Results of Tuesday 5/7 games

Wildcats 7 Classics 5

The Wildcats and the Classics played a good game today with the Wildcats earning a win by virtue of a 5 run rally in the third inning . It was a well played game by both teams with good performance from both teams. For the Wildcats both George Groves and steady Larry Restivo provided the impetus with 3 hits each.  Two hits from Monroe Weingarten, Charlie Whittaker, Franco Folda and Bob Silvester kept up the pressure and good defense from both teams secured the first win for the Wildcats . Good pitching from both teams kept the scoring low as there were few walks or errors in the game.

The team is starting to gel together with better defense and the start of team hitting with 16 hits. But the Classics did not bunch their hits together to score more runs.  Leading the hitting was Tony Baccari with 3 hits followed by Ken Mealey, Paul Stetsko, Andy Markowitz and Eric Gottlieb with 2 hits each. The Wildcats had a big 3rd inning scoring 5 runs for a final score of 7-5 Wildcats win.

Blue Jays 13 Starr 4

The Blue Jays, Cheap Walmart Calendar Bird of the Month for May, won their second consecutive game defeating Starr by a score of 13 to 4.  The game was close until the angry birds put up 5 runs in both the third and fourth innings to break the game open.  Del Kates (2 for 2, 2 walks, 2 runs scored), Jim Swiderski (2 for 2, walk, double, 2 RBI's) and Jeff Blank (2 for 2, walk, run and RBI) all had a perfect day at the plate.  Scott Comer had 3 hits and made a good defensive play, catching a fly ball on the run, and then topping it off with a little Carlization.

Jim Klemick chipped in with 2 hits.  Jack McNulty had 2 hits, double, 2 RBI's.  Bob Dolan added 2 hits and 2 RBI's.  Ed Schmidt also chipped in with 2 hits.  Overall defense was solid with Jack McNulty turning in an excellent performance at shortstop.

The Blue Jays blasted the previously undefeated Starr Restaurants 13 to 4. Starr took a 1 to 0 lead in the top of the first, and the Blue Jays  tied the score and then went on an offensive onslaught to bury Starr 13 to 4. Poor fielding aided a very potent offense by the Blue Jays. During the game, Del Kates was walked twice to get to their 3rd batter, Jack Mcnulty, which did work out once but not twice. How is that for confidence?  Offensive stars for Starr were Terry Kline going 3 for 3 and Jay Passman also 3 for 3. Two hits by Larry Levin, Jack Donohue and Spencer Snyderman. The only thing that bothered their manager was the ump coming over our bench and saying "your team is a bunch of old farts and should think about hanging them up"

Panthers 10 Flames 3

The Panthers notched their first victory of the season by defeating the Flames by a score of 10-3.  The Flames drew first blood, scoring 3 runs in the first inning but the Panthers responded by scoring 2 in the bottom of the first.  The Panthers went ahead 5-3 putting up 3 more runs in the bottom of the third and clinching the win with a 5 run sixth inning.  The Panther defense was outstanding against a very good hitting Flames team.  John Rozzalis, Howard Wible and Gary Jones made multiple great catches to snuff the Flames offensive attack.  The Panthers put up 13 hits in the game.  John Rozzalis went 2-2 with a double.  Darryl Puzan posted a triple and Mike Segal went 2-3 with a double.  Ed Occhi and Ed Betancourt both went 2-3.

The Flames were on fire early with three runs in the top of the first highlighted by a Kevin Grevera triple but were doused by the Panthers after that in a 10-3 loss.  Derek Foster, Kevin Grevera, and Carl Weigand each had two hits with one of Carl's being a double.  The Panthers played cat-like defense with John Rozolis making two ESPN highlight plays (sound provided by Andy) and others making good plays on hard hit balls.  It was a close game until the Panthers opened it up with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.  The Flames have a buy on Thursday with our next game Tuesday May 14.

Eagles 11  Wolfpack 5

The Eagles started out a little slow and fell behind the Wolfpack 4-2 after two innings.  The Eagles then managed to outscore our opposition 9-2 and ended up on top with an 11-6 win against a gritty Wolfpack Team.

The Eagles were led by Mike Kroger who had three hits including a bases loaded triple, a double and a single along with some good catches at middle infield.  Ed Brandriff also had three hits including a double along with Bill Howland who also had three hits.  Dale Cassidy played a great game at shortstop and contributed two hits along with Ted Henritzy and Andy Cohen.  Pascal Houck, Judy Agasar and Doug Rutter each had one hit a piece.

The Wolfpack came out pouncing, scoring 4 runs in the first  two innings against the Eagles. The Eagles responded by tying the game in the 3rd inning. The game was hard fought by both sides until the bottom of the 6th when key hits scored 5 runs giving the Eagles an 11-5 lead. The 'Pack" gave everything they had but could not cage the Eagles. Wolfpack offense was lead by Bob Gaines with 3 hits including a clutch triple as well as Dick Tosti and Jim Stabene who also had 3 hits each.  Tracey Zimmer and hot hitting Pat O'Mara each had 2 hits. Great fielding plays were made by Curtis Bragg who turned an "ESPN" double play at midfield.
