the game.
Eagles 3 Starr 2
The eagles hosted Starr in a very tight and well played game which seemed like a pitchers duel between Bill Schwartz of Starr and Tom Boyle of the Eagles. Both pitchers allowed only one walk and each team played excellent defense. Starr scored one run in the first inning and the eagles got on board with one in the third inning. Starr then scored one in the fourth and the Eagles responded with two runs to take a 3 to 2 lead. Each team played hard for the remainder of the game but neither team could score with Starr having a runner thrown out at home plate by second baseman Gary Jones. Both teams played a very exciting game and we applaud Starr for an exciting game. The eagles had 4 players with 2 hits including Gene Corrado, Franco folda, Clete Mahoney (double) and a walk and Tom Boyle.
Starr scored 1 run in the top of the first for a 1 to 0 lead. The Eagles tied the score in the 3rd. Starr scored 1 run in the top of the 4th for the lead until the Eagles answered with 2 in the bottom of the 4th for a 3 to 2 lead, which held up for a final score of Eagles 3 Starr 2. The Eagles played a great defensive game and squared all of Starr's rallies. Offensively for Starr were Ron Fein and Howard Borochaner going 2 for 2 and Ron Fein had all of Starr's RBIs. Chipping in with 2 hits was Terry Klein. Keith Klassic and Bill Schwartz each had 1 hit. Both pitchers had great games. Congratulations to the Eagles for a well played game.
Game Reports For 8/14/2025
Eagles 13 Devils 3
The Eagles started off on all cylinders as they scored 5 runs on 7 his and no outs in the first inning. The devils scored 1 run in the first. The Eagles then scored 5 more in the second inning. Things slowed down as the Eagles scored one run in each of the next 3 innings and they held the Devils scoreless in those 3 innings. The Eagles held a 13 to 1 lead going into the sixth inning and the devils scored one run in each inning while the Eagles were scoreless as the Eagles came away with a 13 to 3 win. The Eagles had 5 players with 3 hits including Gene Corrado. Frank Glauser, Clete Mahoney ( 1 triple), Rich Dempsey ( 1double) and Tom Boyle. The eagles had 5 players with 2 hits including Craig Kloss, Tom Boyce, Art Taylor, Gary Jones and Bob Esterly. The defense was solid as Frank Glauser, Franco Folda and Clete Mahoney played nearly flawlessly in the field. Craig Kloss also made a nice running catch in the outfield. All in all it was a very solid game for the eagles.
Well, like I said earlier, never know who will show up and today the Devils did not….but the Eagles did.
The Eagles hit today with a 13-3 win over the Devils who struggled to get any kind of push on offense, and fell short. The Eagles pitched and hit all day. Congrats to them.
Wolfpack 7 Blues Brother 4
The Wolfpack bounced back from a tough loss last Tuesday to defeat the Blues Brothers 7-4. Once again Louie De Palma (not from Taxi) pitched a strong game as 3 of the 4 runs scored by the Blues Brothers were unearned runs. The Blues jumped out early to a 2-0 lead and added an additional run in the 4th inning for a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th Steve Belenko doubled, Phil Angiolini slashed a shot to left, followed by a Mark Azzaro triple, a Pete Williamson double and singles by Ron Mangini and Dave Noa delivering a 5 run spot. With the Pack now leading 5-3 their defense stepped up to shut down the lethal Blues Brothers offense. The Wolfpack was not done as in the 6th inning Steve Belenko delivered his 3rd hit and scored on a booming Home Run by Phil Angiolini for another 2 runs, making it 7-3. The Blue Brothers started a rally in the bottom of the 7th scoring a single run but with men on base Louie and the defense tightened up and shut down the rally for the victory. On offense, Steve Belenko, Phil Angiolini, both had 3 big hits, Mark Azzaro, Ron Mangini and Dave Noa each had 2 hits with triples and doubles included. Pete Williamson, Ken Radon and Judy Agasar chipped in one hit each. Once again the infield stars of Phil Angiolini, Mark Azzaro, David Noa, Brian Donocuff and Ken Radon kept the Blues at bay with great clutch plays. A great win for the Pack against a great tough hitting Blues Brothers team.
The Wolfpack outhit and out fielded the Blues Brothers on Field # 4 Thursday morning taking the game 7 to 4.
The Blues Brothers took a 2 to 0 lead in the first inning which lasted 3 innings. Paul Stetsko had a single, advancing to second base on a fielding misplay in right field. Tom Riether drove in Paul with a double and Ted Henritzy drove in Tom with a single. The Wolfpack erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth inning on several hits and an outfield error. The Blues Brothers got one more run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Joe Mursch driving in Jack Donohue.
The Wolfpack scored 2 more runs in the top of the sixth when the Blues Brothers Manager had his left Center Fielded move up to the cones only to have a blast hit over the Left Center Fielders head, plating the two runs. The Blues Brothers scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Joe Mursch drove in Jack Donohue.
Joe Mursch had three hits for the losing team. Jack Donohue and Ted Henritzy also contributed two hits.
Flames 10 Panthers 5
The Flames bats sizzled in the third and fourth innings with five runs in each inning but fizzled in their other four at bats in a 10-7 win over the Panthers. Both pitchers (Mike Segal and Kevin Culp) hurled walkless games. The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning. The Flames jumped ahead 10-4 with their two five run innings. The Panthers comeback came up short with three more runs in the top of the sixth and a scoreless seventh. The Flames welcomed back Jerry Gross from his broken arm. Jerry, Craig Wright, Kevin Culp, Kevin Grevera, Russ Dorrycott, Jack Galloway, and Bill Russell all had two hits. One of Craig Wright's was a double and Tom Cosgrove chipped in with a triple. The Flames defense had a good game with two double plays - one from Russ Dorrycott catching a flyball and heaving a strike to catcher Warren Fuchs to end an inning. Ron Cohen ranged far for a foul pop. Kevin Grevera made a sliding shoestring catch in left field. Also notable that Jim Stabene was robbed of a hit. Thanks again to Hal Katz for filling in as an umpire.
The Flames won 10 to 5. Both pitchers had no walks and made the game competitive. Flames scored 5 runs bottom of 3rd and 4th inning, Panthers scored 4 in top of 3rd and 3 top of 6th, for their runs. Otherwise the game was close.
Panthers led by Dale Cassidy, Jim Klemick, Ken Riess and Ed Occhi with 2 hits apiece. Dale and Jim scored 2 runs and 1 RBI apiece. Jim had a double along with Ken, who had 4 RBI's. Mike Segal, Mike Aversa, Craig Niederpreum, Augie Rosenblatt and Doug Rutter each had a hit, with Craig, Augie and Doug scoring a run.
Wildcats 16 Blue Jays 6
In a Game where the Blue Jays were missing Two of their Top Offensive and Defensive Players 2nd Baseman Steve Griffin and Leftfielder Tony “Crazy Legs” Baccari who also Bat 1 & 2 in the Lineup, the Wildcats were able to take advantage of the Blue Jays Players not in their Regular Positions to Record a 16-6 Victory. The Wildcats showed how important it is to have Your Teams 1 & 2 Hitters as leadoff Batter Papa John and 2nd Batter Kevin Oliver were on Base a combined 7 Times and Scored 7 Runs. Other Major Contributors for the Wildcats were Bill Jones 4 for 4 with 2 Runs Scored and Mike “Wooden Bat” Weidmann was 3 for 4 with 2 Runs Scored. Last but not least Steve Scheele was 2 for 4 with 2 Runs Scored. Bill Howland was back to His usual 3 for 4. To go with their 7 Combined Runs Papa John was 3 for 4 with 3 Runs Scored and Kevin Oliver 4 for 4 with 4 Runs Scored. The Score would have been a “LOT DIFFERENT” if the Wildcats Played without Papa John and Kevin Oliver !!!
The Blue Jays did put up a 6 Run Fifth inning and if Steve and Tony would have been there it would have been a Completely Different Game
Our Hats off to the Blue Jays for not giving up even though they were SHORTHANDED !!
Tired after losing 3 straight one run games the Blue Jays went out and got totally wiped out by the Wildcats. The Blue Jays didn't lose the game, the Wildcats won it. They won it by crushing hit after hit, batter after batter, throughout the entire lineup. The Jaybirds never gave up and took some level of pride in the fact that they never gave up a five run inning. Naturally they weren't really proud of giving up three 4 run innings. Blame that on the Wildcats who were hitting the ball so well they even sent a guy to the plate with a wooden bat from 1930. The Wildcats also ruined the bird's day, killing their offense by turning 3 double plays.
There were a couple of Blue Jay highlights. Trailing 12 to 0 after four innings the birds sunk their beaks into the Wildcat defense posting a 6 run inning and giving the impression that they were going to make a game of it after all. But the Wildcats responded with 4 runs in their half of the inning and the Blue Jays manager, prepared to accept the L, pulled his pitcher and put in Jordon Romano. Curtis Bragg had a great day at the plate going 4 for 4, scoring a run, and having 2 RBI's. Dick Tosti, Jeff Blank, Jim O'Brien, Rich Pich, and Bob Silvester all chipped in with two hits.
Starr 16 Classics 3
Starr took advantage of a depleted Classic team. Eric Gottlieb made an incredible play of the game with a defensive gem at 3B. Jack McNulty hit a monster HR to account for 2 of the Classic's runs. Starr was led by Terry Abrams' 4 hits and numerous difficult fielding plays. On defense Terry Klein & Howard Borochaner turned in quality plays. With 3 hits each Keith Klasic, Spencer Snyderman, Billy Schwartz.
With 2 hits each Terry Klein, Ron Fein, Howard Borochaner, Alan Massey, Jay Passman. Chipping in 1 hit each were Dave Detwiler & Harris Braunstein. Harris brought his daughter & granddaughter out for our cheering section. Thank God he didn’t embarrass himself. As always Kevin did a great job umpiring the game. When Eric has his Classic team back healthy they will be difficult to beat.
Thanks again to Jim OB for putting the puzzle together so we can get our games played. I think he’s underpaid.
The Classics were short handed missing some starting players but George Reich and Tom Rutledge filled in to complete a full lineup. The Classics could not keep up with the hitting of the Starr team outscoring us 16-3.
On the bright side again our home run king Jack McNulty hit a two run home run over the fence on field #1 with Joe Grines on base. George Reich and Tom Rutledge each had two hits. Also George Groves, Joe Grines, Eric Gottlieb, Dave Frayne, and Mark Jerdan each had one hit each.
P.S. Couldn't get a write in on Tuesday 8/12 game Classics vs Devils. Classics were short handed missing starting players and Devils were on fire winning 18-11.
Great hitting by Jack McNulty hitting a three run home run over the fence on field #4 and a double, Not to forget our all-star MF George Groves with three hits, double, triple and single, Eric Gottlieb, Dave Frayne and Joe Grines each had two hits.
Editor's Note: George plays Mid Field.
Game Reports For 8/12/2025
Devils 18 Classics 11
You never know when guys come to play how they will play…. Well, today, The Devils came out to play… With an 18-11 victory, the team played great defense and offense. Derek Foster, our backup pitcher, pitched a great game and also hit an in the park grand slam to keep the Devils ahead.
Many double plays by the defense helped win the game. Dave Bushar led the team and went 5-5, while Roy Barlow and Jeff Hooker each went 4-5. Larry Restivo, John Salmon, and Gene Reeber went 3-4, while Tom Jakubowski went 2-3. Ray Morris, our pitcher will be out probably until the playoffs….wishing him a speedy recovery. Great to have Wayne Haller back at shortstop.
Wildcats 5 Wolfpack 2
In a Low Scoring Game with Good Defense Played by both Teams the Wildcats were able to come out on Top 5-2,the Game Started with the Wolfpack only Fielding 10 Players for the First couple of Innings until their 11th Guy showed up, by then the Wildcats had a 3-0 Lead but after another couple of Innings the Wolfpack were down to 10 Players again as they had a Player not able to Finish the Game. I have no Idea who had Hits for the Wildcats or How many Hits they had but I do know that in the 2nd inning We had 7 Guys Bat and Scored 3 Runs and in the 4th Inning We 8 Guys Bat and didn’t Score a Single Run How’s that Possible You ask well the Scorekeeper kept the 5th inning Score in the 4th Inning Column so only 4 Guys Batted in each inning. As You should already know by now the 6th Inning was in the 5th Inning and the 7th inning was in the 6th Inning (a little confused are we) Welcome to WILDCATS WORLD HAHAHAHA
Congratulations to the Wolfpack on a “WELL PLAYED GAME WHILE BEING SHORTHANDED”
A tough game between the Cats and the Pack. The Wolfpack had only 10 players and did their best to make the most of the situation. The Wildcats jumped on the Pack in the second inning for 3 runs mostly due to four fielding errors. The game then remained scoreless until the bottom of the 6th when Mark Azzaro and Ron Mangini hit back to back doubles for the Wolfpack's first run. Dave Noa, Brian Donocuff and Judy Agasar then pushed across the 2nd run of the inning for the Pack, but the rally was cut short with a Pack player being thrown out at home in a very close call. The Wildcats scored single runs in the top of the 6th and 7th making the score 5-2 going into the bottom of the 7th. The Wolfpack tried to mount a new rally getting 2 men on base but the Wildcat's defense played well, quashing the rally. For the Wolfpack, Louie De Palma pitched a good game being let down by fielding errors and poor base running. Mark Azzaro, David Noa and Brian Donocuff made several great fielding plays to hold down the Wildcat's from scoring any more than their 5 runs.....it was a tough loss for the Wolfpack who will try to man a complete team Thursday and bounce back.
Eagles 10 Panthers 5
The Eagles started early by scoring 6 runs in the first 2 innings while the Panthers scored 3 in the second inning and added 3 more runs in the fourth inning to make it a very close game. With the Eagles leading 6 to 5 going into the fifth inning. The Eagles then scored 1 in the fifth and added 3 more in the sixth while holding the Panthers scoreless the last 3 innings to come away with a 10 to 5 win. The eagles were led by Clete Mahoney who had 3 hits including 2 doubles and a Walk. The Eagles also had 5 players with 2 hits including Gene Corrado, Franco Folda, Rich Dempsey, Tom Boyle and Tom Boyce. The defense was led by Clete Mahoney who made several running catches in the outfield while the infield defense was led by Frank Glauser, Franco Folda and Tom Boyce who all played good defense and were able to hold down the top of the Panthers lineup.
Editor's Note: I suspect that the one of the reported Panther 3 run innings was really a 2 run inning.
The Eagles won 10 to 5 over the Panthers. Blow by blow: Eagles scored 2 runs bottom of 1st. Panthers scored 3 top of 2nd, with Eagles scoring 4 in bottom of 2nd. Defenses held until the top of 4th, Panthers scored 2. The Eagles scored 1 in bottom of the 5th and 3 in bottom of 6th. Walks seem to play a part of the game for both sides, hurting Panthers more.
The Panthers had 15 hits, scoring 5 runs. On a technicality, Mike Segal had 3 hits, instead of 2, one being counted after an interference call on a Panther player, who was called out, with the batter awarded a hit (baseball rules), and went on to score 2 runs. Other noteworthy, Dale Cassidy-2 hit, Craig Neiderpreum 2 hits and 2 RBI's, Augie Rosenblatt 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's, Mike Aversa scored 2 runs. Hitman Jim Swiderski had a hit with an RBI, Jim Klemick, Ken Riess and Bob Dougherty also had a hit a piece.
Starr 7 Blues Brothers 3
Starr played a great defensive game with Larry Levin, Terry Klein, Terry Abrams, Ron Fein and Billy Schwartz turning in exceptional plays. Nine of the 11 players for Starr went 2/3. Both teams were short key players, so Starr upset the better team. Billy Schwartz and Wayne Heaton pitched quality ball not giving up a walk. Harvey Harris umpired a good game & both teams' camaraderie is what makes our league special. Thanks again to Craig Wright and the ground crew for their work on the fields.
The Legends and Masters division leaders Starr and Blue Brothers met with Starr winning 7-3. Blues Brothers were held scoreless in their half of the 1st inning. Starr scored 2 runs in their half. Starr scored a single run in both the 2nd and 3rd inning. Blues Brothers scored 2 runs in the 3rd on consecutive hits from Butch Bodenheimer, Ed Brandriff, Jack Donahue and Paul Stetsko. Starr added 3 more runs in the bottom of the 5th. Blue Brothers started a rally in the 6th inning but a few great defensive plays by the Starr outfield halted the rally, limiting the Blues Brothers to a single run. The Blues Brothers were led by 5 players with 2 hits each. Jack Donahue, Paul Stetsko, Joe Mursch, Monroe Weingarten and Wayne Heaton.
Flames 7 Blue Jays 6
The Flames scored a walk-off win over the Blue Jays 7-6 in a tight game. The game went back and forth and back and forth and forth and back and forth. The Blue Jays scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead (back). The Flames went ahead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning (forth). The Blue Jays matched that with three runs on their own in the top of the fourth inning (back). The Flames tied it up with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning (forth). The Flames went ahead with one run in the bottom of the sixth inning (forth again). The Blue Jays tied it in the top of the seventh inning (back). In the bottom of the seventh inning, John Mack lined a single to left field, scoring Kevin Grevera with the winning run (forth) with two outs. Craig Wright continued to blaze in the leadoff spot with three hits, a walk, and two runs scored. Craig also tracked down multiple fly balls in right field having been moved there due to the Blue Jays right field power hitters. Russ Dorrycott had three hits and three RBI's. Kevin Culp and John Mack each contributed two hits. The bottom of the Flames order was key to the victory. Lee Jaslow singled and scored the Flames first run in the third inning. Bill Russell and Warren Fuchs combined for the go ahead sixth run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bill singled with two outs. Warren followed with his own single and Bill circled the bases on Warren's single and some overthrows. Bill was heard after the play asking if the defibrillator was self-serve! The Flames overcame four errors by their shortstop who played that position like he hadn't played it for three weeks! The Flames missed Jack Galloway who was gracious enough to play for the shorthanded Classics for their game. Also many thanks to Hal Katz for filling in as an umpire allowing us to play five 9AM games to avoid heat cancellations of late games.
The bad news Blue Jays lost their third consecutive 1 run game after being burned by the Flames 7 to 6.
It was a well played close game from start to finish by both teams. After holding the powerful Flames lineup scoreless in the first the Jays jumped ahead with 2 runs in the top of the second only to be overtaken with 3 Flame runs in the bottom of the third. The birds bounced back with 3 runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5 to 3 lead but the Flames once again bounced back with 2 in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game and then added a run in the sixth to take a 6 to 5 lead. The bluebirds tied it up in the top of the seventh but a two out single by John Mack drove in Kevin Grevera for a 7 to 6 Flames win.
