2023 Tournament Day 6 results

Classics 7 Wildcats 6

The Classics and the surging Wildcats squared off in a closely contested playoff elimination game that was decided in the bottom half of the seventh inning, as the Classics pushed across two runs to walk off with a 7-6 victory.

The Cats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead  in the top of the first and the Classics responded with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, to tighten up the game. The two teams then settled down and traded two runs each  through the next 5 innings, as stellar pitching and defense became the order of the day. 

Down 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh, hitting star John Salmon singled for his third hit of the day to start the Classics game winning rally. Jack Galloway followed with a clutch single, placing runners at first and second with one out. Bill Krieger delivered the equalizer with a well timed single, advancing runners to second and third. Jimmy Hart punched home the game winning run with a sacrifice fly RBI to right field, scoring Eric Gottlieb, who was running for Jack Galloway.

The Wildcat pitching and defense limited the Classics batting order to three at bats per man, but the team managed to scratch out 15 hits. As previously noted, John Salmon went 3 for 3 with two runs scored, adding a defensive gem of a foul ball put out behind the plate, which earned the "ESPN jingle" from Umpire Andy. Bill Kreiger also went 3 for 3 to fuel the Classics' offensive attack. 

A pivotal play halfway through the game occurred when, with a Wildcat on 1st with no outs, Tony  Baccari made a running backhand catch of a sinking line drive and while still in motion fired a bullet to 1st to double up the runner.

The Classics send their Congratulations to the Wildcats who played valiantly during their playoff run and proved to be a tough out. Well done Wildcats!

The Wildcats scored 4 runs in the first and 2 more in the last 6 innings to lose 7-6 to the Classics in a semi-final playoff today. The classics scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to squeek out their  A well played game by both teams was lost by some misplayed balls to the outfield today and gave the win to Eric's men with 2 runs in the 7th.B ig hitter for the Wildcats was Dale Cassady with 3 hits while Ed Schmidt and Doug Rutter had 2 each to complete the threats.