Dick Tosti and Jim O'Brien (2 doubles) led the blue offense both going 3 for 3. Rich Pich pitched well and chipped in with 2 hits including a booming double. Curtis Bragg, Tony Baccari (double), Jeff Blank (double), Lee Bullman (double), Ken Mealey, Del kates and Bob Silvester all chipped in with one hit.
Thanks go to Hal Katz who, not quite ready to play, did a great job filling in as the league's fifth umpire of the day.
Game Reports For 8/7/2025
Blues Brothers 5 Blue Jays 4
In a game that was scoreless after four innings on Field # 5, renamed Field # 1, the Blues Brothers squeaked out a 5 to 4 victory over the Blue Jays.
In the top of the fifth inning with one out Freddie Eberhart reached first base on a fielder's choice. The next batter Monroe Weingarten hit an infield single to the right side and the throw to first base went into the right infield corner. Using his blazing speed Freddie rounded second base, headed for third and his base coach yelled at him to sprint for home. Freddie was safe and refused oxygen in the dugout, His teammates congratulated Freddie for scoring the first run of the game. With Monroe Weingarten also running during all the commotion, he ended up on third base. Butch Bodenheimer then had his first hit, in August, which was an RBI, to make the score 2 to zero.
The Blue Jays came back scoring one run in the fifth inning after a Jim O'Brien double and two infield outs. Jim was 3 for 3 in this game.
In the top of the sixth inning, Jack Donohue had a single followed by a single by Ted Henritzy. Tom Riether then blasted a three-run home off the scoreboard in left center field, making the score 5 to 1. The Blue Jays kept at it by adding three runs in the bottom of the sixth making the score 5 to 4. It took a double play in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the game and secure the Blues Brothers win.
Tom Riether had three hits for the winning team. Ed Brandriff had two hits as did Bill Krieger and Jack Donohue. Wayne Heaton, Butch Brodenheimer, Fred Eberhardt, Ted Henritzy, Monroe Weingarten and Charlie Whitaker all had one hit each for the Blues Brothers.
The Blue Jays started slow playing the Blues Brothers for the first time in franchise history. That wasn't a problem for the birds because the Blues Brothers also started slow as neither team managed to score until the fifth inning. The Brothers posted 2 runs while the Jays could only manage 1. In the sixth inning with 2 brothers on base Tom Riether hit a line drive that bounced off the scoreboard in left center. The bluebirds bounced back with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score 5 to 4.
It ended there with both teams playing strong defense in the seventh. With two on and one out in the bottom of the seventh the hopes for an upset were ended with a double play. Both teams played well and the jays matched up well with the frontrunners.
Dick Tosti and Del Kates both played a strong defensive game keeping the birds in the game early. Jim O'Brien led the jays offense going 3 for 3 with a double and a run scored. Tony Baccari and Bill Matlack both chipped in with 2 hits, while Rich Pich, Lee Bullman, Ken Mealey, Bob Silvester and Howard Barman all had a hit.
Wildcats 7 Classics 6
In a Game that was too close for Comfort the Wildcats put up 4 First Inning Runs as the 1st
6 Batters all Reached Base on Hits one being a Triple by Bill Jones but in the Top of the Third with the Bases loaded and 1 Run in up stepped a Batter who has been known to get a Hit every now and then and proceeded to Hit the Ball over the Leftfield Fence and DEEP into the Trees to ERASE the 4-0 Lead to give the Classics the Lead at 5-4 no it wasn’t Tom Delaney that Hit the Ball He plays for the Wildcats and was Pitching at the Time. The Hitter was Jack McNulty one of the Quietest Guys in the League and has been known to Hit the Ball over the Fence every now and then,Jack was actually the First Player in our League that I saw Hit it over the Fence and UNFORTUNATELY I was Pitching that Time also !!! The Classics would add a Run in the Top of the 5th to make the Score 6-4 in Favor of the Classics but with 2 Outs and nobody on Base in the Bottom of the 5th Carl Weigand would get an Infield Hit followed by Singles from Papa John and Kevin Oliver and Bill Jones 2nd Triple of the Game to give the Wildcats the Lead at 7-6, The Classics came to Bat in the 7th and the 1st 2 Batters were erased on a Double Play then the next Batter Singled and with 2 outs the next Batter came to the Plate and into the On Deck Circle walked Jack McNulty I thought of calling a Time out and having Our Team say the Rosary or at least a Couple of Hail Mary’s but someone up there was looking down on us Today as the Batter Popped up to the Middle Fielder and I thanked God that I didn’t have to Pitch to McNulty again Today
Our Congratulations to The Classics who Played a Great Game being a Man Short having to Play with 10 Players Today !!!
By the way Bills 2 Triples COMBINED didn’t Travel Half the Distance as Jack's Grand Slam
The Classics played short handed with 10 players but turned in a good showing. The team turned 3 double plays 2 started by Jack McNulty and 1 by Eric Gottlieb. The Wildcats only scored in 2 innings and so did the Classics but the Wildcats held on to a 7-6 victory.
On the hitting front Jack McNulty hit a GRAND SLAM over the fence and had one more hit, Eric Suber 3 hits, Frank Verano, Eric Gottlieb and Mark Jerdan had 2 hits each.
Flames 12 Eagles 4
The Flames offense began the game blazing with five runs in the top of the first inning in a 12-4 victory over the shorthanded Eagles. John Mack led the offense with a triple among his three hits and he also drove in three runs. Bill Russell matched John's three RBI's with his two hits. Bob Gaines drove in two runs in the first inning rally with a triple. Craig Wright, Kevin Culp, Russ Dorrycott, and Lee Jaslow all contributed two hits including the Flames third triple of the game from Kevin Culp. The Flames infield defense turned two double plays and even tried to turn another double play in one inning without a runner on first base. The midfielder was too surprised by the throw to complete the single play. Jack Galloway was loaned to the Eagles and played a strong game at first base thwarting his usual teammates with multiple grabs and scoops.
The Eagles played the flames and started slow and stayed slow and finished slow. (You get the idea) As the Flames burned out the Eagles with a 12 to 4 win. The Flames scored 6 runs before the Eagles scored 1 in the third inning and the Flames scored 6 more over the next 4 innings as the Eagles managed to score only 3 runs for the final score where the Eagles could not keep up with the Flames . The Eagles were led by Craig Kloss who had 3 hits including a double and Rich Dempsey who had 2 hits including a triple. Clete Mahoney and Tom Boyle each had 2 hits as the eagles were burnt and cremated by the Flames. Congratulations to the Flames as they completely outplayed the Eagles. I want to thank Jack Galloway for subbing for the Eagles at first base.
Starr 15 Panthers 2
A tough recapitulation of a one-sided game. Starr won 15 to 2 over the Panthers. Blow by blow, Starr scored 2 runs in the top of first and 3 in the top of second, followed by 5 in the top of 5th and 5 more in the top of 6th. The Panthers somehow managed to score a run in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of less than stellar play and followed up with another run in the bottom of the 5th when bases were loaded but failed to produce more.
Defensively, surprisingly it was fairly well played. Ken Riess demonstrated speed and catching ability throughout the game. An occasional play in the infield limited further damage. Offensively, believe it or not there were bright spots. Several players had 2 hits apiece, namely Jim Klemick, Ken Riess, Mike Aversa and Augie Rosenblatt.
Wolfpack 13 Devils 0
Louie DePalma ( no not the Louie from the TV show TAXI) and the Wolfpack BE-Deviled the Devils by the score of 13-0. The Devils are a fine team but were missing their starting pitcher and shortstop, like the Wolfpack has been for most of the season. The Pack bats came alive banging out 28 hits being led by Mark Azzaro 4 hits and 6 RBI's, Pete Williamson with 4 hits, Dave Noa with 4 hits, Al Moffa slashed 3 hits, Steve Belenko, Phil Angiolini, Pascal Houcke and Brian Donocuff each had 2 hits while the Italian law firm of De Palma and Mangini each contributed a hit and walks. John Walsh delivered hard hit balls to reach once while Judy Agasar worked out two walks and Ken Radon one. The Wolfpack defense was sparkling, making NO errors the entire game with great defensive plays by Dave Noa, Phil Angiolini, Mark Azzaro and Pete Williamson. The Wolfpack is losing
Al Moffa who is being transferred to play for the Classics.....and the team wants to thank him for his contributions and fine play. The entire team wants him back since he is such a great fit to our team and injuries continue to mount on Wolfpack players.....We hope the Devils will get their best players back soon.
Game Reports For 8/5/2025
Wildcats 6 Flames 5
In a Game where the Wildcats would Score 3 Runs in the Top of the First Inning and there would be no more Scoring from either Team until the Wildcats would Score 3 more Runs in the Top of the Seventh Inning and take a 6-0 Lead into the Bottom of the INNING but the Flames weren’t “EXTINGUISHED YET” as they would put up 5 Runs of their own in the Bottom of the Seventh and had the Bases Loaded when the Final Out was made. In a Game where both Teams Played Good Defense for the Majority of the Game there was some LOOSE PLAY IN THE SEVENTH INNING BY BOTH TEAMS, Overall both Teams Played really good ball today !!! The Top of the Wildcats Order came through in a “BIG WAY TODAY” going a combined 8 for 9 with 6 Runs Scored Papa John 3 for 3 with 2 Runs, Kevin Oliver 3 for 3 with 2 Runs, Bill Jones 2 for 3 with 2 Runs Four other Wildcats would each have 1 Hit for a Total of 12 Hits !!! The Flames were
MISSING A KEY PLAYER as Tom Cosgrove was a limited Participant in today’s Game Catching One inning and He also played the Middle for Possibly 1 inning and went out for another inning and had to take Himself out of the Game and Tom was only able to Bat once !!! When a Team is missing a Player of Toms Talent and Ability even with a full Team it’s like their Playing a Man Short not taking a Shot at any of their Players but Tom Cosgrove is like Chicken Man He’s Everywhere!!! Here’s hoping Tom gets back to Full Strength and Playing Injury Free !!! Congratulations go Out to the Flames for playing with that never Quit ATTITUDE !!!
There wasn't even a spark in the Flames offense during the first six innings of their 6-5 loss to the Wildcats. Tom Delaney pitched a strong game for the Wildcats retiring the side in order once and facing only four hitters in four other innings, Behind 6-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Flames rallied for 5 runs and the inning ended with the bases loaded and winning and tying runs on second and third base. Craig Wright and Jim Stabene led the offense with two hits each. Kevin Culp, Kevin Grevera, Russ Dorrycott, John Mack, Bob Gaines, Jack Galloway, Ron Cohen, Warren Fuchs, and Lee Jaslow all chipped in one hit. Kevin Grevera filled in well again at shortstop starting an inning ending double play keeping the game close.
Editor Note: Who the %^*& is chicken man? Are we talking about Wade Boggs?
Blues Brother 9 Devils 4
After a motivational speech by Freddie Eberhart in the dugout before the game the Blues Brothers defeated the Devils 9 to 4 in the 10:30 AM game on Field # 3.
The Blues Brothers scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a single by Ed Brandriff and a Tom Riether infield single followed by some fielding errors by the Devils which allowed Ed and Tom to score. The Devils followed up scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game.
The Blues Brothers scored one more run in the top of the third inning on a double by Ed Brandriff followed by an RBI single by Jack Donohue.
The Blues Brothers broke the game open scoring two more runs in the top of the fourth inning on singles by Joe Mursch and Bill Krieger, followed by an RBI single by Wayne Heaton. Franklin Smith drove in the fifth run on a fielder's choice RBI
The Blues Brothers scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning. The first run of the inning came on another hit by Ed Brandriff, followed by Paul Stetsko reaching base on a fielding error, followed by an RBI single by Jack Donohue. Tom Riether then slammed a three run inside the park home run to right field.
The Devils scored 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and were shut out in the seventh inning making the final score 9 to 4.
Ed Brandriff had three hits for the Blues Brothers. Ted Henritzy, Bill Krieger, and Wayne Heaton had two hits for the winning team.
Devils keep trying but come up short again scoring only 4 runs against the Blue Jays 9 runs.
Roy Barlow, Larry Restivo, and Tom Jakubowski each went 2-2….
Ray Morris had to quit batting as he is still having issues with his Achilles injury
We also had a full roster today for the first time……
Wolfpack 6 Starr 5
It was a tight well played game between these two teams but the Wolfpack held on for a razor thin 6-5 victory. The Pack scored a single run in the bottom of the first with key hits from Phil Angiolini ( 3 for 3) and Mark Azzaro ( 2 for 3) and held Starr scoreless until the top of the 4th inning when they scored 3 runs. Wolfpack slashed 4 hits for another 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th making the score 3-3 but Starr scored another 2 runs in the 4th to take back the lead. In the bottom of the 6th, clutch hitting by Steve Belenko (2-3), Phil Angiolini , a booming triple by Mark Azzaro and a frozen rope single by Al Moffo scored 3 runs making the score 6-5 going into the top of the 7th. Wolfpack pitcher ,Lou DePalma, threw strikes and the defense stiffened delivering a Wolfpack victory 6-5. Pete Williamson (LF - 1 hit and RBI) , Dave Noa (Mid) and Brian Donocuff (2B) played great defense contributing to the victory. Pascal Houcke, Judy Agasar and Ron Mangini also helped the Wolfpack offense in a great team victory.
Score for Starr vs Wolfpack. The Wolfpack jumped out to a 1 to 0 leading the first inning. In the top of the 4th Starr scored 3 runs,to take the lead. Wolfpack answered with 2 in the bottom of the 4th to knot up the score 3 to 3. In the 6th Starr plated 2 for a temporary lead as the Wolfpack scored 3 for the final of 6 to 5 Wolfpack victory. The Wolfpack played great defense all game to shut down any rallies by the Starr team. Offensively for Starr, John Rozolis was a perfect 3 for 3. Chipping in with 2 hits was Larry Levin, and Ron Fein. One hit for Terry Klein, Keith Klassic and Bill Schwartz.
Classics 7 Panthers 4
An uninspired outcome with The Classics winning 7 - 4. The highlights of the game were Jack McNulty's solid play at shortstop, making many catches and throwing out a Panther( Ron Tuminski ) at home plate to kill a rally.
Being generous, it was a defensive struggle between two matched teams. Of note the Panthers managed to get 14 hits. Dale Cassidy, Mike Segal, Ed Occhi and Craig Niederpreum had 2 hits apiece. Ken Riess shuffled players around and taught a lesson on player management with more than half the team physically impaired. Hidden in the difficulties of the game were a group of players Mike Aversa, Augie Rosenblatt, Jim Klemick, Terry Gallagher, Doug Rutter, Bob Doughtery, Jim Swiderski and Ron Tuminski who played their hearts out.
The Classics scored two runs in the 1st inning, two runs in the 3rd, two runs in the 5th and one run in the 6th. We need to work on leaving too many players on the bases. The Panthers stayed close all game and anyone could have won the game but the Classics held onto the lead with a 7-4 win.
Outstanding game by Jack McNulty going 4 for 4, Eric Suber and George Groves with a good hitting game with 3 hits each and Eric Gottlieb with 2 hits. On the fielding: Good fielding for George (snow cone) Groves went back on a popup and made a snow cone glove catch, Eric Gottlieb holding his own at 3rd filling in for Dave Simone and Darryl Puzan measuring up a fly ball and had a shoestring catch.
Eagles 9 Blue Jays 8
The Blue Jays and the Eagles started out looking good for the Eagles who scored 4 runs in the first 3 innings while holding the Blue Jays scoreless going into the fifth inning but then the Blue Jays scored 3 more in the sixth inning while holding the eagles scoreless. With the Blue Jays holding a 8 to 4 lead going into the seventh inning. The Eagles held the Blue Jays scoreless and the Eagles started hitting and put some hits and with a couple of walks were able to score 5 runs to eke out a win over the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays and the Eagles seem to always play very close and entertaining games. The Blue Jays are a very well coached team and one tough opponent. We respect their no quit mentally as it's always a nerve breaking game. The eagles were led by Craig Kloss with 4 hits and some good defense in left field and Tom Boyce who also had 4 hits including a clutch single to score 2 runs in the first inning. Rich Dempsey had 3 hits including a double. Joe Travato had 2 walks and a single. Clete Mahoney had 2 hits and made some impressive catches in the outfield. Frank Glauser. Jack Galloway filled in a depleted roster and fit the bill by driving in the game winning run.
The Blue Jays couldn't get the offense started until the fifth inning. Tailing 4 to 0. The birds put a dent in the scoreboard after walks to Rich Pich and Del Kates, Ken Mealey, Bob Silvester, Bill Matlack, Rich Dickson and Curtis Bragg all singled to put the birds ahead 5 to 4. The top of the order added three runs in the top of the sixth inning as Tony Baccari got things going with a double. After walks to Dick Tosti and Jeff Blank, Jim O'Brien drove in 2 runs with a single and Rich Pich drove in a run on a fielder's choice. That put the jays up 8 to 4. The Jays shut down the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth but promptly fell apart in the bottom of the seventh allowing the Eagles to score 5 runs and walk off with a 9 to 8 win. Credit to the Eagles who posted 5 runs in the seventh without making an out.
Dick Tosti played a strong defensive game at shortstop for the jays. Curtis Bragg (2 for 3 with a walk) and Bob Silvester (2 for 2 with a walk) were the only blue birds with multiple hits.
Game Reports For 7/31/2025
Blue Jays 13 Devils 10
The Blue Jays got contributions from every member of their lineup as they came back from an 8 to 2 deficit to banish the Devils 13 to 10. With the birds leading 2 to 0 after 2 innings the Devils roared back with 4 runs in the third and fourth innings to take an 8 to 2 lead. The jay birds responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth (after a timely Dick Tosti double) to tie the game at 8. The Devils weren't ready to quit as they bounced back with 2 runs in the top of the sixth but the Jays put up a rare (for them) 5 run inning in the bottom of the sixth and then held on for the win.
Every bluebird had at least 1 hit Jeff Blank and Ken Mealey were both 3 for 3. Steve Griffin was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Dick Tosti went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's. Lee Bullman, Rich Pich and Bob Silvester (2 RBI's) all had 2 hits. The contributions from the middle and bottom of the order paved the way for the Jays win.
The blue defense was led by Dick Tosti who played an excellent game at shortstop. Dick also took a relay from left fielder, Tony Baccari, and fired a rocket home to Bob Silvester to gun a runner out at home. Jim O'Brien made a shoestring catch early in the game to steal a hit from Larry Restivo and made a snow cone catch on a fly ball from Tom Sikora with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning.
Thanks to Jack Zupan who I volunteered to umpire the game.
The Devils played great until the 6th inning when the Blue Jays got 5 runs in the 6th inning, and the Devils couldn’t come back losing 13-10
Good game all around with Derek Foster and Ray Morris each going 4-4. Dave Bushar, Larry Restivo, and John Salmon each went 3-4.
Devils just can't finish off the way we started……..but that’s softball.
Blues Brothers 9 Flames 8 (8 Innings)
The Blues Brothers defeated the Flames 9 to 8 at Firefighters Park in an eight inning game. Pitcher Wayne Heaton hit an RBI, two out single with bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning to hand the Flames their first loss of the season.
The Blues Brothers took a two to one lead after one inning on an RBI double by Tom Riether scoring Paul Stetsko who got on first on a fielder's choice. Joe Mursch hit an RBI single, scoring Tom.
The Blues Brothers scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Franklin Smith scoring Wayne Heaton who reached base on a single. The 4th run of the game was driven in by Freddie Eberhardt who reached first on a fielder's choice.
The Blues Brothers exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third inning on RBI singles by Tom Riether, Jack Donohue, and Joe Mursch. The fourth run came on an infield error, but Bill Krieger gets credit for the RBI.
The Flames scored a run in the fourth inning, 2 runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 8 to 8. The Blues Brothers had a rough 6th inning fielding, which helped plate the four runs for the Flames.
With a ghost runner on second base to start the bottom of the eighth inning Tom Riether got an intentional walk. Jack Donohue got an unintentional walk to load the bases. With a force out at home, a strikeout, Wayne Heaton decided to get the walk off single to win the game.
Ed Brandriff and Wayne Heaton had three hits for the winning team. Paul Stetsko, Tom Riether, Jack Donohue, Joe Mursch had two hits in the game. Charlie (thank you for your after the game pretzels), Franklin Smith, Fred Eberhardt, Monroe Weingarten, and Butch Bodenheimer all had a hit each for the Blues Brothers.
The Flames and Blues Brothers had their second closely contested 9-8 game with the Blues Brothers coming out on top scoring the tie-breaking run in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Blues Brothers jumped out to an 8-1 lead after three innings through the combination of timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and some uncharacteristic fielding misplays by the Flames. However the Flames came back to tie the game 8-8 in the top of the sixth inning with four runs after one run in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth. Both teams successfully employed strategic walks in the seventh to load the bases and set up force plays at any base. In the top of the seventh, Bob Gaines was intentionally walked and that was followed by an inning ending flyout to left field. In the bottom of the seventh, Paul Stetsko was intentionally walked followed by a screaming line drive inning ending out to Ron Cohen at third base. The Flames could not score the ghost runner in the top of the 8th and Wayne Heaton's base loaded single with two outs won the game for the Blues Brothers. The Flames offense was led by Craig Wright, Kevin Grevera, Bob Gaines, and Jim Stabene delivering three hits each (two doubles for Kevin). Jack Galloway and Lee Jaslow both had two hits with Lee driving in two runs.
Panthers 11 Wolfpack 8
The Wolfpack started out strong defensively , while trailing 1 nothing going into the top of the 3rd, Offense got going and they scored 5 runs to take a short lived 5 - 1 lead. The lead lasted until the bottom of the third when the Panthers came alive and scored 4 runs to tie the game. The Wolfpack looked like they were going to blow the game open but only managed 1 run in the top of the 4th. The Panthers scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th, and another 3 runs again in the 6th inning. A tense top of the 7th, when the Wolfpack scored 2 but had threatened to score more.
The Panther defense was led by Dale Cassidy and Bob Dougherty. Offensively, 21 hits lead to the 13 runs. Dale Cassidy, Ed Occhi, Ken Riess and Bob Dougherty had 3 hits apiece. Weak hitting Mike Segal and Jim the "Hitman" Swiderski had 2 apiece with Jim throwing in a double to break things up.
Finally, it really was a well-played and exhausting game. From the Panthers perspective, half the team looked like the walking wounded with Augie Rosenblatt, Ed Occhi, Jim Klemick, Doug Rutter and Terry Gallagher impaired to go with their visually impaired manager.
The temperature was very hot, and the game was also as the Panthers and Wolfpack battled for 7 innings. In the first, Panthers took advantage of a walk and fielding error to make it 1-0. The Wolfpack jumped on the Panthers for 5 runs in the top of the 3rd, but the Panthers responded with 4 to tie in the bottom of the 3rd and added another 3 runs in the 5th to take a commanding 8-6 lead. The Wolfpack offense was shut down in innings 5 and 6
as the Panthers banged out another 3 runs in the same innings. Going into the 7th inning the Wolfpack was down 11-6 and they started to rally but the defense stiffened shutting down the rally giving the Panthers a victory 11-8. The Wolfpack offense was led by Steve Belenko , Mark Azzaro and Al Moffo each with 3 hits. It was a very competitive game and the two secondary pitchers for the Wolfpack gave everything they had.
Starr 11 Wildcats 4
Starr scored 1 in the second inning and 2 in the 3rd to jump out to a 3 to 0 score. The Wildcats scored 2 in the fourth to get to a 3 to 2 score. In the sixth Starr scored 2 and in the 7th Starr tacked on 6 more for a commanding 11 to 2 score. The Wildcats added 2 in the 7th for a final of 11 to 4 win for Starr. Offensively Keith Klasic had 3 hits. Chipping in with 2 hits were Larry Levin, John Rozolis, Terry Abrams, Bill Schwartz, Alan Massey, and Rich Waloff. Terry Klein, Ron Fein, Jay Passman and Harris Braunstein had 1 hit.
Before the Game Started the Wildcats were already at a “DISADVANTAGE” Jerry Barsky wasn’t there to “LOSE THE GAME” for STARR so in stepped the Brains of the Organization Bill Schwartz to Lead the Team to “VICTORY” the Game was close after 4 Innings with Starr on Top 3-2, then Starr proceeded to Score 2 Runs in the 6th Inning then added another 6 Runs in the Top of the 7th the Wildcats tried to make a Game of it by Scoring 2 Runs in the Bottom and had the Bases Loaded when Carl Weigand hit a line drive headed to Left Center but unfortunately John Rozolis was able to pull it down to End the Game. The Final Score really didn’t indicate how Close the Game was, both Teams made mistakes unfortunately the Wildcats made a few more than Starr !!!
For the Wildcats “Wooden Bat” Mike Weidmann was a perfect 3 for 3 on the Day on 3 Hard Hit Balls to the Outfield a couple of other Guys were 2 for 3 but Mike deserves to be Acknowledged !!!
Congratulations to Starr on a well Played Game
Classic 9 Eagles 4
This game was played on a very very hot morning. Good, hitting, fielding and pitching from the Classics team.
George Groves, Jack McNulty and Dave Frayne all had three hits but Frank Verano topped them all with four hits. Classics won 9-5.
The eagles started out by scoring 3 runs thanks to Rich Dempsey hitting a bases clearing double with the bases loaded to give the Eagles a 3 to 1 lead after the first inning. Then the Eagles stopped hitting and would score only 1 more run in the seventh inning thanks to Clete Mahoney's running. But the Eagles were no match for the Classics as they scored at least 1 run in 5 of the 7 innings to come away with a 9 to 4 win over the Eagles. The Eagles only had 9 hits and were led by Gene Corrado who had 3 hits and Franco Folda who had 2 hits. Franco Folda played very well at shortstop and Tom Boyce made a nice running catch at second base. Clete Mahoney made a nice throw to second base from left field to get a runner out and end an inning. Gary Jones made a nice catch of a well hit ball in right field. All in all it was not near enough to overcome the Classics who were no match for the Eagles.
Game Reports For 7/24/2025
Flames 15 Classics 4
The Flames flashed late offense to pull away from the Classics in a 15-4 victory. Jim Stabene took advantage of moving up in the batting order with four hits and an RBI. Bill Russell, Russ Dorrycott, and Tom Cosgrove each had three hits with Russ having a double and driving in four runs. John Mack had three RBI's. Kevin Culp pitched his usual walkless game and scored four runs with two hits and two walks. Ron Cohen had two hits while switch hitting. Bob Gaines and Warren Fuchs also had two hits each. The Flames loaned Craig Wright to the Classics for the game. Craig made multiple plays in right field enduring boos from his Flames teammates after each play. In his post-game press conference, Craig indicated the booing didn't bother him; it just made him play harder!
The Classics playing shorthanded today did their best against the Flames but the Classics went down in flames. The Classics did not have their best day hitting or fielding. John Breig did a great job pitching. He told me he did not like the adjective I used in the last write up, only us great. Our main hitting came from Jack McNulty, home run over the fence and two other hits and Eric Suber with multiple hits.
Blues Brothers 7 Wildcats 3
The Blues Brothers beat the Wildcats 7 to 3 in the first game ever played on Field # 6. Thanks to the grounds crew for getting the field in great playing shape and Jim for getting us an umpire for the game.
The Wildcats scored one run in the first inning but the Blues Brothers answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the first with singles by Paul Stetsko and Ted Henritzy. Cleanup hitter Tom Riether hit an RBI single scoring Paul, followed by Jack Donohue, hitting an RBI single scoring Ted.
The Blues Brothers added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning with a single by Monroe Weingarten, followed by an RBI single by Paul Stetsko. Tom Riether brought in Paul with an RBI double.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning aided by an infield fly rule call that was then changed to not an infield fly rule in the middle of the play.
With the score 4 to 3, in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Blues Brothers had men on first and second with cleanup hitter Tom Riether at the plate. Wildcats Pitcher Tom Delaney threw 4 pitches way out of the strike zone, to Tom Riether loading the bases, with a walk. The next batter Jack Donohue smashed a double picking up 3 RBI's making the score 7 to 3.
There was a little bit of comedy when the game ended with the Wildcats thinking it was only the end of the sixth inning. Their scorekeeper put the 3rd and 4 innings in the same 3rd inning column, in their scorebook. We, the Blues Brothers assured the Wildcats that the top of the 7th inning was completed.
Ed Brandriff, Paul Stetsko, Ted Henritzy, Tom Riether, Jack Donohue, Joe Mursch and Franklin Smith all had two hits for the winning team.
In a well Played Game by both Teams the Blues Brothers came out on Top 7-3,Costly Base Running mistakes by the Wildcats didn’t help matters any the Wildcats did have 13 Hits Led by Papa John going 3 for 4 followed by Scott Comer, Howard Wible, Mike Weidmann, Steve Scheele, and JohnMcCann all going 2 for 3 the rest of the Team was a Combined 0-13
The Wildcats couldn’t even keep the Scorebook Correctly (Hahahaha) keeping the 3rd and 4th Innings In the same Column
The Wildcats were taking the Field for the Bottom of the 6th when the Game was actually OVER !!!
Our Congratulations go out to the Blues Brothers for a well played Game
Blue Jays 7 Starr 6
The Blue Jays battled Starr in a well played game by both teams. The Jays jumped out early with 3 runs in the first inning, but birds aren't supposed to jump, so Starr scored 4 runs in the first to leapfrog them. The bluebirds posted 2 more runs in the third inning, when Starr walked Jeff Blank to get to Jim O'Brien. The strategy didn't pan out and the jays jumped ahead 5 to 4. There is something about jumping birds that the Starr players couldn't tolerate so they scored 2 more runs in their half of the third inning to reclaim the lead at 6 to 5. Jeff Blank's two out single in the fifth inning scored Steve Griffin to tie the game at 6. The Jays jumped ahead for the third and final time in the top of the sixth inning when Bill Matlack looped the ball behind second base to score Del Kates with the eventual winning run.
Steve Griffin was the defensive star for the Blue Jays with steady play at second base and an outstanding over the shoulder catch on a ball looped to right field. Curtis Bragg made a nice catch in left center charging in to steal a hit, and Dick Tosti played a strong shortstop and gunned the ball home to Howard Barman to nail courtesy runner John Rozolis at home and complete a double play. Rich Pich pitched well and held a strong Starr lineup at bay.
Tony "The Man" Baccari led the offensive going 4 for 4 with a triple. Jim O'Brien was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI's. Chipping in with 2 hits each were Curtis Bragg, Jeff Blank (2 for 2 with a walk) and Ken Mealey.
The Blue Jay's plated 3 runs in the first and Starr answered back with 4 runs for a 4 to 3 lead. Top of the third Blue Jays scored 2 and Starr answered back with 2 for a 6 to 5 lead. In the top of the 5th and 6th Blue Jays scored 1 run each inning for a final of 7 to 6 Blue Jays win. Some spectacular plays by the Blue Jays completely shut down the Starr offensive. Their infield played like a professional team with 4 great fielding plays defensively Starr never showed up committing 10 errors. Offensively Keith Klassic was 3 for 3. Two hits by Larry Levin, John Rozolis, Terry Abrams, and Spencer Synderman. Chipping in with 1 hit was Terry Klein, Ron Fein, Bill Schwartz, Jay Passman, Howard Borochaner and Dave Detweiler. It appears our team age has caught up with us as it appears the team forgot to bring their gloves to field with. Congratulations to Jim O'Brien's Blue Jay's for a great win coming from behind.
Panthers 25 Devils 19 (8 Innings)
The Devils brought the heat and chased the Panthers for 6 innings before grabbing the Panthers' tail, tying the game in the bottom of the 7th at 19 all. In the top of the 8th Panthers ran away with 6 runs. They ended the Devils charge with a double play in the bottom of the 8 inning. The game ended at 11:15 with Ed Occhi being the winning pitcher. He must have thrown 500 pitches for a complete game (Amen). The Devils played with 3 outfielders for all 8 innings. Due to an injury, the Panthers played with 3 outfielders from the 4 inning on. Hope Augie is alright.
Hitters for the day:
Dale Cassidy 5 for 6. with 5 runs
Ed Occhi. 5 for 6 with 1 double and 3 runs
Jim Swiderski. 4 for 4 with 3 runs
Jim Klemick 4 for 6 with 4 runs
Terry Gallagher 3 for 4 with a double
Ken Riess. 3 for 6 with 1 double and 1 run

Ron Tuminski 3 for 4 with 1 run
Craig Niederpruem. 2 for 4 with 2 runs
Augie Roseblatt 2 for 3 with 2 runs
Doug Rutter. 1 for 5 with 3 runs.
Editor's Note: (I counted 35 hits and they only scored 25 runs? Pathetic! Also thank you Hal for letting me volunteer you to ump this game.)
It was a very close game today, the Devils playing shorthanded, with the score 19-19 in the 7th inning.
The Panthers scored 6 runs in the top of the 8th, but the Devils were held off. Score 25-19.
The Devils had a chance to win but came up short in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Derek Foster had to pitch again with Ray Morris out with an injury.
Roy Barlow and Gerry Barlow both went 3-3 while Jeff Hooker went 3-4. Gene Reeber, Tom Sikora, and Larry Restivo all went 2-4.
Both teams hit and defense was sometimes missing but all in all a close game.
Eagles 21 Wolfpack 12
The Eagles showed up short on players but didn't come on short at the plate as each player had at least 2 hits. Both teams came out scoring early with the Eagles scoring 5 in the first and the Wolfpack scoring 4 in the first . The Wolfpack then scored 1 in the second inning and 5 runs in the third inning while the eagles only scored 1in the third. With the Wolfpack leading10 to 6 after 3 innings. The Eagles then got going by scoring in every inning including 3 innings where they scored 5 runs while holding the Wolfpack to 2 runs in the last 5 innings, to come away with a 23 to 12 win. The Eagles were led by Clete Mahoney. who had 5 hits in 5 at bats. Rich Dempsey, Franco Folda and Gene Corrado each had 4 hits. Tom Boyce, Gary Jones and Bob Esterly each had 3 hits. Frank Glauser, Tom Boyle and Art Taylor each had 2 hits.
The Eagles clawed the Wolfpack by the score of 21-12 at Firefighters Field. The game started off as a shootout as the Eagles scored 5 in the first and the Pack responded with 4 in the bottom of the inning. The Wolfpack added one run in the second and the Eagles added one in top of the 3rd. The Pack bats exploded with 5 runs on 6 hits in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 9-6 lead. Louie DePalma pitched a solid game for the Pack but their defense fell apart with fielding miscues allowing the Eagles to score 5 runs each in innings 4,5,and 6 building up an almost insurmountable lead going into the bottom of the 7th.....The Pack tried to rally in the bottom of the 7th but could only score two runs. The Wolfpack offense was lead by Steve Belenko going 4-4, Ron Mangini, Phil D'Angiolini, Brian Donocuff each going 3-4, Dave Noa slashing 2 doubles 2-4, Pascal Houcke, Ken Radon, Judy Asagar each had two hits and John Walsh, Louie DePalma and Bart Davidoff each chipped in one hit.......but the offense just could not overcome the Eagles lead.
Game Reports For 7/22/2025
Starr 15 Devils 5
Starr scored 16 runs before the Devils got on the board with 3 runs in the 6th and 2 in the 7th for a 17 to 5 loss to the Starr team. Starr has all 14 players and the bottom 7 players decided to chip in with 9 hits and for the first time this season it was a complete 14 player contribution. Every player had a hit and run scored or an RBI. Offensively Ron Fein had a perfect 4 for 4 game. Chipping in with 3 hits were Terry Klein. 2 hits each for Larry Levin, Keith Klasic (1 was a long blast out of the park 3 run homer), John Rozolis, Spencer Synderman, Dave Detweiler and Jay Passman. 1 hit each by Rich Waloff (2 run RBI hit with the bases loaded and 2 outs), Harris Braunstein, Alan Massey, Bill Schwartz, and Howard Borochaner. Bill Schwartz pitched another great game walking only 1 batter, Larry Restivo who "scared " him.
Well, Starr came out hitting all day long…we did not… Derek Foster came in as our alternate pitcher and pitched a great game, defensively and offensively going 3-3. Gene Reeber and John Salmon each went 2-3, but the hits were just not there today for the Devils. Hopefully we bounce back this Thursday…. The entire Starr lineup hit all day…..
Flames 11 Wolfpack 1
The Flames flashed on both offense and defense in an 11-1 win over the shorthanded Wolfpack. Bob Gaines led the offense with three hits and five RBI's and was quoted in the post-game press conference saying "It's easy to drive in runs when your teammates get on base!". Russ Dorrycott had two hits and two RBI's. Kevin Grevera, Craig Wright, Jack Galloway, and Jim Stabene drove in the other runs as the Flames continued to get contributions up and down the lineup. John Mack smacked two doubles. Craig Wright also had a double among his two hits. Kevin Culp, Jack Galloway, and Tom Cosgrove also each had two hits. Bill Russell and Ron Cohen contributed multiple hits each. Lee Jaslow made multiple plays at second base and Warren Fuchs fired out from behind the plate to throw out Steve Belenko at first on a home plate nubber. The Wolfpack had the play reviewed in the Levittown league office and the play was subsequently ruled a foul ball. It took longer for the Flames to return to the field, then for the inning to end on a line drive out.
The depleted Wolfpack were no competition for the hot Flames losing 11-1. The Wolfpack wishes to thank Tom Delaney who graciously subbed as pitcher for the ailing Ron Miller. Tom pitched his usual solid game but did not receive defensive or offensive support from the Wolfpack. The Wolfpack defense made several fielding miscues and the runners were then driven home by solid Flame hitting. Even with 11 hits, the Wolfpack could not score more than a single run against the tight defense of the Flames especially with a stellar infield. Hopefully, the Wolfpack can return to competitive form once all team members are back.
Wildcats 11 Eagles 5
In a Game where the Wildcats would Score Four Runs in the Top of the First only to have the Eagles put up Three Runs in the Bottom of the First then the Wildcats would Score Two Runs in the Top of the Fourth it was actually a Close Game until the Sixth Inning when the Wildcats would put up Five Runs and kept the Eagles off the Board until they put up Two More Runs in the Bottom of the Seventh for the Final Score of Eleven to Five !!! The Wildcats had Ten Different Players with Hits Today and Seven Different Players Scored at least One Run. ( Billy “The Kid” Howland ) had a couple of Hits and Scored a Couple of Runs He also Pitched a 1-2-3 Second Inning !!!
Congratulations to the Eagles for a Well Played Game and never giving up they Scored Two Runs in the Seventh and had a Couple of Runners on Base when the Final Out of the Game was made.
The Wildcats came out swinging with 4 runs in the first inning but then the Eagles came back with 3 runs and the score remained the same until the fourth inning when the Cats scored 2 more runs. The cats added 5 more runs in the sixth inning while holding the Eagles scoreless to make the score 11 to 3. The Eagles responded with 2 runs in the 7th inning for an 11 to 5 final score.
The Eagles were led by Gene Corrado with 2 hits including a triple. Frank Glauser played excellent defense at 3rd base and had 2 hits. Bob Esterly chipped in with 2 hits.
The Wildcats cats were too much for the Eagles whose offensive and defensive performance was not their best. Congratulations to the Wildcats who played a consistent game on both offense and defense with strong pitching.
Blues Brothers 3 Panthers 1
The Blues Brothers showed the effects of three weeks of no softball games scoring only three runs to defeat the Panthers 3 to 1. The Blues Brothers scored one run in the bottom of the first inning when Paul Stetsko got a one out single. He used his speed and scored from first base, on a deep outfield RBI single by Tom Riether.
The Panthers scored one run in the top of the second inning, but Pitcher Wayne Heaton pitched out of a bases loaded jam after the Panther's run scored.
With no runs scored by either team in the third, fourth and fifth innings, Bill Krieger reached first on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth inning. Andy Cohen then smashed an RBI Double to Left Center scoring Bill. Andy alertly took third on the relay throw. Franklin Smith had an infield RBI single, scoring Andy for the third run.
The Panthers played good defense, pulling off three double plays in the game. Tom Riether and Andy Cohen had two hits each for the winning team.
Ed Brandriff, Joe Mursch, Paul Stetsko and Franklin Smith all had one hit each. Wayne Heaton pitched all seven innings and did not walk a batter.
The Panthers played a great game defensively but had a hard time getting the offense going leaving the bases loaded 2 times with 11 only hits.
Outstanding players for the day were: Jim Klemick 3 for 3, Ed Occhi 2 for 3, Bob Dochertry 2 for 3.
Dale Cassidy, Terry Gallagher, Craig Niederpruem all had 1 hit
Augie (doggy) Rosenblatt also had 1 hit.
Classics 8 Blue Jays 6 (8 Innings)
This was a Classic game. Either team could have won the game. The Classics team led most of the game when the Blue Jays exploded with a 5 run inning and went ahead in the 6th inning. The Classics came back and scored 1 runs to make it a 6-6 tie in the 7th. Extra inning time the Classics scored 2 runs top of the 8th to lead 8-6 and held on to win.
Great team win John Breig pitching a good game and good hitting from the team. Led by Jack McNulty with 3 doubles and Joe Grines with 3 singles. Also adding to the attack was Eric Suber, George Groves, Eric Gottlieb, Dave Frayne each contributing with 2 hits each.
The Blue Jays offense struggled to get going. After tying the game 1 to 1 in the first inning on a Tony Baccari double the Blue Jays gave up single runs in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Meanwhile the blue birds managed to leave 2 runners on base in the second, third, fourth and fifth inning without scoring a run. Trailing 5 to 1 in the bottom of the sixth the jays finally put together the hits needed for a big inning. Howard Barman (infield hit), Steve Griffin (single), Tony Baccari (double), Curtis Bragg (double), Dick Tosti (walk), Jeff Blank (very infield hit) and Jim O'Brien (2 RBI single) all reached base safely but the blue bird fun ended after 5 runs with no one out. The Classics managed to tie the game in the sixth and went on to score 2 runs in the 8th inning to seal the win.
The offensive leaders for the jays were Tony Baccari going 2 for 2 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored, Curtis Bragg was 2 for 2 with a double, a run scored and a walk, Jeff Blank was 2 for 2 with a walk, Jim O'Brien was 2 for 3. Rich Pich, Lee Bullman, Bill Matlack (2 walks), Bob Silvester and Howard Barman all chipped in with one hit. The Classics played very well and deserved the win.
Game Reports For 7/15/2025
Blue Jays 3 Wildcats 2
What could have been the best played game by two teams this season was completely turned upside down when Tony Baccari's brakes failed and he ended up scoring on a single to right field that was hit by Tony Baccari. The faulty brakes broke a 2 to 2 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning and the birds held on to win 3 to 2. The blue birds had many opportunities to break the game open but the Wildcats foiled them by playing great defense and turning 3 double plays. Naturally to return the favor the Blue Jays played excellent defense to foil a few potential Wildcat rallies. The Blue defense was led by Tony Baccari who did an excellent job in left field and Jeff Blank who made all the plays at midfield, many of them in impressive form. Facing the Wildcats, whose roster includes both Carl and Scott, Lee Bullman decided to upstage them by inventing a maneuver where the first baseman catches the ball and then falls down, then he reaches out to tag the bag with his glove all while on the ground floundering like a fish out of water. The Blue Jay judges gave him a 10 but the Wildcats judges who improperly appraised the technical complexity of this maneuver only gave him a 2. Harvey gave him a putout.
Tony Baccari led the birds offense going 3 for 3 with 2 singles and a little league homer. Curtis Bragg (double) and Steve Griffin both chipped in with 2 hits. One hit days for Dick Tosti, Jeff Blank, Del Kates, Lee Bullman, Bill Matlack and Bob Silvester. Harold Barman had the only RBI for the jaybirds. Rich Pich pitched well in relief of Jim O'Brien who started the game and was pulled after pitching 1 scoreless inning.
In a Far from High Scoring Game the Bluebirds were able to Fly over and Hit the Kittens with their Droppings in a 3-2 Victory for the Bluebirds. Needless to say it was a Close Game all 7 innings, no constant back and forth Scoring the Winning Run Scored when Tony ”Crazy Legs” Baccari Hit a Linedrive 1 or 2 Hopper to the Rightfielder Our only Problem on the Play was that Tony forgot to Stop until He Crossed Home Plate !! It Probably wouldn’t have Mattered anyway because the next Batter Curt Bragg Hit a Double what’s the Old saying Do Do Happens !!! See that I kept it Clean, everybody thought I was going to say Shit Happens but I didn’t Oops I think I just messed up !!!
Both Teams Defenses Play Solid Today even the Middle Fielder for the Bluebirds He Looked a Lot like JERRY JEFF what ever procedure You had JJ it Worked Leading the Offense for the KittyKats were Papa John and Bill Howland both going 2 for 3. John Reich and Scott Comer both went 2 for 2. It’s to Bad they both only batted Twice rounding out the Hitting were Bill Jones, Howard Wible,Mike Weidmann, Steve Scheele all with 1 Hit !!! Fred Weiner did Hit 2 Line drive Shots to left that “Crazy Legs” Baccari was able to turn into Outs !!!
Congratulations to the Blue Jays on a well played game that was actually fun to be a Part of even though I was on the Wrong side of the Scoreboard !!!
Flames 16 Panthers 1
The Flames welcomed back Warren Fuchs from the injured list and every Flames had at least one hit in a 16-1 win over the shorthanded Panthers, Bill Russell, Lee Jaslow, and Warren Fuchs each got on base twice with two hits from Bill and Lee and a hit and walk from Warren (showing no rust after missing seven games). Kevn Culp led the offense with four hits (including a double), three RBI's and three runs scored. Tom Cosgrove and Kevin Grevera each had three hits with Kevin driving in three runs. Bob Gaines had two doubles and three RBI's. Craig Wright had two hits and two RBI's. Russ Dorrycott, Ron Cohen, Jack Galloway, and Jim Stabene all contributed singles. Kevin Culp pitched to contact to the left side so much that Flames right fielder Jack Galloway asked to catch the bottom of the seventh inning so he could touch the ball on defense.
Flames torched the Panthers 16 to 1
The Panthers struggled to get anything going with only 10 hits
Jim Klemick, Ed Occhi and Mike Segal all had 2 hits each.
Starr 7 Classics 5
Starr opened the game scoring 5 runs in the first inning and held a 7 to 0 lead going into the 5th inning. The Classics scored 3 runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 7 to 3. Heading into the bottom of the 7th. The Classics plated 2 runs and had the tying run on base when the next batter flew out to left to end the game. Final score 7 to 5 Starr victory. Offensive leaders for Starr were Bill Schwartz going 2 for 2 with 2 rbis. Larry Levin, John Rozolis, and Keith Klasic each contributed 2 hits. Adding 1 hit were Ron Fein, Spencer Snyderman, Terry Abrams, Alan Massey, Dave Detweiler, Harris Braunstein and Howard Borochaner. HOWARD WAS A PERFECT 1 FOR 1 AND PLAYED OUTSTANDUNG DEFENSE AT 2ND BASE. Bill Schwartz pitched a great game not allowing a walk. Defensive gems were turned in by Ron Fein and Terry Abrams to smash 2 potential rallies. Thanks to Jim O'Brien who pitched a great game and Jack Galloway for filling in for the Classics in a competitive game.
(Editor's note: I'm not certain if OUTSTANDUNG is a typo or a portmanteau. Did Howard play outstanding defense or did he stand out because he played like dung? I was there and I thought he did well. Typo or not, it is very clever commentary. I had to leave it in.)
Devils 17 Eagles 10
Well, well….it must be the second half like last year….
Devils win 17-10 today with some timely hits…
Decent defense all around.
Derek Foster, Larry Restivo, Bim Bradford, and Tom Sikora all went 3-3 today while Ray Morris, Roy Barlow, and Gene Reeber went 3-4. Frank Froio went 2-3 and got 2 crucial RBIs when we needed them.
Great start to the second half of the season. Hopefully we can continue this trend….
The eagles started out very well against the Devils and had a 7 to 4 lead after 2 innings. Unfortunately our games last 6 innings where the Devils scored 13 runs while the eagles only scored 3 runs. With the Devils coming away with a 17 to 10 win. The Devils scored at least 1 run every inning except the seventh where I believe they got tired of running in the heat. The Devils played very consistent offense and played solid defense by making some nice catches in the field off several line drives by the Eagles. The Devils earned a solid win over the Eagles. The Eagles were led by Frank Glauser who went 4 for 4, Gene Corrado and Bob Esterly each went 4 for 5. Rich Dempsey had 3 hits and Franco Folda and Gary Jones each had 2 hits. It just wasn't enough to top the red hot Devils.
Game Reports For 6/26/2025
Blues Brothers 16 Starr 4
The Blues Brothers defeated the short, staffed Starr Team 16 to 5 in the 9 AM game on Field # 4.
The Blues Brothers were led by Tom Riether, 4 for 4, with 2 triples and 3 RBI's. Jack Donohue had 3 hits including a double. Bill Krieger contributed 3 hits, breaking out of a mini slump.
Ed Brandriff, Paul Stetsko, Ted Henritzy, Joe Mursch, Charlie Whitaker, Andy Cohen and Fred Eberhardt all had 2 hits, Charlie had 3 RBI's with his hits. Andy Cohen had 3 RBI's with his hits, and showed off his blinding speed taking 2nd base on a relay throw to the infield, in the fifth inning. Wayne Heaton pitched all seven innings for the Blues Brothers.
Starr jumped with a 2 run first inning but Blues Brothers plated 5 in the first and the rout was on. The Blues Brothers then added 11 more runs to 2 more for the Starr team first a 16 to 4 thrashing to a, shorthanded and injury riddled Starr team. There is only 1 runner left to pinch run as the injury list increases. Offensively for Starr Larry Levin and John R0zolis were a perfect 4 for 4 and Alan Massey 3 for 4. Chipping in with 2 hits were Terry Klein and Howard Borochaner. Four runs were scored with Larry Levin and Terrry Klein each scoring 2. The Blues Brothers played a great defensive and hit the s___ out of the ball and capitalized on no defense by Starr.
Flames 15 Blue Jays 1
The Flames bats were on fire in a 15-1 win over the Blue Jays. John Mack had four hits (including a double), scored three runs, and drove in four runs. Bob Gaines had three hits (two doubles) and five RBI's. Ron Cohen and Tom Cosgrove both contributed three hits also. Kevin Culp, Kevin Grevera, Jack Galloway, Jim Stabene, and Bill Russell had two hits each. Lee Jaslow scored two runs and had one hit. Craig Wright chipped in scoring one run. The Flames defense was again strong. Bill Russell and Lee Jaslow alternated at second base and each made good plays there.
A dismal day at the plate for the Blue Jays as they were burned by the Flames a second time this season. The blue birds only squawked their way to 8 hits and 1 run with no bird managing more than 1 hit. Jeff Blank drove in Tony Baccari for the only blue run. The game went up in flames early as the Flames scored 3 runs in the first inning and added 5 in the second inning to put the game out of reach early. The blue defense was shaky early but did settle down later in the game where they managed to turn a couple of double plays to hold the Flames in double digits.
Panthers 13 Eagles 9
An interesting game, Panthers won 13 to 7 over the Eagles. Eagles and Panthers traded 5 run 1st innings. From there the Eagles scored 1 in the 3rd and 5th innings, whereas the Panthers scored 8 more runs.
Highlights of the game starts with Ed Occhi filling in as the pitcher, from good defensive play with Augie Rosenblatt playing 1st with a gusto not seen in a while. Craig Niederpreum played in right catching a significant fly ball and general good play he alternated innings at 2nd base. Catchers not to be left out, good play by Jim Swiderski and timely hitting by Doug Rutter. Terry Gallagher showed an art to playing midfield. Solid defensive play at shortstop, 3rd and occasional 2nd base starting a double play to end the game.
Highlighting hitting by 3 hit a piece by Ken Riess, Mike Kroger and Terry Gallagher. 2 hits by Dale Cassidy, Jim Klemick, Ed Occhi, Bob Dougherty and Doug the hitting machine Rutter. Terry Gallagher had a double along with Mike Kroger who also hit a home run. Today was Mike Kroger's last game until returning in September.
The Eagles started out by scoring 5runs in the first inning thanks to Clete Mahoney hitting a grand slam but the eagles couldn't stop the Panthers as they also scored 5 runs in the first. The Eagles couldn't stop the wildcats as they scored at least one run in every inning to score 8 more runs while the Eagles could only score 4 more as the Panthers came away with a 13 to 9 victory. The Eagles were led by Clete Mahoney who went 4 for 4 including his home run and a triple with 2 singles, Craig Kloss and Art Taylor each had 3 hits. Gene Corrado, Bob Esterly and Gary Jones each had 2 hits. But it wasn't enough to upend the Panthers as they were too much for the Eagles.
Devils 7 Classic 6
Well, well, we won our 2nd game of the year with very good defense and timely hitting for a change.
Devils started with Jeff Hooker's return scoring 3 runs in the first inning. Kept the Classics to 2 runs until the 6th. Devils scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning securing a 7-6 win.
Roy Barlow and Jeff Hooker went 2-2 which gave us momentum. The Classics do not have their starting pitcher and it hurt them. They had to switch pitchers in the middle of the game.
Walks do matter……..but we still had to hit for runs to be scored….
The Classics battled having players out of their normal position. The Classics tried to make a comeback in the seventh inning falling short by a score 7-6.
Good hitting by Eric Suber 4 hits and followed by George Groves and Jack McNulty (home run) each with two hits.
Wildcats 4 Wolfpack 3
In a Low Scoring Well Played Game by Both Teams the Wildcats were able to come out on Top of the Wolfpack 4-3,the Wolfpack Scored a Single Run in the First Inning and the Score stayed that way until the Bottom of the Fourth Inning when the Wildcats Scored 3 Runs
Mike “Wooden Bat” Weidmann led off with a Basehit John McCann made an Out then Carl Weigand hit a Single,Kevin Oliver followed with a Double, Billy “The Kid” Howland Singled and Bill Jones had a Fielder's Choice in the 6th Inning Scott Comer made Two Nice Catches one Robbing Ron Mangini of Extra Bases. In the Top of the Seventh The Wolfpack would put up 2 Runs to tie the Game at 3 Starting the Bottom of the Seventh “Wooden Bat” Weidmann would draw a Walk in His at Bat Followed by a “VICIOUS LINE DRIVE” to Left off the Bat of John McCann, Carl tried to move the Runners Up but Popped Up to 2nd then Kevin Oliver hit a Fly Ball to Right Center the Fielder came running in but couldn’t hang on to the Ball to Load the Bases with One Out up stepped up “The Kid” Howland who Proceeded to Hit His 3rd Line Drive Single to Right Field for the Game Winning Hit.
Our Hats Off to the “WOLFPACK” on a Well Played Game
The game was tight right up to the last inning as the Wildcats clawed their way past the Wolfpack by a score of 4-3. The Pack jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Wildcats stubborn defense and good pitching shutdown the Wolfpack bats. Clutch hitting combined with two costly Wolfpack errors gave the Wildcats a 3-1 lead going into the 7th inning when Mark Azzaro delivered his 2nd hit of the game followed by a booming triple by Pete Williamson and single by Pascal Houcke to tie the score at 3-3. In the bottom of the 7th, the Wildcats started the inning with a walk, another single but then another costly error loaded the bases. A clutch hit scored the winning run for the Wildcats.
Game Reports For 6/19/2025
Starr 7 Wolfpack 3
Starr started out slow, building a 2 to 0 lead after 3 innings. Starr then jumped out to a 7 to 0 lead thanks to a 4 run 4th. The Wolfpack answered with 2 in the 5th and added 1 in the 6th for a 7 to 3 win. Offensively Larry Restivo and Alan Massey went 3 for 3. Chipping in with 2 hits was John Rozolis. Terry Klein, Terry Abrams, Spencer Synderman, Bill Schwartz, Howard Borochaner, Jay Passman, Dave Detweiler all chipped in with 1 hit. A great win and out to breakfast with the team. Spoke about the all star game and our whole team said that Craig Wright, Kenny Riess, and Bob Gaines deserved an amazing amount of credit for the work they do preparing the playing fields. We all agreed that in all the leagues we played in, the fields were never as perfect as the ones we play on every day in this league. They are as good as the pro teams spring training field that I played baseball in.
The Wolfpack was depleted by injuries (played with only 10 men) and could not overcome a disciplined Starr lineup of really good players...... Starr jumped out early taking advantage of fielding miscues by the Wolfpack. Starr was able to get players on base and deliver key hits through the holes of the Wolfpack defense, building a 6-0 lead by the 4th inning. The Pack rallied in the 5th with key hits by Brian Donocuff, Judy Agasar, Lou De Palma, Pascal Houcke, Phil Angiolini and Pete Williamson. Unfortunately, the rally was snuffed out by poor baserunning, having the 3rd out at home plate. But the Pack did manage to put a 3 spot on the board. After that Starr scored again and the Wolfpack ran out of steam losing by a final score of 7-3 Pascal Houcke had 3 hits as did Pete Williamson... Phil Angiolini had 2 hits. The Pack needs to get their entire squad to return from injuries and vacations and get back to playing winning softball.
Blues Brothers 8 Devil 4
The Blues Brothers defeated the Devils 8 to 4 on Field # 3, Thursday morning. The Devils got out of the gate early plating two runs in the first inning, but the Blues Brothers came back with 3 runs in their first at bat. The Devils tied the game in the top of the fourth inning. Hitters five through ten came through in the bottom of the fourth, scoring 4 more runs for the Home Team.
In the sixth inning each team scored one run, and the defense held out in the seventh inning for the Blues Brothers, to win the game.
Charlie Whitaker and Jack Donohue both went 3 for 3 for the home team. Paul Stetsko, Ted Henritzy, Joe Mursch, Pitcher, Wayne Keaton, and Fred Eberhardt all had two hits for the Jake and Elwood team.
Well, we stayed in the game until the 4th when they scored 4 runs. Defense played better but still had issues with key hits with bases loaded. The manager needs hitting instructions I think. Nevertheless, Ray Morris pitched another great game going 3-3, Derek Foster, Dave Bushar, Tom Jakubowski, and Bim Bradford all went 2-3. We are trying our best and hopefully we can get some wins soon.
Flames 10 Wildcats 2
The early wake-up call for a move-up of an 11AM game to 9AM did not douse the Flames today. The Flames bats matched the weather in a 10-2 victory over the Wildcats. The Flames once again benefited from walkless pitching, solid defense, and hitting throughout the lineup. Kevin Culp led the way with four hits (including a double) and two RBI's. John Mack had three hits (two doubles) and three RBI's. Russ Dorrycott, Bob Gaines (2 doubles), Jim Stabene, Bill Russell, and Tom Cosgrove also had two hits apiece. Lee Jaslow and Jack Galloway contributed one hit each. Ron Cohen and Craig Wright showed up (trying to get everyone in the writeup!). Russ Dorrycott made multiple running catches in leftfield - one a smoked drive by Wildcat Kevin Oliver that had Aaron Judge caliber exit velocity and no spin! Thanks to Dave Simone for volunteering to umpire on such a hot day and enduring more close calls than usually occur in a game. The Flames would like to acknowledge Jim O'Brien and the Board for figuring out how to play four games and thank the grounds crew for getting four fields ready to play.
In a not very competitive game the Flames came away with a 10-2 Victory over the WILD-KITTENS,even though there was a lot of Complaining about some of the calls that were made. But with the way We hit with only 8 Hits and some Questionable Fielding the Umpire's calls didn’t cost us The Game !! I want to thank Dave Simone for giving His time on a Hot Day to fill in as an Umpire and Apologize for all the Complaining from Our Team especially the Asshole that Manages the Team. Kevin Culp Pitched an EXCELLENT GAME and We couldn’t get anything Past Tom Cosgrove at Shortstop !!! Bill Jones who is Working His Way Through a Hamstring Injury went 3 for 3 Kevin Oliver Hit Two of the Hardest Balls this Year, both were Outs, and
Mike “Wooden Bat” Weidmann Hit a Shot to Leftfield that was one of the Best Hit Balls by a Wildcat Player this Season the Only Problem was that Russ Dorrycott Caught it !!
It was a Well Played Game by every Member of the Flames even “Frankie Stabene”
On One Play one of the Wildcats hit a Ball back up the Middle and Kevin was able to Field the Ball but it Actually looked like He Pulled the Ball Out of His ASS !!! After the Play Kevin acknowledged that there was a Brown Spot on the Ball !!
Great Game Flames!
Eagles 7 Blue Jays 4
The little birds were unable to stand up against the bigger birds. Not exactly certain what happened to the Blue Jays bats but Thursday was a day where they simply did not hit. Posting 9 hits total the Jays were able to stay close throughout the entire game, however, 3 potential blue rallies were killed by double plays. A decent defensive effort by the birds in blue but the green birds prevailed.
Jim O'Brien led the blue attack going 2 for 2 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Del Kates chipped in with 2 hits. Curtis Bragg, Dick Tosti, Jeff Blank, Rich Pich, and Bob Silvester (2 out RBI single) all added a hit. Rich Pich pitched well as did Tom Boyle for the Eagles. Tony Baccari scored twice. Credit to the Eagles for a well played game.

Blue Jays 12 Devils 4
The Blue Jays picked up their third win in the last four games and this time Lee Bullman (2 hits) was there to witness a win. The birds outplayed the Devils defensively. After falling behind 3 to 1 after one inning the blue defense started making the key plays. The offense piled on runs a few at a time by scoring in 5 of the 7 innings. This only happens when you get contributions from the entire team. Jim O'Brien pitched a good game only giving up 4 runs and not walking anyone.
On the offensive side the Jays had to modify the batting order as Steve "Fancy Pants" Griffin was not available to play. Curtis Bragg stepped into the leadoff spot and went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Tony Baccari was 3 for 4 with a double, a triple, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI's. Derek Foster led off going 3-4 while Dave Bushar went 3-3.
Ray pitched another great game and went 2-3
Bim Bradford and new addition to the team, Roy Barlow, each went 2-3
We just need to put hits together along with timely defense…

The pitching (Dave Fayne, our backup pitcher did a good job on the mound) and fielding was good but the hitting for the team was not good.

In the top of the seventh inning, the heart of the Blue Brothers' lineup pushed across two runs to take an 8-6 lead. Fortunately the short field ground rules resulted in Tom Reither's second over the fence homerun being a double helping the Flames limit the rally to two runs. In the bottom of the seventh, Kevin Grevera led off with a single. John Mack sent Kevin to third with a single. Bob Gaines smoked a drive to right center field. Bill Kreiger got a great jump and made an outstanding running catch. Ron Cohen singled in Grevera. Craig Wright doubled in the tying run. Both the Pack's infield and outfield shut down the Panthers hitting. The Panthers bats came alive in the top of the 7th scoring 3 runs to make it a tie game at 4-4. Game Reports For The Week Ending 6/13/2025
A very strange week for Bucks Senior Softball. Tuesday should have been a normal day but starting the early games in a very light rain seemed fine until the fine rain decided to step up it's game and changed into a downpour. Two of the three games completed four innings and based on USA Softball rules are complete games. The third game ended one out short of being a complete game.
In addition to the partial play on Tuesday we played our first ever Wednesday game since we would not have the fields on Thursday due to the Pennsbury tournament. This was necessary because we only had 2 fields available to us on Thursday.
Thursday we managed to get in 4 games playing at Firefighter's Park which the township did an excellent job preparing for us.
The games on Tuesday were rain shortened but I have to compliment Paul (shown on the left) for doing a great job keeping the smoke from those Canadian Wildfires away. I would also like to note that there were no bear sightings this week so Community Park did not need to close.
Tuesday
Blues Brothers 9 Wildcats 2
The Blues Brothers defeated the Wildcats 8 to 2 in a rain shortened, but official game. The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, due to the downpour, with the Wildcats having the bases loaded.
The Blues Brothers scored 3 runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Ted Henritzy, followed by an RBI double by Tom Riether, followed by a single by Joe Mursch and an RBI single by Jack Donohue.
The Blues Bothers scored five runs in the third inning starting with a walk by Fred Eberhardt and an RBI triple by Ed Brandriff. Paul Stetsko hit an RBI triple scoring Ed. Ted Henritzy then hit an RBI single scoring Paul, followed by an RBI double by Tom Riether, scoring Ted. Bill Krieger then hit an RBI single scoring Tom, ending the inning because of the five-run rule.
Andy Cohen had two hits in two at bats for the Blues Brothers. Franklin Smith had several assists playing both second base and 3rd base.
In a Game Shortened by Rain (not soon enough) the Blues Brothers beat the Wildcats 8-2 !!
Wayne “Christy Mathewson” Heaton held the Wildcats to only One Hit and One Baserunner through the 1st 4 Innings. Scott Comer had a line drive single in the 2nd inning. The Blues Brothers made every defensive play actually both Teams Played Good Defense it’s just that the Blues Brothers “OUTHIT” the Wildcats by “QUITE A FEW HITS” !!! The Wildcats were able to Get a Double and 3 Singles and a Walk in the Bottom of the 5th to Score the 2 Runs and still had the Bases Loaded when the Skies Opened Up and Quickly Flooded the Fields to end the Game at 8-2. If the Score reverts back to the Previous inning Wayne would’ve had a 1 Hit Shutout but the Wildcats will settle for the 8-2 Score and the 3 Extra Hits hahahaha !!! Congratulations to the Blues Brothers a well Coached Team !!!
Devils 13 Panthers 3 (Not a complete game)
Devils scored 13 runs by the 4th inning when the rain stopped the game. Devils were winning 13-3 into the bottom of 4th with 2 outs.
Ray Morris pitched another great game going 3-3, while Derek Foster, Wayne Haller, Dave Bushar, and Bim Bradford went 2-2. Gene Reeber went 2-3…
The Devils are starting to hit now and the team is now starting to gel………
Eagles 10 Wolfpack 8
The Wolfpack and the Eagles started out with a high scoring game with the Wolfpack scoring in 3 of 4 innings and the Eagles scoring in all 4 innings to win in a rain shortened 4 inning gamen 10 to 8. The Eagles were led by Gary Jones with 3 hits and 4 players with 2 hits including Clete Mahoney (double), Frank Glauser, Bob Esterly and our sub player Bob Gaines. Bob played both in the infield and outfield. We want to thank him for his fine play and for helping to prepare the fields prior to the games.
The game was called by the umpire not allowing the Wolfpack a chance to catch the Eagles who were winning 10-8. The Wolfpack recovered their bats but poor fielding and bad baserunning really cost the Pack this game...... The team manager could not make a play and that combined with two questionable calls against the Wolfpack opened the doors for the Eagles to soar with 10 runs. The Wolfpack hitting was led by Steve Belenko with 3 hits, Mark Azzaro with 2 hits and 2 RBIs ,Ron Mangini ,Judy Agasar, Ken Radon, Lou Depalma, Pete Williamson, Dave Noa, Brian Donocuff and Joe Sothern all contributed hits in a tight game. Dave Noa pitched a great game for the Pack only to lack defensive support.
Wednesday
Blue Jays 12 Panthers 2
The Blue Jays laid claim to their second win of the season by applying constant offensive pressure, scoring in six of the seven innings, and playing sound defense. Tony Baccari led the blue offense with 4 hits including a triple and scored 3 times. Jeff Blank went 3 for 3 with a double, a walk and 3 runs scored. Dick Tosti, Jim O'Brien, Rich Pich and Bill Matlack all chipped in with 2 hits. Rich Dickson set the stage for the top of the order by walking twice. Rich Pich pitched a great game confident that he had a strong defense operating behind him.
Thursday
Classics 12 Wolfpack 8
This was a Classics team win with good hitting and fielding. Our starting pitcher Norm Derry went down to an injury in the fourth inning and Dave Frayne stepped in and pitched the rest of the game. Dave did a great job in finishing the game for a team win of 12-8.
Good all around hitting by Eric Suber, George Groves, Jack McNulty (longest hit of the day with a triple), Frank Verano, Dave Simone and Eric Gottlieb all contributing with RBI's.
The Wolfpack, missing 3 key players, were outplayed by an aggressive Classics team. The Classics jumped out to a quick 1-0 score but the Pack could not respond in the bottom of the first. The Classics then made it 5-1 but the Pack responded making it 5-4 by the fourth inning. The trouble then started for the Wolfpack allowing base on balls and several miscues in the field, resulting in the score being 8-4. The Pack offense was not strong enough to overcome solid fielding by the Classics in the late innings. The Wolfpack experienced 4 Strikeouts at the plate and 2 DP's which sunk any chances for a comeback resulting in a 12-5 final score. On offense bright spots for the Pack was Pete Williamson going 3 for 3 with a triple, Mark Azzaro , Phil Angiolini each with 2 hits and Steve Belenko, Dave Noa ( also played a great game at Mid) ,and Judy Agasar each added one hit.
Blues Brothers 22 Eagles 6
The Blues Brothers tool advantage of ten walks and the Eagles only having nine players and a sub winning the game 22 to 6.
Ed Brandriff, Ted Henritzy and Monroe Weingarten had three hits for the Blues Brothers. Monroe also had three RBI's. Bill Krieger, Jack Donohue, Wayne Heaton, Charlie Whitaker, and Fred Eberhardt had three hits for the visiting team. Franklin Smith drew three walks, had a single and scored four runs.
The Blues Brothers and the Eagles started evenly with both teams scoring 1 run in the first inning . The Blues Brothers then scored 14 runs in the next 3 innings while the Eagles scored 2 making the Eagles the blue team. The Blues Brothers then scored 7 more runs over the last 3 innings while the Eagles scored 3 to finish the game Blues Brothers 23 the eagles 6. Real close game at least for one inning. Congratulations to the Blues Brothers for a runway win! The Eagles were led by Rich Dempsey with 3 hits including a triple and 5 players with 2 hits including Gary Jones, Art Taylor, Clete Mahoney a triple, Frank Glauser, and Bob Esterly. Also thanks to Tom Cosgrove for subbing and playing center field.
Wildcats 9 Devils 8
In a game where the Score was 4-1 Devils after Five Innings the Wildcats were able to put back to back 4 Run Innings and the Devils could only have back to back 2 Run Innings The Wildcats Scored the 4 Runs in the Sixth Inning on Singles by Papa John, Scott Comer, John Reich, Howard Wible and a Double by Aaron Sacharov then in the Top of the Seventh Steve Scheele, Carl Weingarten and Mike Weidmann all Singled with Steve Scoring. John McCann then hit a groundball to short they threw to 2nd or the force but McCann was able to beat the Throw to First Scoring Carl. Papa John Singled moving the Pinch Runner (Steve Scheele) to Third. Bill Howland Singled Scoring Steve then Fred Weiner Singled Scoring Papa John. Thank God we were able to score the 4 Runs because the Devils weren’t done Yet trailing 9-6 the Devils were able to Score 2 In the Bottom of the 7th for the Final 9-8 Score.
The Two Teams have Played Twice both Games being 1 Run Victories for the Wildcats there were a Few Misplayed balls by Each Team and the Game could have Gone “EITHER WAY”.
The Devils were leading the game until the top of the 7th when the some timely hitting by the Wildcats scored 4 in the top of the 7th. Devils did not respond losing 9-7. Derek Foster went 3-4, while Ray Morris, Tom Sikora, Larry Restivo, and John Salmon all went 2-3. Tom Jakubowski came back to play and went 2-2.
Flames 12 Starr 4
The flames started out by scoring 11 runs in the first 3 innings and completely dominated Starr by a final score of 12 to 4. Offensively for Starr every player had at least 1 hit and Larry Levin, John Rozolis, Terry Abrams and Bill Schwartz each had 2 hits. To many players on the injured list and some poor fielding have hindered Starr from being more competitive. Congratulations to the Flames who played a good defense and offensive game.
The Flames bats matched the weather with a scorching attack in a 12-4 win over the shorthanded Starr. The Flames were once again led by Kevin Culp with a walk less game, three hits (one a double), and three RBI's. Russ Dorrycott and Ron Cohen also each had three hits. Bob Gaines, Jack Galloway, Bill Russell, and Tom Cosgrove added two hits apiece. Kevin Grevera, John Mack, Craig Wright, Jim Stabene, and Lee Jaslow chipped in with hits. While Jim Stabene didn't move up in the batting order, he was farther from the bottom of the order as the Flames had 13 players. Thinking he had moved up, Jim had two RBI's! The Flames had another strong defensive game with key plays made by Ron Cohen turning a third to second doubleplay and Craig Wright who made a quick relay on a base hit to the outfield resulting in an out at the plate. The Flames welcomed Jack Zupan to the team and Jack immediately contributed with an RBI in his first at bat. However Jerry Gross reported in that he has suffered a broken humerus that will require 6 to 8 weeks to heal. Jerry was injured scoring the tying run on May 20th. He has been placed on the 60-day disabled list retroactive to May 21.
We narrowly escaped developing a brand new reason to cancel our games. If the rain, heat index, rain, Canadian wildfires, rain, (did I mention rain), Girls softball tournaments, and more weren't enough we had the Middletown police potentially closing community park just because of one small bear. A bear that most likely couldn't eat more than one outfielder.
Blues Brothers 15 Panthers 3
The Blues Brothers defeated the Panthers 15 to 3, in a game that was very close through five innings.
The Blues Brothers scored one run in the second inning on an RBI double by Franklin Smith and then scored three runs in the top of the third inning. In the third inning, Ed Brandriff had a double, followed by an RBI double by Paul Stetsko, scoring Ed. Ted Henritzy then had an RBI single scoring Paul. Tom Riether then hit an RBI double scoring Ted.
The Panthers got some timely hitting by the middle and lower part of their line up scoring one run in the third inning and 2 runs in the fourth inning making the score 4 to 3, which was where it stayed after five innings.
The Blues Brothers got two insurance runs in the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh inning, the Blues Brothers scored nine runs on multiple hits and a few errors by the Panthers.
Paul Stetsko and Bill Krieger had three hits for the Belushi and Aykroyd team. Ed Brandriff, Ted Henritzy, Tom Riether, Jack Donohue, Charlie "Soft Pretzel" Whitaker and Fred Eberhardt all had three hits. Wayne Heaton pitched great going all seven innings.
The Panthers scored 1 in 2nd, 2 in 3rd. Blues scored 1 in 1st, 3 in 2nd, 2 in 6th and 9 in the 7th.
The game was fairly well played until the 7th, when the wheels fell off the bus.
Highlights for the Panthers, Jim Klemick, Mike Aversa and Craig Niederpreum had 3 hits apiece.
Starr 12 Devils 10
Starr gave up 5 runs in the top of the first with some poor defense to fall behind 5 to 0. Starr answered with 3 in the bottom of the first and 1 run in the bottom of the 2nd to give the Devils a 1 run lead. Devils scored 2 in the top of the 3rd and Starr answered back with 3 in the bottom of the third to knot up the score at 7 apiece. In the bottom of the 4th Starr broke the game open with a 5 run outburst in the bottom of the 4th for a 12 to 7 lead. The Devils did not quit and scored 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th for a final of 12 to 10 for a Starr victory. Offensively Larry Levin was a perfect 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored. Dave Detwiler was a perfect 2 for 2. Chipping in with 2 hits were Terry Klein, Terry Abrams, Spencer Synderman, John Rozolis and Harris Braunstein. Alan Massey, Howard Borochaner and Rich Waloff each with one hit. Biggest hit was Rich Waloffs 2 out bases clearing double for 3 rbis with 2 outs. This was a total team effort as our number one pitcher was absent and our 3 and 4 hitters on the injured list. Spencer Synderman pitched a great game and got the win for a depleted Starr team.
The Devils played a much better game today but fell short 12-10 to Starr. Ray Morris pitched another great game and hit 3-4.
Tom Sikora led the team going 4-4….Nice game for Tom playing the middle. Derek Foster went 2-3, while Bim Bradford went 3-4.
We stuck with Starr for most of the game but they just had more hits today. Close game all around especially sine the Devils only had 10 players today.
We will get some injured players back in a few weeks and hopefully have a full team before the playoffs.
Wildcats 5 Eagles 4
The Wildcats were able to “SQUEAK OUT” a 1 Run Victory over the Eagles Today, the unusual thing was that Billy “The Kid” Howland went Hitless but He did Play His usual 3 Positions in the Game 2nd-P-3rd. I’m sure that if We needed Him to Play the Outfield He would do that also, The Eagles Batted 1st and Scored 2 Runs in the Top of the 1st but the Wildcats were able to put together 4 Straight Hits with 2 Outs in their half of the 1st to take a 3-2 lead. The Cats only had one hit in the second inning but the One Hit was a Triple by Bill Jones, so the Wildcats went ahead 4-2 in their half of the 2nd. Then the Eagles Scored 2 in the Top of the 3rd to TIE the Score 4-4 and that’s the way it was until the Wildcats were able to push a Run across in the Bottom of the 7th !!! Tom Boyle would have had His 3rd STRIKEOUT of the Game but a “VERY QUESTIONABLE” Pitch that was a STRIKE was called an Illegal Pitch by a “ROOKIE UMPIRE” to the League, all I can say is that I didn’t complain but then again He didn’t call it on Me and as a Very Few Guys in the League know that I OCCASIONALLY in a “Very Polite Way” have a Tendency to Question the Umpires Call. Tom just shook His Head and kept PITCHING unlike Me because I would have kept BITCHING. The Wildcats had 5 different Players with 2 Hits and 5 different Players Scored a Run. Our ’s off to the Eagles for Fighting to the Very End !!!
Today's writeup the Eagles and Wildcats both scored 4 runs in the first 3 innings and it remained that way until the seventh inning with the Wildcats scoring the winning run to come away with a 5 to 4 win in a very tense and well played game. The Eagles were led by Clete Mahoney who went 3 for 3 including a triple and Craig Kloss; Gene Corrado and Tom Boyce who each had 2 hits. The Eagles could only manage 12 hits which was not near enough to come away with a win. Congratulations to the Wildcats for winning a tense and well played game.
Classics 14 Blue Jays 10
This could have been either team winning the game was tied once at 5-5 later in the game the Classics went ahead 12-10 and held onto a 14-10 win.
The hitting attack was led by Eric Suber, George Groves and Frank Verano with 3 hits each. Jack McNuty, Bob Dolan, John Breig, Darryl Puzan added on with 2 hits each. Dave Simone, Mark Jerdan, Dave Cutler and Dave Frayne contributed with 1 hit each.
The Blue Jays offense managed to put 10 runs on the board. The Blue Jays defense helped the Classics put 14 on the board. The bird defense that looked so good on Tuesday, did in fact look good on Tuesday. Thursday was a new day, a different ending, and a different defense. Lee Bullman made the only noteworthy defensive play by making a nice catch on a deep fly to right center. Lee's catch came off the bat of Jack McNulty, with two outs and the bases loaded, and ended a potential big Classic inning keeping the birds in the game.
On the offensive side of the ball the Jays managed 19 hits but only capitalized for 10 runs in two 5 run innings. The Jays left many stranded runners and they were unable to score with bases loaded in the sixth inning due to an untimely double play, and again with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Steve Griffin once again got things going with 2 hits and 2 walks, Tony Baccari contributed 2 doubles. Dick Tosti was 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's. Curtis Bragg had 2 hits including a double. Jim O'Brien was 3 for 3 with a triple and 3 two out RBI's. Rich Pich, Lee Bullman and Bill Matlack also contributed 2 hits.
Flames 2 Wolfpack 0
In a game reminiscent of the 1968 MLB season (when Bob Gibson led the NL with a 1.12 ERA, Luis Tiant led the AL with a 1.61 ERA, and Denny McLain went 31-6 - and four other pitchers had an ERA under 2.00 - causing MLB to lower the pitching mound from 15 inches to 10 inches for the 1969 season), the Flames played a flawless defensive game in a tight 2-0 win over the Wolfpack. Kevin Culp pitched superbly, barely outpitching the Wolfpack's Ron Miller (who's blazing pitches resulted in 3 strikeouts). Bob Gaines and Ron Cohen drove in runs in the top of the second and neither team scored in any other inning. Craig Wright had 3 hits for the Flames. John Mack and Bob Gaines had two each (one of Bob's was a double). Kevin Culp, Russ Dorrycott, Ron Cohen, Jack Galloway, Jim Stabene, Lee Jaslow, and Tom Cosgrove each contributed one hit. Jack Galloway played both infield and outfield and started a game ending ground ball double play from the second base position. Whatever the manager said about the shortstop's defense after that seems to have worked. But neither was made available to the press after the game.
WANTED: Anyone selling hits and runs please contact Ron Mangini, manager Wolfpack!!!!!
The Wolfpack was shutout by the Flames 2-0 scratching out only 8 hits but no runs......Kevin Culp pitched a masterful game never allowing a Pack runner to reach beyond 2nd base....The Wolfpack bats hit the ball 14 times to the shortstop position resulting in an out each time.....who was that shortstop???? Dave Noa came through with 2 hits, Steve Belenko, Mark Azzaro, Pete Williamson, Joe Sothern, Ron Miller and John Walsh all recorded 1 hit each......The Flames played a great defensive game with key hits at the right time to score their 2 runs and that is all they needed.
Game Reports For 6/3/2025
Flames 10 Devils 3
The Flames took advantage of the scorching sun with multiple sun-aided hits and broke open a close game with the gallant shorthanded Devil with 5 runs in the top of the 6th inning in a 10-3 victory. The Flames were motivated to play well by a bench visit from the injured Warren Fuchs. John Mack led the offense with four hits and two RBI's. Craig Wright and Kevin Grevera both had three hits with one of Kevin's driving in a run. Kevin Culp pitched another walkless game, had two hits (including a triple), and also drove in two runs, Lee Jaslow had a strong game starting the 5 run rally with a two out single. Lee had two hits, two RBI's and made a good defensive play ranging to grab a looping pop-up. Ron Cohen, Russ Dorrycott, Jack Galloway, and Jim Stabene all had two hits. Bill Russell had one hit and an RBI and ranged over to cover second on a key force play taking a feed from Jim Stabene. The Flames defense was solid throughout the entire field with the only errors made by the shortstop. The Flames manager indicated that discussions with his shortstop about fielding will remain in-house.
Playing with 10 didn’t hurt the Devils today, we just didn’t put hits together to score runs. The Devil's defense was ok, but too many bloopers killed us from the flames.
Ray Morris pitched another great game and went 3-3. Derek Foster, Larry Restivo, and Dave Bushar went 2-4. Bim Bradford and Gene Reeber went 2-3 on the day.
Better luck next game…We all give it our best.
Blue Jays 10 Wolfpack 2
The Blue Jays turned in a defensive gem shutting down a big Wolfpack attack and claiming their first win of the season. The blue infield of Del Kates, Dick Tosti, Ken Mealey, Steve Griffin and Bill Matlack made every play. Tony Baccari made catch after catch in left field and Jerry Jeff (Blind Squirrel) Blank made an outstanding catch in right center on a screaming line drive off the bat of Pete Williamson, without even seeing it. Rich Pich pitched a great game for blue. Steve (fancy pants) Griffin got everything started for the Jays going 1 for 1 with a pair of walks and scoring twice. Del Kates was 2 for 3 and scored 3 runs. Dick Tosti was 2 for 3 and scored twice. The offensive star for the birds was Jeff Blank going 3 for 3 with a double and 4 two out RBI's. Jim O'Brien, Rich Pich, Bill Matlack and Howard Barman chipped in with a hit. The victory was a total team effort in shutting down the previously undefeated pack and makes the Blue Jays undefeated for the month of June.
The Wolfpack were outplayed by an aggressive Blue Jay team. The Pack had poor defense in the initial two innings making 5 errors in the field which the Blue Jays took advantage of by mounting a 6-1 lead by the end of the 2nd inning. The Pack tried in vain to mount a rally each inning and could only drive in one additional run. The Wolfpack did load the bases twice in the game but could not get the key hits needed. The only bright spots for the Wolfpack was Steve Belenko going 3-3 and Mark Azzaro 2-3. The Blue Jays played a great defensive game and delivered clutch hits when needed.
The Wolfpack will regroup and move forward to meeting the Flames on Thursday.
Wildcats 11 Panthers 3
In the Battle of the Felines The smaller Cat came out on top, as the Wildcats beat the Panthers by a Score of 11-3. The Wildcats put together innings of 3-5-3 Runs on 17 Hits and 4 walks leading the way was the youngster Bill Howland going 3 for 3 with a run scored and a triple, followed by Bill Jones 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored, Kevin Oliver 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and Fred Weiner 2 for 2 with a Walk and 2 Runs scored. Bill Jones also had 3 Assists from the outfield John McCann was able to work 2 walks and score a Run!!! The fleet footed Tom Delaney was able to score all the way from 3rd Base on a single to right field, I don’t think Tom's speed improved so there’s a possibility that the Right fielder may have fallen down, but I don’t think so because his name is Ron not Carl or Scott!!!
The Panthers played a good Game and never gave up !!! Of course having Dale Cassidy and Ken Reiss on the team there’s no quitting until the Final Out is made.
The Wildcats scored 3 in the 1st, 5 in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th. Panthers scored 1 in the 1st, 5th and 6th innings.
The Panthers seem to play a different type of game than they have been. Routine plays were handled with difficultly. Hits were fewer than could have been expected, only 13 for the contest against the Wildcats, scoring 3 runs. Ken Riess come on to pitch after the 5th inning. Jim Klemick and Mike Aversa each had 2 hits. Mike Aversa had 2 RBI's.
Blues Brothers 16 Classics 4
The Blues Brothers had their hitting cleats on and avenged their opening day loss to the Classics with a 16 to 4 victory on Field #5. Wayne Heaton pitched all seven innings for the Blues Brothers. The Blues Brothers scored 4 runs in the second inning, 5 runs in the third inning, four runs in the fifth inning and 3 runs in the sixth inning. Seven different players had RBI'S for the Blues Brothers.
Tom Reither and Ted Henritzy had four hits each, while Paul Stetsko, Wayne Heaton, and Joe Mursch had three hits each.
There were three defensive plays worth writing about. Butch Brodenheimer made a crowd-pleasing juggling catch of a foul ball as Catcher in the first inning. Bill Krieger made a great catch in left center Field in the seventh inning, on what looked like a sure double. Andy Cohen made a diving catch at second base in the seventh inning, which was an ESPN moment.
This game was not up to Classics standards. The pitching, fielding and hitting was not sharp and gave the Blues Brother too many opportunities to score runs. The Classics lost 16-4.
Starr 10 Eagles 7
The Eagles started slow. After Starr scored 5 runs in the first inning the Eagles scored 3, but then Starr scored 5 more. The Eagles couldn't outscore them but made the game close by scoring 3 more runs in third inning and 1 more in the sixth inning but it was not enough as Starr went on to win by a score of 10 to 7. The Eagles were led by Gene Corrado and Clete Mahoney who each had 3 hits. Rich Dempsey had 2 hit and both were doubles. Four other Eagles had 2 hits including Craig Kloss, Frank Glauser, Scott Jones and Bob Esterly. Craig Kloss played well in left center and Rich Dempsey and Gene Harris played very strong defense in the infield.
Game Reports For 5/27/2025
Devils 22 Classics 16
Well, it was bound to happen…the Devils came out of the cellar and won their first game.
The gang from down under scored 22 runs today was because of timely hits and great pitching by Ray Morris.
Changed the lineup a little and it paid off with Gerry Barlow 5-5….Ray Morris had 5-6 hits along with Derek Foster, Larry Restivo going 3-6.
John Salmon hit all day long and ran like the wind going 4-5. His family should come more often.
Dave Bushar had his hits going 5-6 with Bim Bradford going 4-6.
It was a great team effort as we were tied going into extra innings when the Devils put up 8 runs in the top of the 8th inning and shut the Classics down in the bottom of the 8th. Great game for us as we won our first game of the year……….congrats to all today.
The Devils jumped out with 4 runs in the first inning and held onto the lead until the 7th inning when the Classics tied the game 14 to 14. The game went into extra inning and the Devils came back to score 6 runs and Classics could not come back and lost 22-16. The Classics are holding back and not showing how good they can field. They are just waiting for the playoffs.
Good hitting by Eric Suber, George Groves, Jack McNulty and Dave Simone.
Blues Brothers 4 Starr 3
In the 9:30 AM game on Field # 5, which was played in the last week of May, this game had the atmosphere of a Bucks County Senior League, Softball Playoff Game. The Blues Brothers defeated the defending League Champion Starr Team, 4 to 3.
The Blues Brothers had a great first inning starting with a double by Paul Stetsko and an RBI single by Ted Henritzy. After Director of Officiating Bill Schwartz, who is a great control pitcher, walked Tom Reither, Bill Krieger drove in Henritzy with an RBI single giving the Blue Brothers a 2 - 0 lead.
After a 2-run homerun by Sarr in the bottom of the first inning, the score was tied 2-2 after one inning. Starr then took the lead 3 to 2 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning, Ed Brandriff, swinging at the first pitch, despite his Manager's suggestion to take a pitch, hit a single. Paul Stetsko then hit a single advancing Ed to third base. Then pitcher Bill Schwartz asked to intentionally walk Tom Reither. Thanks to Ed Brandriff, who confirmed the rule that our Director of Officiating tried to ignore, you can only walk one player one time, in a game, Tom reached first on a fielder's choice, where no out was recorded. Then our star of the game, Bill Krieger hit a 2 RBI single and the Blues Brothers took the lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, with two outs and two men on base after a very close call at first base, the Blues Brothers elected not to intentionally walk a very good Starr hitter to get to a player who was 0 for 2. A line drive out was recorded and the Blues Brothers won this close game. Ted Henritzy, Paul Stetsko, and Monroe, not Morgan, Weingarten had two hits each for the Blues Brothers.
The Blues Brothers jumped out with a 2 run first inning and Starr answered with a 2 run outta here home run by Keith Klasic. The score remained tied till the bottom of the 5th when Starr scored 1 run to take a 3 to 2 lead. In the top of the 6th the Blues Brothers pushed two runs across and held on for a 4 to 3 win.
Great defensive play by Larry Levin to save more runs from scoring on a great sliding catch in left field. There were also defensive gems by Ron Fein and Terrry Abrams preventing many more runs for Starr. Offensively Starr was led by Ron Fein going 3 for 3 and Larry Levin, and Keith Klassic chipping in with 2 hits. Terry Abrams, Bill Schwartz, and Spencer Synderman each with 1 hit. The game was a great nail bitter from the 1st to the last inning. Hats off to a great game by the Blue Brothers and a great pitching duel between Wayne Heaton and Bill Schwartz who both pitched great games.
Editor's Note: Rule Clarification. Section AG of our rules titled Limitation on Walks.
This rule was implemented to prevent teams from continuously walking star players.
A batter that has been previously walked during the course of a game will
have the option of accepting all subsequent walks or remaining at the plate
and continuing the at bat.
Panthers 13 Eagles 7
The Panthers had a 13 to 7 victory over the Eagles. As usual there were many plays that could have been highlighted (low lighted) but to protect the players no names will be provided. The Panthers started out with 3 runs in the top of 1st. The Eagles scored 5 runs in the bottom aided by 5 errors. After a scoreless 2nd inning the Panthers scored 3 runs in both the top of 3rd and 5th. The Eagles scored 2 runs in the bottom of 6th and Panthers closed out the top of 7th with 4 runs. Highlights included 21 hits, a home run by Mike Kroger who had 4 rbi's and 4 runs scored, 2 triples by Jim Klemick scored 4 runs and had 2 rbi's. Ken Riess went 3 for 4, 3 rbi's and 4 runs scored. Additionally, Ed Occhi and Mike Aversa went 3 for 4 both with rbi's. Craig Neiderpreum 1 for 3 with an Rbi. Walks to Dale Cassidy, Craig Neiderpreum, Mike Segal and 2 to Jim Swiderski, added to the production.
Added note, again we are blessed with Great Umpiring, today, Harvey.
The Eagles started out by scoring 5 runs in the first inning after the Panthers scored 3. The big green birds could only score 2 more runs the rest of the game while the Panthers scored 10 more to cruise to a 13 to 7 win. The eagles had 5 players with 2 hits including Gary Jones, Rich Dempsey, Frank Glauser, Bob Esterly and Gene Corrado. Congratulations to the Panthers for completely outplaying the eagles.
Wolfpack 11 Wildcats 7
The Wolfpack clawed the Wildcats by a score of 11-7 to remain undefeated. Again, the entire Pack team contributed to the win......Wildcats quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Wolfpack countered with 5 runs in the bottom of the first. Ron Miller, returning from an injury, pitched a great game and Joe Sothern also returned after an injury and went 2-3 at the bat. The high powered Wolfpack offense was led by Phil D'Angiolini with 2 hits, Mark Azzaro with 3 doubles and 6 rbi's, Pete Williamson with 2 doubles, Pascal Houke, Joe Sothern, and Dave Noa each had 2 hits in the game. The Pack scored another 5 runs in the 3rd inning and added another run in the 6th inning......tight defense shut down attempted Wildcat rallys. Great defensive plays were made by Mark Azzaro, Dave Noa, Joe Sothern, Pete Willamson, Pascal Houke, Lou DePalma and Ron Miller, all which all contributed to the 11-8 victory.
The Wildcats Scored 2 Runs in the First Inning and the Wolfpack Answered with 5 Runs !!!
The Wolfpack had Two 5 Run Innings that were too much for the Wildcats to Overcome as the Final Score was 11-7 !!! In a Game where the Wildcats actually Played Good Defense the Wolfpacks Hitting was EARLY and OFTEN and Actually HARD at Times !!! The Wildcats had Four Players that went 2 for3 Kevin Oliver-Bill Jones-Fred Weiner-Howard Wible, Kevin scored Twice and Bill Jones Three Times and His 1 Hit was a Triple they were a Combined 8 for 12!! To WASHOUT the Four Guys with the 2 Hits We actually had Four Guys that went a Combined 0 for 11 WE’RE not going to Win many Games like that !!! The Wolfpack not only Hit well they also Played SOLID DEFENSE On the Positive Side The Wildcats didn’t Rollover after the Two 5 Run Innings out scoring the Wolfpack by a 5-1 Score
Congratulations to the Wolfpack for Playing a Solid all Around Game !!
Flames 14 Blue Jays 2
The Flames manager's write-up will be shorter as his keyboard ran out of ink after last week's write-up! The Flames bats were on fire in a 14-2 win against the Blue Jays. Kevin Culp pitched another strong, walkless game and also "pitched in" with three hits including an RBI triple. The offense was led by Ron Cohen's four hits including a double, two runs, and an RBI. Jim Stabene was an RBI machine with 4 RBI's from his two hits. In Jim's post-game press conference, Jim suggested his manager should move him up in the batting order. The public wonders if controversy is brewing for the Flames! Jack Galloway (1 RBI), Kevin Grevera (3 RBI's), and Tom Cosgrove (1 RBI) each had three hits. Bob Gaines had two hits including a double and had two RBI's. Craig Wright also had two hits. John Mack had one hit and an RBI. Lee Jaslow had one hit and scored a run.
The Blue Jays lost their fourth consecutive game after being burned by the flames 14 to 2. Tony Baccari led the blue offense going 3 for 3 with a double but did not factor in the scoring. Steve Griffin was 2 for 3. Jim O'Brien was 2 for 2, with an RBI double and a run scored. One hit days for Del Kates, Jeff Blank and Rich Pich (RBI). The Jays tallied 10 hits in total but lost production due to an untimely double play and a base running error. On the bright side the Jays cut their strikeout rate by 700% and there was an improvement in the Jay's defense as the Flames hit well and earned the win and the majority of their runs.
Umpire Harvey Harris missed one call after another throughout the entire game. We expect that it will be the last time he leaves his phone on the Blue Jay bench.
Game Reports For 5/20/2025
Wolfpack 15 Starr 11
The Wolfpack never give up and it was proven today as the injury depleted "Pack" gave up 10 runs in the early innings only to storm back for the victory over Starr by the score of 15-11. Again, every team member contributed to this win. By the bottom of the 5th the Wolfpack were down by 7 runs after a relentless hitting attack by Starr. Steve Belenko 2 hits, Phil D'Angiolini 4 hits 2 doubles, Mark Azzaro 2 doubles, Pete Williamson 3 hits with 2 triples, Brian Donocuff 2 hits and Pascal Houcke 3 hits pounced on Starr pitching to score 7 runs in the 5th and 4 runs in the 6th.
Louis De Palma pitched a great game bearing down when we needed and the entire Wolfpack defense rose to the occasion to shut down late inning rallys. clutch fielding plays were made by Pascal Houcke, Mark Azzaro, Phil D'Angiolini, Pete Williamson and especially Brian Donocuff who played an exceptional game at 2nd base. Special thanks to Bob Easterly and Jim O'Brien for subbing due to late game injuries.
Starr scored 5 runs in the first inning and Wolfpack 2 for a 5 to 2 lead. Wolfpack scored 1 in the 2nd and third inning with Starr holding a slim 5 to 4 lead. In the top of the forth Starr tacked on 2 more in the 4th in the 5th for a commanding 11 to 4 lead. At that point Starr's defense fell apart committing A ton of errors and allowing the Wolfpack to score 7 in the 5th and 4 in the sixth for a 15 to 11 victory for the Wolfpack. Offensively the Starr team was by Howard Borochaner and Spencer Synderman going a perfect 3 for 3. Chipping in with 3 hits were Keith Klasic, Ron Fein. 2 hits by Larry Levin, Terry Abrams and Alan Massey. Bill Schwartz getting 1 hit. Defensively Larry Levin making a great sliding catch in the outfield and Jay Passman making a great over the should catch at middle field. A great game was played by the Wolfpack in their victory. Thanks to Jim and Bob for helping out.
Eagles 13 Blue Jays 5
The Blue Jays and the Eagles started early with each team scoring twice in the first inning. The Eagles scored 1 in the 4th second and 2 in the third for a 5 to 2 lead going into the fourth inning. The Blue Jays scored one run in the fourth and fifth inning while the Eagles picked it up scoring 3 runs in the fourth and fifth inning for a eleven to four lead going into the sixth inning. The game finished with the Eagles scoring 2 in the sixth and the Blue Jays with one in the seventh. For the eagles first win of the season 13 to 5. The Eagles played a lot better on offense, defense and pitching. The Eagles offense was led by Frank Glauser who had 4 hits followed by Gene Corrado and Bob Esterly who each had 3 hits. 4 players also had 2 hits including Craig Kloss, Tom Boyle, Gene Harris and Tom Boyce. Rich Dempsey hit a key double in the fifth inning driving in 2 runs. Tom Boyle walked a few batters early but then got serious and finished with 7 strikeouts. That's the most I've ever senn a pitcher do. Really amazing. Gene Corrado played excellent defense at first base handling some hard hit balls at first and then running to first beating the batters. This was the eagles best played game of the season and hopefully we can build on it.
The Blue Jays lost their third consecutive start, falling to the Eagles by a score of 13 to 5. The Jays offense kind of improved getting 11 hits and 5 runs after only posting 6 hits and 1 runs in their second game. However, there was a very big however, as the little blue birds managed to strike out 7 times. Strikeouts seemed to be contagious as 6 different corvids suffered that fate. Tom "Nolan Ryan" Boyle appeared to have his very slow fastball working as he mowed his way through the blue lineup. Dick Tosti, Jim O'Brien and Rich Pich all made contact and led the blue birds with 2 hits each. The Blue Jays are losing fans because of the increased number of fans. The problem appears to be with team management.
Thanks to Terry Abrams and Tom Cosgrove for officially officiating.
Classics 15 Panthers 11
The Classics started out the first few innings scoring 4 in the first and 2 in the second, having a 9-0 lead after their half of the 4th inning. The Panthers found their bats in the middle of the 4th, scoring 6 runs with Mike Kroger hitting a home run driving in 3 RBIs. The game was tied up after 5 when the Panthers scored 3 more runs. Classics scored 3 in the 6 and 7 innings with the Panthers only scoring 2 for a 15-11 loss. Highlights of the game was Mike Kroger’s home run and 3 rbis but adding to the rbis were 2 rbi games for Andy Markowitz and Ron Tuminski. Rbis by Dale Cassidy, Jim Klemick, Bob Dougherty and Mike Aversa. 2 hit games for Andy Markowitz, Mike Kroger, Ed Occhi and Doug Rutter. There were 10 walks, 2 to Dale Cassidy and Ron Tuminski. One each to Jim Klemick, Mike Kroger, Bob Dougherty, Mike Aversa and Mike Segal. Good play was on display highlighted by Jim Swiderski catching a tipped out at home plate.
Great team effort with 10 players and Dave Fayne did an outstanding job filling in for our starting pitcher. The Classics jumped ahead with 4 runs in the first inning and held the Panthers scoreless until the 6th inning when they scored 6 runs. The Panthers tied the game 9-9 but the Classics came back to score a few more runs to win the game 15-11.
Eric Suber with 4 hits and multiple rbi's, Jack McNuity with 4 hits three of them were triples and multiple rbi's and Eric Gottlieb had 2 hits with multiple rib's. George Groves, Dave Simone, Bob Dolan and Darryl Puzan all contributed with 2 hits each and rbi's.
Flames 9 Wildcats 8
Apologies as this write-up may rival War and Peace for length but a closely fought well-played game is worthy of an extended tome. Either team could have won and neither team deserved to lose.
“Well, Prince, so Genoa and Lucca are now just family estates of the Buonapartes. But I warn you, if you don’t tell me that this means war, if you still try to defend the infamies and horrors perpetrated by that Antichrist—I really believe he is Antichrist—I will have nothing more to do with you and you are no longer my friend, no longer my ‘faithful slave,’ as you call yourself! But how do you do? I see I have frightened you—sit down and tell me all the news.”
Oops sorry that is the actual beginning to "War and Peace" (according to AI).....ignore that.
The Flames defeated the Wildcats 9 to 8 in a back-and-forth battle. The Flames offense flared up at the right times with every Flame contributing at least one hit. The Wildcats scored single runs in the top of the first and second innings with multiple well-placed hits (some hard and some not so hard!). The Flames' bats scorched in the bottom of the third inning with 5 runs highlighted by a bases loaded bases clearing double by John Mack. The Wildcats closed the gap with a 2 run fifth inning but the Flames scored two more in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 7 to 4. The Wildcats took an 8 to 7 lead in the top of the sixth with multiple hard hits. Jack Galloway led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and took second on an overthrow at first. Newcomer Jerry Gross followed with a single putting the tying run at third with no outs. Jim Stabene hit a shot to midfielder Kevin Oliver who grabbed the ball and threw a strike to the plate erasing the tying run. Bill Russell followed with a single to rightfield loading the bases. Tom Cosgrove grounded a single into rightfield scoring Jerry Gross and courtesy runner Craig Wright to end the exciting game.
The Flames only were able to score in 3 innings and each time the rally was spearheaded by the lower half of the order. Jack Galloway, Jerry Gross, Jim Stabene, and Bill Russell combined to go 7 for 12 with 5 runs scored. Tom Cosgrove had three hits. Kevin Culp, Russ Dorrycott, Jack Galloway, Jerry Gross, and Jim Stabene all had two hits each. Russ Dorrycott and Jack Mack had 3 RBI's each. Kevin Culp had one RBI and pitched a strong game with no walks. Jerry Gross played midfield in his first game and was involved in two doubleplays.
The game was worth of the "Game of the Week" telecast but when Tom Delaney was not elected Pope the networks decided to go in a different direction!
Additionally the Flames send best wishes to Warren Fuchs who suffered a meniscus injury last week and will miss extended time.
Congratulations are in order for Bob Johnson who has determined he will no longer play. We thank Bob for his many years in the league and hope that he is around often - particularly to make sure the Flames manager's write-ups are not too long.
In the First 4 Games of the Season The Wildcats Played their Third 1 Run Game. On a Sad note it was their second 1 run loss !!! Unlike the Wildcats the Flames played a solid defensive game !!! In the Third Inning, with the Youngster Bill Howland Pitching, there were a Couple of Misplayed Balls. At the time the Wildcats had a 2-0 Lead. The Flames tied the Game at 2 and had the Bases Loaded with 2 Outs when their Manager Tom Cosgrove came to Bat and Hit a Fly Ball down the Rightfield Line and the Wildcat Rightfielder had a Bead on the Ball and proceeded to over run the Ball and it Hit Him in the Chest and Dropped Him allowing all 3 Runners to Score to give the Flames a 5-2 Lead (not mentioning any names but if the Rightfielder would have caught the Ball He would have Fallen Down) lol
Papa John and The Youngter Bill Howland were both 3 for 3. Papa Scored Twice and Bill once. The Wildcats scored 2 in the 5th Inning but the Flames came back with 2 of their own then in the Top of the 6th. Papa Johnson led off with a Single followed by Bill Howland's Single then Kevin Oliver and Bill Jones hit Back to Back Triples to put 4 More runs on the Board and take an 8-7 lead. The Wildcats were held Scoreless in the 7th after the First 2 Batters had Hits but were both Forced out at 3rd Base on Groundballs !!!
And after 4 Games Tom Delaney finally has a Batting Average !!! And it’s not .000 anymore
Congratulations to the Flames on a Well Played Game!!! On a Good Note in the Bottom of the 7th when the Flames Scored their 2 Runs Jerry Gross fell when He lost His Footing about Two Feet from Home Plate 2 Years ago Tom Delaney would have been Spewing Quite a Few Vulgarities arguing that Jerry did a Head First Slide and should have been Called out but the New and Improved Tom Has become Quite the Gentleman. hahahahaha Just ask Him.
Blues Brothers 18 Devils 4
The Blues Brothers had their hitting shoes on and defeated the Devils 18 to 4. The Blues Brothers scored five runs in the first inning, the third inning, and the fifth inning. Ed Brandriff, Paul Stetsko, Ted Henritzy, and Tom Reither had three hits each and also scored three runs each. Joe Mursch also had three hits. Other members of the Blues Brothers who had two hits were Bill Kreiger, Jack Donohue, Franklin Smith, and Fred Eberhardt. Wayne Heaton who pitched all seven innings had one hit. Other team members who had one hit were Andy Cohen, Charlie Whitaker, and Butch Bodenheimer. Monroe Weingarten showed his versatility playing four different positions and making a fine catch on a deep fly ball to right field.
All I can say is that the Devils are in hell at this time….. Another loss, not enough hitting, leaving guys on base, and numerous errors. That being said, Dave Bushar and Derek Foster went 2-2 with Wayne Haller going 2-3 As long as everyone is having fun, we will continue our pursuit for win.
Game Reports For 5/13/2025
We were able to get the early games completed in a light rain but as the second games started the level of precipitation increased, the fields deteriorated and both games were called after 2 innings.
Wolfpack 7 Classics 6
The Wolfpack won another nail biter for their third victory. Again, this was a great team victory even with only 11 team players. Dave Noa pitched another strong game never giving in with tough situations. Mark Azzaro played a great game at 3rd, making excellent plays on hard grounders and closing out the Classics in the bottom of the 7th, starting a game ending double play. (3rd double play of the game for the Pack) Pete Williamson played fabulous defense and along with Ken Radon, led the Wolfpack attack with 3 hits each. Ken Radon was 3-3 even while nursing injured legs. Clutch hitting by Phil Angiolini, Mark Azzaro, Pascal Houcke and Brian Donocuff led to the 7-6 one run victory. Steve Belenko, Ron Mangini, Mark Azzaro, and Dave Noa each had 2 hits in the Wolfpack attack.
Both teams battled through playing in a light rain. The Wolfpack went ahead in the beginning innings and the Classics came back to tie the game in the late innings and go ahead in the bottom of the sixth with a score of six to five. The Wofpack scored three runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead eight to six. The Classics fell short by only scoring one run to lose eight to seven. Should I mention we ran ourselves into two double plays that game, I should!
Good hitting by George Groves, Jack McNulty, Frank Verano, Dave Simone and Norm Derry who had two hits each. Good fielding play by Dave Simone on a hot grounder to third and throwing a man going to second, Frank Verano made a good catch in RC on a sinking line drive and Jack McNulty had good fielding plays at shortstop and covered second on a close play from Eric Gottlieb (2nd base) to him.
Blues Brothers 5 Eagles 3
The Blues Brothers defeated the Eagles 5 to 3 in the 9:30 AM game beating any downpour of rain. The Blues Brothers scored 3 runs in the first inning on singles by Ed Brandriff and Ted Henritzy, followed by a 2 RBI double by Tom Riether. Joe Mursch drove in Tom with an RBI single for the third run.
The Blues Brothers scored 2 more in the bottom of the 4th when Ted Henritzy reached first on an error and Tom Reither hit a triple, scoring Ted. Joe Mursch then hit an RBI single to score Tom.
Wayne Heaton pitched all seven innings for the Blues Brothers. Monroe Weingarten had two hits today. Other team members with singles were Wayne Heaton and Bill Krieger.
The Eagles made it a close game scoring 2 runs in the top of the 4th inning and one run in the top of the sixth inning. Clete Mahoney hit two triples contributing to those runs.
The Eagles fell short losing to the blues brothers 5 to 3 in a well played game by both teams. The Blues Brothers struck early scoring 3 runs in the first inning and then both teams scored 2 runs in the fourth inning. The eagles added 1 in the sixth inning to make the score 5 to 3. The Eagles were led by Clete Mahoney who hit 2 triples and scored 2 runs. Frank Glauser, Tom Boyce and Gene Harris each had 2 hits. Frank Glauser played great defense at third base and Gene Harris played very well at middle infield. Gene Corrado made some nice catches at first base as the Eagles turned 3 double plays. A good Eagle effort butt wasn't enough and the Blues Brothers earned the win.
Wildcats 4 Devils 3
On a Rain Shortened Day only the Three Early Games were able to be COMPLETED !!!
On Field 5 in a very Good Defensive Game the Wildcat’s were able to hold the Boys from down under ( DEVILS) off in a 4-3 Win. The Wildcats took the Field in the Top of the 7th leading 4-0 but the DEVILS weren’t ready to call it Quits as they Scored 3 Runs to make the Final 4-3
The Wildcats Offense was Led by Papa John Pappadakis, Kevin Oliver and the Youngster Billy Howland all going 2 for 3 with a Run Scored. John Reich was 2 for 2 with 1 Run Scored !!! Fred Weiner was 2 for 3. Howard Wible and Steve Scheele were both 2 for 2 and last but not least Carl Weigand going 1 for 2 giving the Wildcats a Total of 13 Hits !!! Defensive Star of the Game was Aaron Sacharov with Numerous Saves at Firstbase, coming off the Base making catches and tagging the runners or getting back to the base before the runner. Aaron gets the Teams First ( ATTA BOY ) of the Season. The Devils Played a Great Defense and never gave up !! Our HAT’s Off to the Devils on a well played Game !!! Also with Carl Weigand getting His first hit of the season which leaves Tom Delaney as the only Wildcat still looking for His First Hit 😭
Well, I don’t have much to say about today’s game because the Devils were losing 4-0 going into the 7th inning when we finally put some hits together to score 3 runs. The Devil defense was effective but we still have issues putting hits together to score runs.
Better days have to come…..
Game Reports For 5/8/2025
Wolfpack 5 Eagles 4
Another nail biter for the Wolfpack as they clawed the Eagles 5-4. The outstanding feature of this game was every Wolfpack player contributed to victory. The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and held the Pack scoreless until the bottom of the 4th inning. In that inning Ron Mangini, Phil Angiolini, Mark Azzaro, Pete Williamson and Dave Noa all delivered clutch hits to score 5 runs and take the lead 5-2. In the field Ken Radon, Mark Azzaro and Pascal Houcke all made sparkling defensive plays to hold down the Eagles. The Eagles scored two additional runs to narrow the lead to 5-4 but in the top of the 7th inning the Wolfpack closed down the Eagles attack leaving the tying run on third base. Dave Noa pitched a gutsy game, never giving in, leading to the win. On the Wolfpack offense Joe Sothern, Ron Mangini, Phil Angiolini, Mark Azzaro, Pete Williamson, Dave Noa, Brian Donocuff, Pascal Houcke, each had 2 hits. Ken Radon continued his hot hitting with a single in the third inning. The Game was a true "TEAM" win for the Pack!
The Eagles and the Wolfpack played a very close and interesting game that went to the last out with the Eagles coming out on the short side 5 to 4 . The Eagles scored 2 in the first but the Wolfpack scored all their runs in the fourth inning to take a 5 to 2 lead. The Eagles scored 2 in the sixth inning and had the bases loaded with 2 out when the Eagles manager came to bat and grounded out to end the game. It was a close and interesting game but the Eagles just couldn't outscore the Wolfpack. The Eagles only had 9 hits and were led by Franco Folda and Rich Dempsey who each had 2 hits. Tom Boyle pitched very well giving up no walks and Frank Glauser played really good defense teaming up with Gene Harris at second base. Rich Dempsey had a very nice catch that saved a run from the Wolfpack.
Starr 13 Blue Jays 1
The Starr team jumped out to a 5 to 0 lead in the 1st inning and never looked back. Starr played a complete game offensively and defensively for a 12 to 1 final. Starr played error less ball with some great defensive plays. Offensively Larry Levin, Terry Klein, Terry Abrams and Spencer Synderman were perfect going 3 for 3. Jay Passman was a perfect 2 for 2. Chipping in with 2 hits were Ron Fein. Chipping in with 1 hit and 3 RBI’s was Keith Klasic, and John Rozolis. Another great game pitching by Bill Schwartz.
The Blue Jays were blue after Starr blew them away by a score of 13 to 1. The player of the game for the Jays was Del Kates who went 3 for 3 and managed to stop a hard hit ground ball with his groin. This may be hard to believe, but it pretty much went downhill from there. Steve Griffin went 2 for 3 and Jim O'Brien was 1 for 2. Those 6 hits were all the Jays were able to manage. Dick Tosti drove in Steve Griffin for the only Jay's run on a late inning fielder's choice. The game was not as close as the score indicates as the Jays scored all of their run in the 7th inning to bring the deficit to an even dozen. The Jays defense sputtered while Starr made all of the defensive plays and put the game out of reach early. An extremely well played game but only by Starr who deserved the win.
Blues Brothers 8 Wildcats 7
The Blues Brothers defeated the Wildcats 8 to 7 in the 11AM game on Field 4. The Blues Brothers led the game 4 to 2 after 2 innings, 6 to 4 after five innings and then the Wildcats took the lead after six innings, 7 to 6.
The Blues Brothers rallied in the bottom of the 7th inning, with Monroe Weingarten reaching base on an error. Joe Mursch then smashed a single to left field. A fielder's choice by Ed Bradriff advanced Monroe to 3rd base. Charlie Whittaker hit a fielder's choice RBI, scoring Monroe. Ted Henritzy reached base on an error by the shortstop, advancing Joe Mursch to third. Then the offensive hero of the game Tom Reither smashed a double over the right fielders' head to bring in the winning run.
Tom Reither, the offensive hero, was 4 for 4 with a double, a triple and multiple RBIs. Wayne Heaton recorded five strikeouts pitching.
Joe Mursch and Ed Brandriff had three hits for the Blues Brothers, Joe Mursch was batting last. He won't be batting last anymore. Charlie Whitaker, and Jack Donohue had two hits for the Blues Brothers.
In a back and forth Game the Blues Brothers with Ted Henritzy making His Managerial Debut came out on Top with an 8-7 Final Score. The Blues Brothers Played a Stellar DEFENSE to shut the Wildcats down. Tom Reither made some nice Plays at Shortstop to take sure hits away from the Wildcats and Pitcher Wayne Heaton may have had 5 Strikeouts!!!
The Wildcats Offense was led by Kevin Oliver going 3 for 3 with 2 Runs Scored followed by Pappa John and Fred Weiner both going 2 for 3 with each Guy Scoring 1 Run. John Reich was 2 for 3. Aaron Sacharov went 2 for 2. Howard Wible was 1 for 2. Bill Howland finally has a Batting Average going 1 for 3 with a Run Scored. Carl Weigand Scored the other Run but We don’t care because He got on with a Fielder's Choice!!! After 2 Games Carl Weigand and Tom Delaney are the only Wildcats without a Batting Average!!! So I may move Myself ahead of Carl in the Batting Order so I have a Chance of getting a Batting Average before Him LOL “OUR CONGRATULATIONS” go to the “Blues Brothers” on a Well Played Game !!! Way to go Guys !!!
Flames 9 Classics 7
The Flames bats were on fire in the top of the seventh inning with three runs in a closely fought 9-7 victory over the Classics. Kevin Culp pitched another strong game with no walks and two strikeouts. The offense was led by Bob Gaines (back from extended spring training in Florida) with four hits, two RBI's, two runs, and two doubles. Russ Dorrycott had three hits with two RBI's. Jack Galloway, Ron Cohen, Kevin Culp, and Tom Cosgrove all had two hits. Ron Cohen's hits contributed three RBI's. Craig Wright didn't have a hit but had productive at bats with the other two RBI's. Jim Stabene and Bill Russell had key walks and Lee Jaslow had a single in the top of the sixth inning turning the order over for the big bats to come through in the seventh inning.
A Classic first inning Norm Derry who is our starting pitcher could not find his car key and John Breig started the first inning. Norm did start the second inning and pitched a good game. The first inning the Flames jumped out with four runs and Classics came back with one run. The game was close in score and tied once but the Flames scored two runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead nine to seven. The bottom of the seventh the Classics could not come back and lost the game nine to seven.
Panthers 13 Devil 6
Thought provoking and prolific prognostication: “Kenny Reiss always says 2 things during the game, "there is still a lot of game left" and "you can never have enough runs"
.
The score was Panthers 13, Devils 6. The game was 13 to 1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Some how the baseball Gods gave some life to the Devils where they scored 5 runs on a multiple of strange and unforeseen happenings/errors after a strong defensive effort for the first 6 innings. We saw Bob Dougherty roam and catch 2 fly balls hit out there like Willie Mays. Mike Kroger another strong defensive effort along with Craig Niederpruem and Jim Klemick. The Panthers scored the 13 runs on 23 hits. Multiple hit players, Mike Kroger and Craig Niederpruem with 3, Ken Riess, Ed Occhi, Andy Markowitz, Bob Dougherty, Ron Tumiski, Big Jim Swiderski and Mike Segal with 2. Strong timely contributions ranged
from a 3-run homer by Mike Kroger in the 1 st to Rom Tuminski’s 3 rbi’s later along with Bob Dougherty and Doug Rutter having 2 rbi’s a piece, all from the bottom half of the line up. In between, Mike Kroger, Andy Markowitz, Bob Dougherty and Doug Rutter scored twice.
The Devils completed their second game and are still trying to manage our team as we have a few injuries. The Devils went down to the Panthers today by a score of 13-6. The Devils only scored one run until the 7th inning where they added 5.
The guys from down under still need to find their footing in the field and at the plate. Hopefully, we can get our injured players back as we only had 11 today with players playing positions they have never played before….
It's early yet……..
Derek Foster and Dave Bushar went 2-4, while Larry Restivo went 2-2 and Gene Reeber and Bim Bradford went 2-3.
Next week we will try something different.
Tom Delaney not elected as Pope!
There was a Delay in the Wildcat's Managers Writeup for this Game because the “DUMBASS” left the Scorebook on Top of His Car and Drove Off!!! But He did have enough sense to call and ask Fred to go back to the parking lot to see if He could find it!! It’s mainly Bill Russell’s fault because he asked me why I wasn’t on my way to the Vatican, I asked him why would I be on my way there and he said that white smoke came out of the chimney on the Sistine Chapel and that I was elected the “NEW POPE” I didn’t believe him so I was trying to hurry home to see if it was true. Of Course Bill was bullshitting me. Again! Just like whenever he tells me that I’m handsome. Thank God for all of us Catholics, Tom Delaney was not elected the pope !!!
I repeat I WAS NOT !!! That was a good one You pulled on me Bill if it was April 1st I would have known that You were KIDDING !!!
Game Reports For Opening Day 5/1/2025
Wolfpack 12 Blue Jays 11
The season started with a nail biter Wolfpack vs Blue Jays but with a complete team effort the Wolfpack won 12-11. Every team member recorded a hit and got on base when it was needed. The Blue Jays jumped on the Pack in the first inning with 5 runs with the Pack only responding with a lone run in the bottom of the first. In the 5th inning, Phil D'Angiolini led off with a double followed by a Home Run by Mark Azzaro. Ron Miller pitched a strong game for the Wolfpack as miscues in the field allowed the Blue Jays to get back in the game by the 7th inning. But with the score 12-11 in the top of the 7th, Wolfpack defense stiffened with Blue Jays on every base but could not push the tying run in, allowing the Pack to win 12-11.Leading the hitting attack for the Wolfpack was Ken Radon with 3 hits, Ron Mangini, Phil Angiolini, Joe Sothern, Brian Donocuff, Judy Agasar, Pascal Houcke, each with 2 hits and Steve Belenko, Dave Noa, Ron Miller, John Walsh , and Lou DePalma each with one hit......the game was tight down to the last out.
The Blue Jays fell prey to the Wolfpack by a score of 12 to 11. The Birds jumped out early with 5 runs in the first inning but then struggled defensively in the bottom of the second and third innings allowing the pack to jump ahead by a score of 9 to 5. In the 6th inning the birds struck for another 5 runs to leave them trailing by 1. The blue birds loaded the bases in the top of the 7th but were unable to plate the tying run.

Steve Griffith and Rich Pich both contributed 2 hits while Rich Dickson contributed with a single and 2 walks.
Starr 14 Eagles 13
Game started off with the Eagles scoring 1 run in the opening inning and Starr answering with 3 runs in the first to take a 3 to 1 lead. Starr added 5 more in the 2nd for a commanding 8 to 1 lead after 2 innings. The Eagles answered with 4 runs to close the gap to an 8 to 5 Starr lead. Starr added 3 more in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 11 to 5 lead going into the last inning. The Eagles produced 8 runs on some very poor defense by Starr and took a 13 to 11 lead. Starr put 2 runners on with 2 outs Terry Klein, Keith Klasic ,and Ron Fein all hit hard singles and Ron Fein drove in the 14th run for a 14 to. 13 win for Starr Restaurants. Stars for Starr were Terry Klein going 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI'S, and Ron Fein also going 4 for 4. Adding 3 hits were Larry Levin, Bill Schwartz, Keith Klassic. Chipping in with 2 hits were Harris Braunstein. Chopping in with one hit were John Rozolis, Alan Massey, and Jay Passman. Thanks to Derrick Foster for subbing in as Starr already has 5 players on the disabled list.
The Eagles played the defending champs Starr and quickly fell behind 8 to1 after 2 innings. The Eagles then scored 4 in the third inning but Starr came back scoring 3 in the fifth and led the Eagles 11 to 5 going into the seventh inning. The Eagles came alive and scored 8 runs going in the 7th. Starr proved to be tough as they scored 3 runs to pull out a14 to 13 win in a very exciting finish. The eagles were led by Clete Mahoney and Craig Kloss who both had 3 hits and played very well in the outfield the eagles had 5 players with 2 hits including Gene Corrado. Rich Dempsey, Gary Jones, Gene Harris and Bob Esterly. Rich Dempsey also made a nice catch on a fly ball while playing second base.
Panthers 10 Wildcats 5
A well-played game, Panthers 10, Wildcats 5. 18 hits contributed to the ten runs. 2 hits apiece for Dale Cassidy, Ken Reiss, Mike Kroger, Mike Aversa, Bob Dougherty and Craig Niederpruem. The rest had 1 hit a piece with doubles by Dale Cassidy and Mike Aversa, walks to Ron Tuminski and Jim Swiderski. We wanted to welcome back Andy to umpiring, who 40lbs lighter can still bring a Savior Faire to the game.
After Two Strong Pre-Season Performances where the Wildcats Scored a Total of 32 Runs they were held to 5 Runs by Good Defense and Clutch Hitting By the Panthers. The Wildcats played like “Tamed KITTENS” today !!! The Offense or Lack of it was led by Kevin Oliver and Bill Jones Both going 2 for 3, Scott Comer, Howard Wible and Mike Weidmann all going 1 for 2. Fred Weiner, John Reich and John McCann all going 1 for 3 !!! I don’t think Tom Delaney, Bill Howland, Carl Weigand or Steve Scheele “SHOWED UP” when it was their turn to Bat all going a Combined 0 for 10. The Wildcats may have had a chance if they Played like “FERAL CATS” but no such luck Our Congratulations go to the Panthers for a well Played Game and their “VICTORY” way to go GUYS !!!
Flames 12 Devils 5
The Flames had a "hell of a game' against the Devils in a 12-5 win. The Devils scored three runs in the top of the first inning putting the Flames on their heels but the Flames came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to close the gap. Kevin Culp pitched a strong, walkless game only giving up single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The Flames bats were blazing with hits up and down the batting order. Jim Stabene was a perfect three for three and was the pivot man on a double play in the top of the seventh inning. Jim endeared himself to his manager on the double play by scooping up a poor throw from the shortstop (also the manager), touching second, and throwing to first. Before Harvey called the batter out on the backend of the play, Jim turned to his manager and exclaimed "I saved your ass!". The manager thinks Jim was smiling. Kevin Grevera, Russ Dorrycott, and John Mack also each had three hits. Kevin Culp and Ron Cohen had two hits. Tom Cosgrove scored three runs and Lee Jaslow scored twice. Jack Galloway was on base twice with a hit and a walk. Craig Wright scored once and also had an RBI hit.
Well, we started off with 3 runs in the first but we were unable to capitalize on bases loaded as well. Ray Morris pitched a great game, while the Flames got timely hits down third base line.
The Devils have some injuries that forced them to modify their infield.
Gene Reeber went 3-3, while Dave Bushar, Ray Morris, and Wayne Haller all went 2-3. Derek Foster, Larry Restivo, and Frank Froio, all went 1-3. Wayne Haller has a bad shoulder and had difficulty throwing, Jeff Hooker came out of the game with a hip flexor and will be out for some time. Steve Weiss will be having surgery this month and I wish him well. 12-5 loss
We will bounce back with our new modified infield, we just need to put hits together.
Classics 11 Blues Brothers 10
Great game between the two teams the score was tied three times at 5-5, 7-7, and 10-10. The Classics were the home team in the bottom of the seventh with the score tied 10-10 when Eric Suber got on first base and George Groves drove a ball up the middle into the outfield to score Eric for the win 11-10. Great win for the Classics start.
Jack McNulty threw a runner trying to score from 3rd to home with Dave Frayne holding onto the ball at home plate. Also, George Groves made good fielding plays in the infield and Frank Verano made a good running catch in the outfield.
First game of the 2025 season, the Blues Brothers lost to the Classics 11-10 in an up and down, back and forth contest. Blues Brothers jumped out to a 5 run top of the first only to have the Classics score 4 in the bottom. After a few scoreless innings the bats started back up again. Each team scored 5 runs each over the next 2 innings. Making it 10-10 after 6 innings. The Classic came through in the bottom of the 7th to score the winning run. Blues Brothers were led by Paul Stetsko, Tom Riether, Andy Cohen, Wayne Heaton and Bill Kroeger all with 2 hits each and a large 2 RBI hit from Fred Eberhardt.
We will begin indoor workouts Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10AM to noon at the Northeast Racquet Club located at 9389 Krewstown Rd, Philadelphia PA 19115. The club is at the corner of Krewstown and Grant Avenues. Friday morning I attempted to put together a test run of the facility with players whose opinions I respected. They couldn't be there so instead I had to use Bill Krieger, Tom Delaney and Ron Mangini. The session went very well.
We will be playing in a roller hockey rink with a floor similar to that at PRAC. Sneakers or running shoes will be the appropriate footwear. The rink is 80 feet wide and 145 feet long. The lighting is very good.
There are a couple of things you need to know. In order to cover the cost of using the facility we will be collecting $10 per session per participant. The facility will need to have a waiver on file in case you are injured while playing. You can print a pdf of the waiver below or sign one at the front desk on your first visit. You also will need to check in at the front desk for each visit.
The facility accepts silver sneakers. If you have silver sneakers ,you can include your silver sneakers number on the waiver and get a free membership. The facility is huge!
Starr 8 Blue Jays 7 (8 Innings)
Tuesday's championship game was a thrilling end to an amazing season. Starr vs Blue Jays. Top of the first Starr tried very hard to give the game away making 3 errors allowing the Blue Jays 3 runs to take the lead. Starr came back in the bottom of the first to put up 3 runs aided by Ron Fein's booming triple with two aboard. The Blue Jay's added 4 in the top of the 4th again aided by poor play and errors by Starr to take a commanding 7 to 3 lead. In the bottom of the 4th and 5th Starr pushed across a run in each inning to cut the lead to 7 to 5. In the bottom of the 6th Starr pushed across 2 runs with 2 outs and nobody on base. Big hit of the inning was a line drive hit down the right field line by Jack Donahue knocking in 2 runs to tie the game. In the 7th inning neither team scored, so extra innings again for Starr. In the top of the eight with a man on 2nd Starr elected to give out 2 intentional walks, put the bases loaded and 1 out. The next batter shot a grounded to short who threw to 2nd for out number 2 and Alan threw the hardest ball this season to first for an inning ending double play and no runs scored. Bottom of the eight with runner on 2nd and the bottom of our order up the first batter lined out to Jim O'Brien for out #1. Intentionally walking Bill Schwartz and up stepped our hero in the last game against the Blue Jay's and he singles to load the base. Up steps Jay Passman the hero of one of our playoff games and singles to left for the game winning hit again. The bottom of our order was productive again in a total team effort by all 14 players. Almost all of our playoff games were decided by 1 run and extra inning games. Our last 2 games with the Blue Jay's were all decided by 1 run. in the last inning and we were always behind. There were no losers in this great game.
The Blue Jays and Starr both opened the game by scoring 3 runs in the first inning. The birds struck for 4 runs in the third inning to go up 7 to 3. Starr evened the score by scoring a run in the fourth inning, a run in the fifth inning and 2 more in the sixth inning. The Blue Jays were unable to capitalize on opportunities to score later in the game. Starr scored the game winning run with 2 out in the 8th inning to win the tournament championship. Congratulations Starr.
The Blue Jays offense was led by Jim Klemick with 4 hits, a double and 2 runs scored.
Bob Dolan had 3 hits while Scott Comer chipped in with 2 hits, 3 RBI's and a run scored. Del Kates had 2 hits and scored twice. Jack McNulty walked 3 times and scored once.
